Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

The anime will be epic

A lot of what Inafune was doing by that time is to pitch ideas to devs/studios and publishers.
Suposedly, his company was a factory of ideas.

Which is why you could see him involved with various games during that timeframe.
ReCore for MS, Soul Sacrifice Delta for Sony, the many MM inspired games, etc.

Yeah, I know. Before Mighty No. 9 like most, I was a huge fan of him because of Mega Man. Borderline drinking the kool-aid and sometimes passing it out depending on the day.

After that though…not so much. lol. Now he can eat shit.

I’m just glad Inti Creates was able to get out of that whole mess unscathed. They’re a phenomenal dev team. The Gunvolt series is fantastic.

I see.
I am sure that there was already a countermovement for the cyberpunk, which is part of what Star Trek supposedly is part of.
Maybe it was never named?

So, by your description i assume that all of those elements, afrofuturism, social porgressiveness and enviromentalist thems are married to the genere, or are just elements that can be present but not necesarily part of it?

Also, i need to dig more on this afrofuturism thing, sounds like it can be amusing both in good and bad ways.

Now i am wondering if there is a version but with latinidad / hispanidad.
It could be interesting as whel, considering that there is strong sense of shared culture among the many countries that share that in common, lol.

The whole MN9 fiasco surely soured the image that the gaming community had about him.
And while i dont blame anyone and share a lot of the opinions.
I also think that most of the problems stemed that they were not really prepared for the mkany problems and obstacles they will had with a crowdfunded game.

For starters, the amount of money they raised want what they expected, since there were a lot of fees that were not aware of.
They overspread themselves over multiple consoles trying to commit to what they promised for the streching goals.
Wasted time on the MP component, which was detrimental for the game.
And so many other issues.

It is kind of sad, because i am sure he was really trying to put a game that could continue the legacy of MM, but it was not meant to be

TBH, I would still like to see him have a story of redemption.
A success.

He created so many things i like, and while he was partly to blame for the hiccups that capcom had during the ps3/xbox360 era, i think it was a reasonable posture to have seeing how most of the japanese companies struggled during the era, while western game devs flourished.

Not sure if anyone does figure collecting but there are some high quality (pretty sure unofficial) Tifa statues up for pre-order right now. All about 1/4 scale and super expensive. This one from Mayflies Studios seemed to be mostly sold out:

Another from a company called Pink Studios:

Lastly the one I think is the best from Neoclassicism x O2 Studio:

The clothes come off the bottom two if you want to go look that up.

Yeah. I know all about too. And while I kinda sorta agree with the hopes he gets some kind of Shōnen-esque redemption arc I don’t see it happening anytime soon and it’s going to take a lot of work for any fan of his casual or otherwise to believe in him or his work again.

IIRC, he is working with some company behind scenes, so maybe he i trying to stay low key while working on games.

I need to check if he has done anything since that news, that by now are kind of old.

There are many counter-movements to cyberpunk’s nihilism, even within cyberpunk itself (post-cyberpunk). What solarpunk brings to the table is a bigger focus on environmentalism with an emphasis on sustainable resources, craftsmanship over corporations.

As for afrofuturism, the easiest jumping point is Black Panther, both the movie, and recent comics. Then, there are the works of Samuel R. Delaney, Octavia Butler, and Steven Barnes - the so-called “big three” writers of afrofuturism.

Wait 'till you see what happens with him in one of the story arcs in Star Trek Online

There also the lack vision for Mighty No9.
They tried to do both their own mechanics but also be a megaman clone, and in the mix they didnt do ether really well.

I have Recore. It’s a mediocre third person shooter. I don’t like the reliance of lock on to shoot targets and needing to collect x amount of cores to proceed. If you can get it on sale it’s fun on short bursts.

Cha-riggered that a dude who buys CoD every single year is calling Battlefield “just another shooter.”

You need to play more FPS games. Battlefield has way more going on than you might think at first glance.

There was this squad of snipers picking people off in this one building when I was playing Bad Company 2 onrine. I laced the ground floor of the building with like 4-5 mines, I made some space then I let those mines rip. The entire building crumbled and I took like 5 campers out in one go. CoD and a majority of onrine FPS games don’t have environmental destructibility like that. You have a favorite camping spot? Fam, I will level your favorite camping spot.

Bad Company 2 was tight. It would be cool if they remastered that game with a higher player count. Consoles were limited to something like 12v12, and the maps just felt empty most of the time, whereas PC was traditional 32v32 carnage

Cool to see this game getting a port

More Vampire stuff on the way… unfortunately for me it’s more in the “visual novel” category though (interview on the front-end; I time-stamped when she started talking about other stuff)

sheeeitttt, give me more 3rd person action/adventure like Vampyr, or even an isometric Diablo-style action-rpg and I’d be all over it day 1.

Now that you say the name I do remember playing bad company 2. I only played the single player on that. The sound in BF games is amazing.

I remember Record, aside from robots and shooting things it ain’t much of a Mega Man game. Closer to a poor man’s Metroid Prime although I know they patched/updated it after launch to add more content.

Long story short unless on sale for under $10 (maybe $15 if you ball like that) or part of Xbox Game Pass don’t bother.

Jedi Fallen Order just got a huge fucking update

Meditation Training

Meditation Training is the biggest part of this update and is a new game mode hub that can be accessed from the Meditation points found throughout the game (further details on that below). In it, you’ll be able to face off against all enemies, including bosses, in two different modes: Combat Challenges and the Battle Grid.

Combat Challenges will pit Cal against waves of enemies across multiple planetary backdrops from across the galaxy, including the Imperial stronghold Fortress Inquisitorius. Each unique location will feature its own unique challenges, too, allowing for tailor-made experiences that draw from each environment. Different challenges will have different numbers of waves and each will have a three-star completion rating.

What makes these challenges especially unique is that they’ve all been designed for veteran players. They’re designed to be tackled when Cal is at his strongest and most experienced towards the end of the game, so be wary if you decide to take on challenges early in a playthrough. The abilities Cal knows at the time of entering his meditation will be the ones you take into a challenge.

There are 12 challenges in total and each challenge has three stars. Unlocking twelve stars in total, regardless of how many you get per challenge, will give you three new BD-1 appearances.

  • Star 1: Complete the challenge
  • Star 2: Complete the challenge without healing
  • Star 3: Complete the challenge without taking damage

If you consider yourself a master of the Jedi ways, try getting all three stars! However, if you’re looking for a wholly unique challenge, this next mode is for you.

The second mode in Meditation Training is called the Battle Grid. This mode is a sandbox for players to create their own encounters. In it, players will be able to select a location, the size of the encounter they want to face, tinker with various difficulty modifiers, and set the overall combat difficulty to one of the four difficulty levels.

There’s a lot of room for creativity within this mode and you’ll also be able to save your grid creations to play later. As an added bonus, this mode will also feature unique enemies Cal saw during the dark visions of his past and future: his fallen Master Jaro Tapal as well as the dark side version of himself, Inquisitor Cal Kestis!

We can’t wait to see the encounters you create and hope you’ll share screenshots and video clips of your punishing creations for the community to replicate!

New Journey+

A common request we got was for a way to replay the game while carrying some things over. The core experience of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order revolves around Cal’s growth and learning (and relearning) his abilities as he restores his connection to the Force and overcomes his traumas. For this mode, we think we’ve found a good balance between what to carry over while still allowing Cal to discover abilities on his journey.

With this update also comes the New Journey+ mode. This new feature gives those of you who’ve beaten the game a menu option to start from the beginning, gaining access to Meditation Training game modes (exclusively available in New Journey+). You’ll also keep all of their collectibles from a previous playthrough while abilities will have to be relearned. This includes lightsaber parts, kyber crystal colors, and other aesthetic items. And yes, that means you get to keep every poncho. Any chests you’ve opened in your previous playthrough will stay empty, meaning you won’t need to check every chest or open empty ones by accident. Any chests you haven’t opened, though, will remain in place for you and your best droid buddy to find.

As an added bonus, NJ+ will unlock an additional appearance for Cal: the Inquisitor uniform, as seen during a vision he has during the story. Naturally, you’ll need a lightsaber to match, so we’re also adding the iconic red kyber crystal along with two new lightsaber sets: Protection and Defense I & II. What’s especially exciting about these new hilts is that we’ve once again worked with our friends at Lucasfilm and Disney to make sure they match the ones you’d find in Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort!

All of these are exclusive to New Journey+ and cannot be used during a fresh playthrough of the game.

Accessibility Improvements

Accessibility is something we really care about. After the launch of the game, we got some great feedback on how we could make the game even more accessible. At the core of every Respawn game, we want them to feel good to play, and we want them to feel good for every kind of gamer. To better meet that goal, we’ve added some additional accessibility options that we hope can help more players enjoy Cal’s story.

  • Option for button-mashing quick-time events to be skipped
  • Needing to hold the Climb button can now be disabled
  • Holding a button to confirm/interact with something can be changed to a button press
  • Text size scaling options have been added
