From my experience of playing so far…that’s pretty much the only thing you can do to mitigate damage. It’s going to be a bit difficult to control the other characters since they’re mostly doing their own thing while you’re controlling one of them. The only other thing I can think of is maximizing your set up for each encounter. Damage is just something you have to keep an eye on at all times. Most of the time when I had troubles in a fight or something bodied the fuck out of me I switched to a long range character like barret that I put healing materia on that allows me to more control the pace of the battle and focus on targets from afar. The game has a tendency to mostly focus on the character you are controlling from what I’ve noticed so choosing a long range character with healing gave me the opportunity to draw aggro off of the other 2 while surveying the fight better. Dunno if this helps.
Provoke tank Barrett. Add barrier, regen(with magnify), his unique defense up ability and the life taker ability. Don’t forget hp up’s and high defense equips.
Laugh as he becomes a literal unkillable tank and the other members take like no damage.
Does the roll have iFrames at all?
I don’t think I’ve gotten the Parry Materia yet, but I’ll check. I’ve been doing all the side stuff as it comes along. I do think I get pretty greedy with Tifa and Cloud tho so maybe I can just cut back a little bit and find myself with more health.
I did try doing a sort of “Support Barrett” setup, but he’s been in and out of the party throughout the story so it hasn’t been terribly helpful.
I’ll try to take all this stuff into consideration tho. Thanks folks.
Regen heal based on max HP. Hilarity ensues when he’s pushing 10k hp.
Cloud can somewhat act as tank depending on which sword you use when you don’t have Barrett.
From what I’ve experience, I don’t think there are any invincible frames on the roll. If there are it’s a very small amount in the beginning but I don’t really believe it’s there. I’ve gotten smacked plenty of times in the process of trying to avoid stuff. You can still roll out of danger especially when it comes to long range spells if you time it right but just don’t expect it to be the answer to everything. There are going to be attacks like the Sahagin (sp? It’s the ninja turtle with the spear that can turn you into a frog) jump move that are completely unavoidable and the only thing you can do is block to try to mitigate.
There are no iframes at all. Use the dodge to avoid moves with bad or no tracking or AoEs that give you time to move away basically.
Blocking damaging status spells(like the Harpoon) actually prevents the status as well. Status spells that don’t have an actual hitbox on the other hand(like the frog curse) have to be avoided physically. Just to make it clear
A buddy of mine texted me today saying that Trials of Mana is one of the most butt ugly PS4 games he’s ever seen.
I disagreed and added that MK11 was the ugliest major releases last year and he responded with “ I don’t like mortal Kombat but those are objectively impressive graphics I’d say lol”
Thoughts? Is he wack, or am I wack? Are we both wack?
I think Trials could look a lot better in the details level on textures and such. I would even say it doesn’t even look as good as the original game artistically.
But MK11 is definitely fucking ugly as fuck IMO even if the graphical fidelity is objectively high(which is maybe what he means?)
Graphics in MK11 are great as is the lighting. They are clearly going for an artistic style.
It’s the animation that is just fucking awful, as is the sound. The animations being so shitty is just something that I can’t get passed.
Do they have an Iwata and Miyamoto ‘it prints money!’ gif for the switch yet? Cause there should be at this point. Other things of note other than Animal Crossing running amok for the month are MLB 20 charting for the month and CoD: MW seemingly getting a second wind. Pretty sure that’s due to the battle royale

MK 11 is a lot of things but I wouldn’t call it ugly. I think the lighting, texture work and modeling for that game work really well what they want the game to be. The only thing I’d say is objectively bad about MK11 are some of the janky animations.
Trials of Mana looks fine to me.
Not every game needs to be cutting edge graphics or cutting edge in xyz department.
I get not liking artistic choices for games, though. I find a lot of Bethesda’s games ugly as sin cause their worlds are so blandly colored or what colors there are look as washed out as a Snyder Film. Same with most call of duty games.
I’m excited as shit for the trials of mana remake though. I’m having it shipped to my work on Friday. Even saved almost $15 on it thanks to price matching.
I think that’s what he’s saying. and I agree, it’s got all the textures and lighting and shit, but I can’t for the love of god tell what the hell is going on. The characters melt into the background.
I don’t see how MK11 is ugly. Like in what world is it ugly besides it’s animations?
Trials of mana is ugly. Models and environment don’t match up at all. Looks painfully low budget.
In all fairness I thought about it and Jump force is definitely uglier.
I think that’s where the disconnect between me and my homie is. I care about the art, color, and if it services the gameplay better. He wants fidelity, lighting, and textures
It’s too dark and the color pallet is limited. Characters fade into the backgrounds (which are busy as fuck, but not visually interesting) and the characters are lame.
From a technical standpoint, I think it’s impressive, but as something to look at, it doesn’t do anything for me
There’s a lot of indie games I can’t play cause the artistic choices are just so fucking off putting to me. Games like Axiom Verge immediately come to mind. It looks like pixelated vomit to me.
Games that gave that “hi-def pixelation” art style in general are insanely off putting to me.
I don’t care how good the game is if I can’t stand even looking at it I’m not going to bother playing it
It’s not just about cutting edge for Trials though. Even the texture work is kind of dull, especially for backgrounds.
