Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

Yea, Tifa’s trigger is earlier in Sector 7. I missed it.

I think I’m right before the last battle. FFVIIR seems like the game everyone told me about in 1997. This game is great. Two my biggest issues with the original are resolved for me. I hated the Materia system in the original game. It sapped, from a gameplay standpoint, a lot the character individuality. In the Remake your characters have more defined traits and customization to go along with it. One of the primary relationships in the game that I didn’t buy, I do in this game. I should be able to finish up tomorrow but I’m actually looking forward to doing some post game grinding. Also…SPOILERS

Summary

What is with all this “time travel” nonsense? It’s showing “potential” outcomes if they can’t over come fate. Also it’s clear that the Whispers are their to try and prevent you from changing hard points from the original game. I find it to be subtle way of Square to tell the players, things may not go down exactly as they did in original game.

100% agreed on the spoiler

Summary

It seems so obvious to be simply visions of the future of the first game. I feel like people were looking for things to hate instead of just seeing it as it is. I mean, sure, maybe it’ll still end up being ridiculous like that at some point but at the moment there isn’t any indication of anything like time travel.

It’s crazy to me that I’m actually defending FFVII albeit the Remake. I mean after two decades plus it just didn’t seem possible to me. It’s like hitting it off with a chick from high school ten years later that you absolutely despised.

Hahaha. I was more neutral but even then I get what you mean. This is one of the best JRPGs in a while. And one of the best action RPGs

I think this game is one of the best meldings of Action and JRPG I’ve ever played. So much so it took me a while to get used to unavoidable damage and that defending is a great skill instead of dodging. The ATB bars are so important to combat, so much so it got me to slow down and wait out moments and the like. It really does feel like an action version of Final Fantasy 7s turn based combat system.

With an RPG, my metrics for what’s good are different than most games. Characters, Story, and then game play. The original game had the trifecta, in a bad way because I didn’t like any of three metrics. Where as the with the Remake I like all three.

@Radiantsilvergun3 Honestly it seems like the combat they were trying to pull off in FFXIII in many ways but actually good instead of trash. I know I need to go through it again to get better at it. One of the later bosses was slapping me around. The second try I had figured out what to do and it was pretty easy. It really rewards you for playing well.

Right, it was hard for me to get used to that cuz it was fairly easy, I could spam physical attacks. But once the difficulty ramped up, THAT is where the RPG part really stands out and you realize you can’t play it like a typical action game.

It really is a damn near perfect blend of action and RPG mechanics. You can’t simply get by with godlike reflexes, you HAVE to use the RPG tactics to win in conjuction with the action side

What really drives it is the stagger system. Hitting enemies with their elemental weakness does a shit ton of stagger. So does using specific abilities. If you’re not using those, you’re not getting far.

Just beat Fat Chocobo too, forgot to mention that earlier, wasn’t too difficult. Definitely easier than the previous optional boss. Gonna finish the Wall Market tournament when I get off in the morning. I’ve clocked around 11 hours so far, I kinda feel like I’m moving too fast. I wanna savor this game

Are you doing side quests? I was at about 15 hours in when I was in Wall Market.

I’ve probably only missed one side quest way back in an earlier chapter, I’ve done all of them besides that one I think. Scratch that 11 hours, more like 13-ish. Just remembered I was around the 10-ish mark while a certain boss was handing me my ass

I can’t believe how beautiful Ori Will of the Wisps is. I mean the original was amazing but this is on another level and I’m only in the first world of the game. Unreal art style to the game.

Sound about right. I’m at 20 hours, near what can be considered the “halfway point” based on chapter count.

FF7R late game boss spoilers

Yo this fuckin wack-a-mole boss is some nonsense lmao.

Dude FF7RE and Dragon’s Dogma are the only action RPGs that have ever made mages fun. Aerith is actually really cool to use with all her wards and familiars and a fucking flower shield. That thing came in SO handy for ranged bosses.

And landing the sweet double cast for over 7000 damage total is so satisfying.

Tips for rufus? 3 attempts now and I can’t do shit. He just tandem locks you down with the dog. I dunno what to do honestly. Try to Punished counter and he just counters me.

I’m never mind think I figured it out.

Use the counter from the new sword instead. Use the Parry Material to dodge right before Rufus comes in to attack. Generally he has predictable patterns when you attack the dog cause he almost always goes to assist, so hit him a few times then “parry,” not the counter.

For Rufus himself use the new Ability counter from the new sword you should have picked up. That counter works against many more attacks, it just takes ATB.

Edit: I’ll be honest though I didn’t beat him cleanly at all. I definitely didn’t figure out a good strat for him

So a friend of mine glitched out one of the bosses and may have found a sequence break in FF7R chapter 10.
