Ok so I don’t usually post again for contributions to VGM Friday but allow me to be a bit selfish here…
I had forgotten Gametal put this up yesterday and I just listened to this 20 min ago (have listened to it 3 times so far by the time of posting this). Vocal covers are always sketchy especially when people are trying to come behind people like Lyn who have that soul in their voice so I was a bit worried…but then I saw the singer…and then she opened her mouth. Gotta say…I was waaaaay surprised by this cause she fucking killed it. Give it a listen and hopefully you’ll hear what I heard.
I’ve been seeing the the sticks placement argument flare up again, when really it’s just an argument over people being used to which console controller they normally spend the most time with. Some people who moved to PS4 from the 360 are still stuck on the latter’s controller and won’t let go.
Like yeah the left stick is used for player movement, but the right stick is used for camera navigation for almost as much time. So saying the Xbox layout is better is ridiculous since the offset approach is flawed.
Symmetrical is better but if nobody likes Sony’s approach, then the winning argument should be both analog sticks being at the top of the controller. The Wii U pro controller layout would be the best option since it keeps its symmetry but puts both sticks at the top, or else the DS(4) controllers come in 2nd place on the subject.
TL;DR
This stick placement is better
Or this one is better
Anything else is a flawed compromise.

While it’s a nice thought, it doesn’t apply to old fucks like me that started with the old VCS single button joystick and literally used every standard console controller since. I didn’t like the Dual Shock/Dual Sense layout before there was even an Xbox brand. As someone that has owned every major console of the past two plus (shit…it’s actually three now) decades, switching controllers has never been an issue for me and in spite of all that. I find the Dual Shock layout to be just plain bad. Off the top my head the only controllers I’d take the DS setup over is the terrible Dreamcast controller, Xbox Controller Type-S (Smalls as fuck with two of the primary button the right grip…dafuq Microsoft) and the WTF was Atari thinking Jaguar controller.
TLDR: I used damn never every controller ever made and I find the Dual Shock/Sense layout to be trash.

Hey, I’m an old fuck too! I started with the Atari 2600 joystick and have owned many of the consoles since. The exception being XBox- I’ve never owned one, but I’ve had roommates with them and have definitely played them.
Honestly, I don’t think the DS4 or the Xbox controller is better than the other, as far as button layout is concerned. I can comfortably play on either one.
My favorite all-time controller is the SNES pad tho.
It’s just easy mode plus auto attack so you essentially only wait for the ATB gauge.
Normal difficulty is definitely the way to play

Besides the really old controllers like the Atari ones and the blocky NES ones, I also used a lot of them.
The Dualshock-style design is just by far the most comfortable for me.

I started gaming since the Sega Genesis so I’m not that young either, but I’ve been primarily a PlayStation gamer since the PS1 (GameCube and Wii notwithstanding). I don’t have a problem using the Xbox 360/One controllers either, but I just prefer PS games. The only problem I’ve had with the Dualshocks was the shape of the triggers and analog stick grips, that was fixed with the DS4 so I’m good.
But hey, whatever works for you. I don’t have a problem with the stick placement of either controller, but I don’t see how the Xbox controller wins that particular argument from a logical standpoint. Aside from that everything else is subjective and everybody has their preference for whatever number of reasons they come up with.
Playing Fortnite on Switch and PS4 made me realize I like Switch layout more. , which is asymmetrical, no? The PS4 controller hurt my thumbs after awhile Could just be the Dual Shock.
Wii U Pro controller being symmetrical but having both sticks at top is the right choice overall.

FFVII Remake demo is awesome, but I’m waiting for all the games to be released before I spend money on it.

Can’t really say I’ve ever cared about the sticks on my controller being one way or the other.
My biggest concern is always the Dpad and triggers. The stick layouts, as far as I’m concerned, are interchangeable. I like both the Xbox and DS4 layouts.
do we even know how many episodes we’re going to get with FF7R? because if we don’t that’s a sign it might take too long before we get the full game

I love that Xbox die Hard’s get mad at m$ for cozying up to Nintendo so much.
I wanna see the salt flow for this so bad.
M$ being tight with Ninty is good for business. Cross platform play, more collabs like Banjo Kazooie in Smash, plus M$ can give Ninty pointers on how to bring Switch Online up to par with Live. Everybody wins
