Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

No way will any modern JRPG have a full overworld. It’s not realistic. Even the Witcher 3’s overworld isn’t big enough to be FF7s. It’s just not feasible. It might have a very truncated map but I could see them scrapping it entirely.

You know in retrospect it is pretty impressive how big some of the older PS1 era games were considering the tech limitations of the time.

I think I went too hard on the games as I finished the story for Yakuza 5. Now I get to start Yakuza 6 back and finish it in 3 days time, lol, but not before I fill out the survey for Yak 5. I honestly thought it was going to be longer form the things I heard about it.

I feel like Zero and Kiwami were a lot longer but who knows… ? I know I’m still finding things in Zero’s Premium Adventure that would’ve made that game a whole lot easier and fast. That’s what Legendary runs are for, I’m guessing :men_wrestling:

I’ll be more than ready when Yakuza 7 drops. Especially if it gets delayed due to COVID-19. Hopefully we get the samurai and PSP games as well.

Carmack he is a pretty humble guy considering how much stuff he pioneered. I saw some interview where he just talked about how he came up with raytracing as a way to cheat limitations because computers at the time could not render 3d.

Yea he’s fun to listen to. The way he casually talks about amazing ideas is funny and humble.

The technical limitations actual were benefit in that regard. The main issue with larger modern games is just that to make a game with the same type of over world as older was would be really time consuming. The higher quality textures, more detailed models, etc. take a lot of time.

DOOM 2016 man, goddamn… this takes me right back to that same feeling I had in the old days with the original game… it was love at first sight. I still remember that fateful day when I played the original on a friend’s pc back then; like Beavis & Butthead might say…I was sitting there like “whoah…this is the coolest thing… I have ever seen.”

I hate not clipping this one moment just a while ago where I had the “Berserk” powerup. A Summoner showed up only to get immediately ripped apart by my bare hands. hahahaaaaa that bitch didn’t even get a chance to do anything! This is delicious.

Got this board today and just got around to putting it in the cabinet. Game is so basic but it’s a lot of fun. Love the trash that the bad guys talk in this game. It’s so 80s/90s.

Most of the fps engines in the market have code based on Carmacks work.
I think that it was he was talking about.

Got the hankering to play Metal Gear Rising tonight. I forgot how satisfying dismembering your foes was.

Got two hours to kill:

SMH!!
WHY ARE THERE RE LIVE ACTION PLAYS

…AND WHY ARE THEY CANON!!

Took a nap and left it on the save screen, and apparently that counts towards your time lol. So it’s closer to 5 or 6 hours.

I’ll talk about it more tommorow. Overall, I liked it a lot, but it’s not quite as fleshed out as 2.

I swear, beenox doesn’t want anyone buying the mtx for ctrnf.
They duplicated the amount of time for the daily bonus from 30 mins to 1 hour.

So now you can make around 70k per week.
Just by playing the game.

When you’re under quarantine/stay-at-home orders so you’re forced to play your backlog of games you kept telling yourself you’d get to but deep down knew you never would to pass the time.

Fuck you covid-19 for actually making me get my monies worth out of games I paid for. That said, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is very fun.

My one overall complaint so far is lack of hit collision/detection. It makes it hard to tell if you’re actually hitting anything or taking damage. There’s just big numbers in big fonts flying all over the place and you just have to take the games word for it that you’re doing damage or taking damage. Yes, there are life gauges for characters but that honestly doesn’t really do much since enemies have such large health and your hits seem to do very little

Bolded: I agree 100% with. The older I get, the less I understand the reverence for FFVII. At least at release I could contribute a lot of the adoration because a lot of its audience hadn’t played many if any JRPGs before.

Italics: Yeah I am actually interested is FFVII: R because its not really a remake but a retelling. Personally, I hope what ever updates they make to the story make appeal to me. I also hope that whatever changes they make don’t turn off original fans. While I personally want to enjoy the game, I hope that those that have been waiting for it do as well. The game is for them not me. All that said, I’m intrigued. If you would told me I’d have interest in this game, even six months ago, I would have called you crazy.
