Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

Eh. Mishimas got a pretty big and uneccessary buff, and the top 3 characters constantly dominating the game got toned down. Those are the really big footnotes. I don’t agree with some of the changes but, I’m gonna let things play out before immediately jumping on the wagon.

Yea I don’t even play just what I’ve heard around here.

Gen 5 was the age of the hyper offense weather teams. THAT was awful and bland. The only generation I skipped. Gen 4 was Kino. Last good generation was gen 6. Yes mega pkmn were annoying but it was fun. Gen 7 was wacky with ultra beasts and z moves. Haven’t played competitive gen 8 so I don’t know what is happening.

I don’t play competetive pokemon

Same, in terms of content for the casual I say Gen 5 be the best but I am won’t lie that was also the last gen where I played until the end game.

Last time I checked, Dynamax (The gen’s big gimmick, pun intended.) got banned.

They made it so broke that people say, “A’ight, this is even worse than the Z-Moves, I’m outta here.”

Honestly I think every Pokemon is an ok RPG at best. Even the ones people call the best are just ok. Pokemon a light hearted team building time waster for me. None of them are very compelling or anything. No Pokemon comes within miles of my favorite RPGs.

Bored of Pokemon now. Moving on to Rip and Tear.

That Fight N’ Rage game I’ve been yammering on about is $5 on GOG right now. Shouldn’t take much of a PC to run it either. Can’t recommend it enough if you like brawlers at all: https://www.gog.com/game/fightn_rage?gclid=CjwKCAjw3-bzBRBhEiwAgnnLCqnvUa98qFolfWL6li_EAdLNHuzaNOcNLOhq-xQCkQJ8HY8Da7pfoxoC44MQAvD_BwE

Competitive Pokémon is a lot of fun until the dudes at Smogon start banning half of the damn roster. If you play outside of their ruleset, expirimenting with Pokémon you’ve spent forever training up is deeply satisfying. Especially when your compositions start working.

It is, even top players are complaining about how dumb the changes are. Also, since S3 started, there’s literally been like 3 or 4 balance patches in the span of just a couple of months. Tekken is fucking Mortal Kombat now. :sob:

This is from Arslan Ash’ Twitter(dude who won both Evo Japan AND Evo US in the same damn year.) He’s right on the money. They nerf characters based on tournament results. Akuma I personally think was in an OK state even after all of the nerfs, but the recent changes are so big that I don’t even want to play the character or the game anymore. :sob:

SFV is the same way from what I noticed. The year it debuted and it was Nash v Nash in the finals of evo a few days later Nash was nerfed to high heaven

That’s unfortunately the state of fighters now. Once x character wins, casuals who don’t even play the game on a serious level complain so they nerf x and buff y until y wins

Yeah but was anything banned? That’s my point lol

It’s funny because S2 was arguably the most balanced even with an S tier Geese & Akuma. With S3, they buffed damage and wall carry across the board for most of the cast, and the damage output now is just silly.

Dude has a death combo and unlike Geese or Akuma he doesn’t need meter to do it. He’ll be overpowered for a few weeks, then they’ll nerf him in a month along with another Akuma nerf for no reason, and he’ll still be S tier just like Leroy.

Is it really the state of fighters, or just the state of a select few games?

Tekken is probably the worst example of using patches to balance your game right now. Other than that, I don’t really see any other fighters having this issue at the moment. DBFZ had to deal with GT Goku, sure, but he was nowhere near as dominating and dumb as Leroy.

Aside from that: SamSho, MK, Granblue, UNIST, Soul Calibur and even DBZ haven’t really suffered from rampant and careless balance patches.

The most popular fighters, then?

I’m pretty sure MK11 has gotten a shit ton of patches.

Also, wasn’t Cell a huge problem for a while in DBFZ? Same with Bardock.

MK always gets a shit ton of patches no matter what.

And to think I’m the crazy one for not liking modern day patching in fighters.

Haha. Accurate

I just hate modern day fighters in general outside of Tekken. So same energy.

MK11 has gotten substantially less patches than the last few games. Like, maybe 6, and none of them have really forced you to re learn your character which was the main reason people complained about their incessant patching. Most of those had minor or small amounts of changes, at the most.

One thing that sucks about all of the patching is that it makes watching older tournament matches to learn pointless, because some things those people are doing with their characters might not even work anymore in newer versions of the game.

There’s a lot of things that sucks about it but that’s deffinitly a big one.
