The problem is… It’s built on the flawed GSC foundation. That level curve is probably the worst in the series.
And I ain’t hearing anything about Kanto. Kanto is a joke. Nostalgia at its finest, there’s pretty much nothing to do there.
Shoutouts to Janine being the worst sandbag in the series. At least she ain’t as bad as GSC Janine tho.
Since we’re on the subject, wanna rank the games? I’m curious as for why you’d put HGSS as the GOAT over games that aren’t as flawed.
It’s pretty hard to make a Pokémon game “not fun” with the core Pokémon mechanics (USUM actually did it.), but you’ll see what I mean when you play one of the better ones.
Naw. Just to me HGSS encompasses everything everyone loves about Pokémon and trimmed a lot of the fat that bogged down the originals and OG GSC. Gameplay wise I feel it’s the pinnacle of the series.
Story wise though it’s on the low end. I hate BW/BW2 from a new Pokémon selection stand point but it’s narrative, world building and character progression demolishes every other core generational game. Hands down.
If it wasn’t for SuMo than DPP would be my least favorite gen. I don’t know how good Sword and Shield are because I refuse to support that kind of greed.
RSE is fine. It always felt super clunky to me. Like moving through mud. Even the combat
You just called Platinum the goat and that was the last Pokemon I played before SnS. Platinum was boring as absolute all fuck so forgive me but I’m gonna pass on your judgment of the Pokemon game I am playing.
Oh man. Fahkumram is really cool. I think he brings a lot to Tekken. Bruce mains are gonna be stoked to play this guy. It’s a shame he’s going to get overshadowed by the entire Tekken community bitching about season 3.
Gen 4 was definitely the pinnacle of the series for me. Stealth Rock is broken as all hell and pretty much invalidated a lot of mons, but that’s pretty much the only complaint about it in terms of how competitive was.
It had a nice artstyle too, never liked the Gen 5 sprite work. Story-wise, 5 was probably the best though.
I hold HGSS in very high regard, mostly because I’ve also played the shit out of Gens 1 and 2, but I can’t ignore that level curve.
Plat for me had that perfect balance of giving you all kinds of great mons without making the game too easy because the leaders also had great mons and the level curve was just fine. Post-Game was solid too. Not the best Frontier but it was good, it had some stuff to explore and the gym leader rematches were fun.
The pros far outweigh the cons. It was a great game.
Uh…were you around or of age for competitive gen 2? It was nuts. Blissey/Skarmory/Weezing hazard stall was so powerful they had to ban blissey and skarmory from official Pokemon tournaments.
I don’t think the meta has gotten that ridiculously unbalanced since then.
