Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

Yea of course. We agree completely. The problem is Beth doesn’t do good work…ever. so it’s not worth their time to iterate cuz they are iterating on trash anyway.

Just fucking start over and actually try this time.

Am I the only one who doesn’t find this impressive? Lots of developers make huge works full of shit to find. This is the bare minimum for a big open world rpg, and has been for a very long time.

One thing is not mutually exclussive with the other.
They can be really good at building worlds and fill them with nice little details.
But at the same time, they can have either a lax attitude when doing their code work, or like what happen in many ocassions on the gaming industry, the people doing the work, are good coders, but not good software developers, only caring about the code doing the work, but not in the most optimal way possible.

Is something that i have seen on multiple ocassions across the software industry.
Like at a time when i was working at a bank, and the people that provided our financial core system, sent some hindues to do some new modules we needed.
They threw some shit that was pure unoptimized garbage, and luckily i was in charge of the quality control (being the systems adinistrator), i put them to do the work again and do it in my specifications, and even then, we had to deal with a lot of shit that they implemented before me and my team were there.

I agree, but i dont have faith in them at all to do a good work even if trying and starting from zero.
It has been almost 2 decades and we are still seeing the same fucking glitches poping every time, because they refuse to do something about it, hell, many of said glitches have been fixed by moders, is not like they cant just take a look at one of those and implement it.

But no.
My last bethesda game was New Vegas (more like an obsidian game), i loved it so much, but the constant bugs forced me to stop playing it because it was impossible to play at several times.

It is why i am glad to hear that the outer world seems a good game so far.
Gonna give it a chance.

If it’s the same rumor that Jason Schierer(dude who reported about TLoU2 rumor) posted about it sounds like it’ll still be a PS4 game. I could see it getting BC enhancements though.

Sony needs to be more like Nintendo when it comes to announcements and keep them closer to release date, when it comes to PS5. They have plenty of games to talk about whether through first, second or third party.

So my current publisher no-buy list looks kinda like this:

Blizzard/Activision

EA (also extends to all studios under EA, especially them Bioware mothafuckas)

Epic Games (I’ve spent a grand total of $10 on Fortnite, mostly for grandson)

And now id/Zenimax.

Let me be clear, I’ll play these companies games on console through either renting their games or through Redbox. They’ve lost my trust and my purchasing power forever, and if I ever buy a game from the above, it’s used/pre-owned only, because fuck them.

Edit: Capcom has come really fucking close to being added to this list, but Monster Hunter is keeping them off it.

Bethesda didn’t even make New vegas, Obsidian did. And before a bunch of bug fixes it was the most buggiest thing out there. But I think Ubisoft releases far bugger games than this afterwards.

Hence why i said, more like an obsidian game.
Also, it was using the engine that beth used for FO3, there wasnt much they could do about it.

And for what i heard so far, it seems that when working with proper tools, they are capable to deliver a good expexperience.

Actually Obsidian was nearly tearing itself apart, firing key personnel and almost committing suicide during the development of NV due to internal office politics.

Beth saw what is going on and keep their distance rather than stepping in to help the project along.

hahahah I saw this shit coming, man… yesterday I was already thinking —just watch…people who aren’t even subscribers WILL be able to access those so-called “private” worlds somehow… and the infinite stash will definitely be fucked up too…fast forward to today and bam…we’re here. The story of this “Hindenburg” of a game has been such delicious, wonderful gold since day 1.

Back in the days with Skyrim, one reason I did give them a pass because of that insane level of detail…thinking maybe the game was too ambitious for the level of tech/engine that they were working with at the time [2011]…keep in mind this is a game where tons of little objects and characters are all over the world, and they stay there indefinitely… I still recall the day I notice the bodies don’t simply disappear like the old days; a dude that got killed in Whiterun… his body just stayed in that spot…was still there when I came back MONTHS later…the shit amazed me at the time. You go in any random building in that world… there’s tables with various objects like the plates, food, etc. on them; bookshelves with books to read, characters moving around inside those buildings, going about their usual “lives”, getting in and out of bed at certain times, sitting down at a table to eat, etc. etc…the game has to keep track of alllll that shit, man…

I’ve never really supported blizzard. Outside of the Spyro and Crash collections I cant remember the last time I’ve bought from Activision.

Haven’t bought anything from EA since Mass Effect 3. Almost got Andromeda but I just had a gut feeling EA/BioWare was going to shit the bed somehow.

I don’t PC game. I have Steam. However I only have about 12 games, I think? The only ones I’ve even played are the Hunie Pop Titles, the Judge Dredd interactive novel and Chroma Squad.

While Epic is getting a lot of criticism IE making dev’s think with their bank account and not about their player base…it takes 2 to make an exclusivity deal. So they can’t be completely at fault.

Id seems fine? Doom 2016 was bonkers good and return to form. I haven’t played it because FPS’s have never been my thing but I’ve watched a few Let’s Plays of it and the game looks fucking awesome. Eternal looks awesome as well. Also when they have fucked up in recent memory they very quickly remedied the issue.

I don’t know who Zenimax is.

TBF, outside of SFV and MvCi Capcom has been doing really well for themselves when it comes to getting back into the fans good graces since around 2014. Some of their decisions have been questionable (glares at digital vouchers and lazy RE switch ports) but the good definitely outweighs the bad, imo.

Strider 2014 was awesome. Okami being ported to everything known to man with a sequel being teased. SF 30th anniversary collection was nice despite its initial issues. REMakes have been phenomenal. RE7 was a huge gamble but it paid off in spades. DMC5 was well received, monster hunter world iirc is their best selling title ever, MM11 was good, MMZero Legacy Collection has people smacking their lips in anticipation. Plus they want to bring back more dormant IP’s? fuck yeah. Let em.

Not saying you’re wrong in any of your reasoning btw. Just giving my .02 no one asked for. Lol

Zenimax is Bethesda parent company. The only game they directed developed is the Elder Scrolls MMO.

Ooooh. Gotcha. I thought Bethesda WAS the parent company.

TIL.

I completely understand where you are coming from. However, in my mind there’s a difference between Epic as a game dev and Epic as a distribution platform. Sure, no one likes their launcher and store on PC (and rightfully so), but they don’t just have their games alone on there.

Why is iD Software on your no buy list? Their shit has been aces since DOOM2016.

They are Bethesda’s parent company.

I agree.

Why is this on your no buy list?

Of course, my opinion is mine. I feel that their talent is being wasted under Bethesda’s leadership. They do one thing really well (see Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal), and they’re not willing to take chances or risks. This franchise is gonna go the COD route if they’re not too careful.

Id Software also did Rage and Quake Champions. They ain’t putting all their eggs on Doom.
