Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

I guess R.Kelly decided to skip out on his trial.

Cuphead is getting a novel and a comic book series. The novel will have exclusive artwork that will serve as visuals of key moments in the novel.

^BOUGHT… Cuphead is a legend of the current era, imo… I can’t get enough of it.

ā€œOutstarā€ apparently spoke to the Bloodlines 2 devs recently

I disagree and greatly enjoyed the gambit system giving unparalleled party control and a means of sidestepping the tedium of manually dispatching easier enemies for loot. The world building (with vastly different and very elaborate environments) and monster hunting quests remind me of Phantasy Star IV (which had a way to use personally predefined sets of commands). Of course the character designs are all over the place and the plot is not well executed as there is too much time between relevant plot points but there is definitely a sense of epic adventure.

What I did not enjoy is the lack of a combat niche for every character and redundant mandatory purchasing and licensing of gear and spells. However, I found a way to make that work as well through cheats and save hacking. The lack of a proper in-game map for the Great Crystal is a crime against humanity though (I had to print that shit out).

Extra

This vid has a Seinfieldish question in it. And I had to ask people in social circles about it and as expected came away slightly surprised by the answers.

Its still so weird that this game was a thing lol.

Gotta say as much as I like Breath of the Wild base game, the DLC for it is fucking dog shit. The trial of the Sword nonsense is not fun, and I haven’t gotten very far in the other one bit this one hit kill bullshit isn’t fun either. It’s tedious and obnoxious.

Can’t even get past the 4th floor of Trial. I mean I am on Hero mode but still, this is pretty dimb. They don’t give you anywhere close to the resources needed so you just end up spamming bombs over and over. It’s so dull. Whoever came up with this dlc is fucking lazy.

Oh man you’re doing the Sword Trails in Hero Mode? Yeah I know that’s rough. In Normal Mode I was returning to cooking wood to survive.

I loved the master sword trial thing, I didn’t do it on hero mode thou.

i’m still wating for breath of the wild to drop below 30 maybe by black friday

I didn’t expect ordering anything from Limited Run Games would be a wait…

I pre-ordered Skullgirls from them and I got my copy a full year after my purchase. Granted there was some troubled production with that one.

It’s always a wait though?

Well today I learned so…

We’re in business!

It was not that tough to get it in my basement with 2 of my friends. I just had it on a dolly and they were on the other side when we went down stairs slowly. I ended up putting it all back together today and after having a few hiccups, everything is working as it was prior. Here’s a video of it in action.

The screen is still a little dark and I believe if I have someone do a cap kit instlalation on my monitor it will look brighter and back to ā€œnormalā€. It seems to be a pretty standard issue with these old monitors that after a while you just need to replace some capacitors.

As for my other JAMMA boards, it’s kind of bad news all around.

MK1 - MK1 works fine but the sound board isn’t working. I get some error in the diagnostics test as well and I remember from back in the day, the sound boards were so suspect.

MK2 - MK2 works fine as well but again the sound board isn’t working. However, I get no error codes at all and the diagnostics test makes it look like it should be playing sound. So I’m just again, guessing this is due to the crappy sound boards these things are known for.

KI2 - it isn’t even turning on. There are 2 lights on the PCB that neither turned on. One said ā€œSOUND OKā€ and the other one is something about the HDD. But no lights come on. I powered it on without the HDD turned on, and one light turned on, which was the HDD one. So it’s getting power.

I’m going to do some research and see if I can have someone fix my MK sound boards or help dianose them. I am also going to see if the way my KI2 game is acting up is basically what happens when the HDD is dead. And if that is the case, I’m going to just buy the flash version of it on ebay for $34. I almost want to do it right now but am going to first wait because if I got it and it still didn’t work, what a waste. that would be.

Yay for arcade games!

sheeeitttt, I’m still hooked on Gears Horde modes…went to 50 twice last night thru to this morning; leveling up various things. Jack is such an easy character it’s crazy… the only problematic situation is when there’s an Ice Scion…that’s easily the most dangerous enemy for Jack, imo. Once you start getting hit by that cryo cannon it’s basically over, since the freezing effect naturally slows you down…you don’t really have much chance in flying away from it…effectively this becomes the Gears/shooter equivalent of a ā€œtouch of death comboā€. With your speed drastically impaired by the first hit of the freezing effect, you cannot get away from the rest of it; you’re in for a ride on every last bit of that damage and getting downed then. Sometimes I’ve been able to get away if I was already on the very edge of the Scion’s range though.
…and of course a good, productive ultimate is always satisfying; on wave 50 of this last run I used it at such a perfect time, getting sooo much juicy damage on the boss (and possibly the kill; there was so much going on I already forgot) then killed some regular enemies that were left. So far Jack also has the most fun and interesting ultimate move, at least imo.

ohhhhhh some leaks??

My favorite Final Fantasy is VI but I love other entries. FFI is a game I always enjoy replaying (moreso the remakes/enhanced ports) despite the flat characters and simplistic plot. FFII gets a ton of hate, but I still dig that game. I love FFIV and V, especially love V’s more lightheartedness and have a soft spot for Exdeath even though he is a one note character. I never finished X or even played X-2 so looking forward to getting the Switch version of those gamea. Ditto for XII.

Import the Asia version from Play Asia. It has the English translation, voice work, and both FFX & FFX-2 are on the cartridge. US version has X and a download code for X-2.
