Dunno why the media keeps trying to push that shit.
It wasnt a game, it wasnt acted well, it wasnt well writen, it wasnt innovative, it wasnt clever.
It was garbage.

I think that when people call FF6 or FF7 (and even Chrono Trigger) overrated they tend to forget the context on when those games came oit.
Yeah, if we value them now, in our current context, those games have been suprassed in both storytelling and technical/gameplay stand points.
But by the time both were released both games were revolutionary in many aspects.
Which is why they are still considered in high regard to this day.
A movie equivalent will be the OG SW trilogy.
If you were to see it today, for the 1st time, without the nostalgia and the timeframe context, you will think that the movie is whatever and even bad, and wouldnt understand why the fuss about it.
I didnāt play VI until probably mid-teens? I played 7 pretty much when it came out. When I played them I didnāt think they were relatively anything special.
There were characters, scenarios and battle mechanics, etc I liked about each game. I still find suplexing mother fuckers with Sabin entertaining and I still find the materia system fun as hell to play around with.
However, looking at the big picture of both games I found them both incredibly underwhelming and boring.
That said. I get why people feel they are classics and genre defining games. In a lot of ways they are. But, I also feel nostalgia creates a lot of that outlook as well. A lot of peopleās first RPGās were FF6 and 7. Especially in the West.
I really liked FF13. I found the battle extremely fun. Story was kinda meh, but I loved going back and killing the big fuckers.
Sahz is the best. Snow turning into a whiney bitch made me sad. Hope turning into a bad ass was unexpected.
Fang and Vanille being annoying Aussie lesbians was annoying. Especially at their revelation. Especially especially because neither of them were consistent in their accent.
Lighting was whatever.
The plot was incoherent as fuck.
I liked FF13 despite its many flaws, but one thing that truly turned me off (besides Vanille english dub) was Hope and Lightning constant dumbassery, made even worse because their target of their idiocy was the only char i truly liked from the cast, Snow.
The main thing that really pissed me off about XIII is making all the summons transformers.
Likeā¦why.
Cause itās more than meets the eye.
I have yet to finish the XIII trilogy, despite owning all games.
When i was playing XIII i was over the 1st half when for some unfortunate reasons i lost my savefiles for multiple games.
And after that i never mustered the strenght to start FFXIII all over again and suffer Vanilleās voice, and Lightning and Hope retardation.
I thought the combat in 13 was really good. Allowed me to look over all the other stuff I didntā enjoy.
I hit a wall with Asgardās wraith. Iāve encounter really bad stuttering issues. The fire effects on my handaxe causes the game to stutter and it completely fucks the tracking and turns the game into a slideshow. It sometimes tanks the frame rate and when the frames drop motion sickness follows.
Iām especially fuck now as Iām up to the boss and the bow I need to fight him with causes stutter. This fight is unplayable. Lowering graphics setting and resolution doesnāt help. Fuck.
Never played FF12 but seeing a friend play it the game plays with itself. Set it and forget it.
Itās pretty much the definition of linear. Thereās not even a world map to explore, really. There is a world map but you donāt explore it. It just āopensā as you complete a section and you go to the next section. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Itās Very much a ābabyās firstā¦ā RPG. You go to a new area, team with an NPC, get new weapon to fight baddies and a boss whoās weakness is said new weapon. Usually the weapon also doubles as an area specific tool you use to advance and solve puzzles in said area. Youāll also collect a key item relevant to the next area. repeat xN.
I really liked the visual representation of the battle system tho. It had a unique looking HP system. It also Showed the monsters being actually hurt by showing battle damage. Felt incredibly rewarding. That was and still is very cool to me.
Game is still ass but a lot of fun.
In my case, I never thought FFVII was that good to begin with. I did not find it impressive at itās release. Resident Evil did the polygonal characters over CGI backgrounds first and better. Prior CD based games had animated sequences and unlike FFVII had extensive voice work. The most impressive thing about FFVII wasnāt the game itself but is marketing campaign. Which thankfully lead to more JRPGs being brought to the West.
cheh, one strange thing with the formatting of ignās list so farā¦sometimes they show a picture of 1 game but the text is talking about something else for some reason⦠like next to Skyrim, the text is still talking about Smash Brosā¦and the section showing a picture of Fortnite while the writer there was seemingly talking about FF Tacticsā¦? ??
aha, I see Left 4 Dead 2⦠hell yeah that is still one of the greatest co-op gaming experiences Iāve ever had the pleasure of playing. I also enjoyed the fine details of those games that made it like you were characters in a zombie film for real.
ohooooo and Bioshock, manā¦yeah I expected to see that on the list. That reveal near the end was one of the greatest plot-point ājaw-dropperā moments in all my years of gaming. It will always be remembered for that, most likely. That first time I encountered a āHoudiniā splicer also stands out.
ā¦ah, and of course goddamn Tetris is way up there as usual. I just never saw the greatness in that. Itās always just been an āalrightā game to me in a ālight snackā kinda way, as opposed to games that are more of a full course meal. Iām surprised they didnāt make this shit # 1 like a lot of publications and sites occasionally like to do.
editāIām glad they didnāt go for that layout where you see only a piece of the list at a time and then have to click to the next page; I never have the patience for that bullshit.
Prob ment adult rydia
Yeah the battle systtem in FF12 is in a weird spot. Gambits allowed for so much flexibility in how your party acts in specific situations and against specific enemies, but said flexibility gave you so much automation for the battles that literally all you needed to do is tilt the left stick forward to advance through the map and sometimes press X to interact with the save crystal or open a door or switch a mechanism etc
cheh, and thereās the main reason I will never get the appeal of such games⦠at least for me, if the way combat works in a game is shitty and lame (like basically watching my characters do everything with little to no input required from me), then the whole thing is absolutely ruined as far as Iām concernedā¦nothing else can make up for a severe flaw like that.
on another note (ha, so this isnāt just random complaining and cheap shots)⦠even after beating Cuphead, I still enjoy it; I was playing again earlier todayā¦itās surprising how you can eventually beat bosses in this game that seemed borderline impossible before. I beat Dr. Kahlās Robot again earlier, and I think most would agree with me thatās one of the toughest bosses in the entire gameā¦2nd phase can be destroyed easily, but the first and 3rd phases of that fight are kinda ridiculous. Overall Iād say heās actually THE toughest in the game⦠the green dragon is another one that comes to mind, but with him itās mostly that last form; the first 2 phases are fairly easy; his 3rd phase is Hell, manā¦fireballs that split into more fireballs if you accidentally hit them⦠a flame breath attack that stretches across the whole screen, on top of the fact that you have to keep jumping from one cloud to another while all this is going onā¦
editāah, almost forgot about King Dice; yeah heās a bit worse since thereās some luck involved thereā¦if you are unlucky during the fight (you have to guess which hand he will use to deal the cards; 50/50 chance obviously but yep itās randomā¦by the time you see the arm coming down you donāt have time to change course if you already went the other way) you probably WILL die there.
