@Radiantsilvergun3 you played through Sekiro, yeah? I started it but ended up putting it down because of another game. But I really like it and I’m going to get back into it now. I wanted to ask you, and anyone else, did you change the control scheme? Reason I ask is because I just played Fallen Order and got used to attack on square. I know they’re completely different games, but there are some similarities in the combat style. I’m just wondering if it’s worth it to keep the controls set to default.

Also, I’ve heard a lot of you guys give praise to Nioh. Is that game kinda in the same genre? Combat based on blocking and parrying, getting upgrades and new moves, etc.? I’m kinda new to this style, having never played the Souls games.

I think I also have Bloodborne from when it was free on PSN. Might give that a look, too.

I used the default controls @Chadouken

I don’t have much to say about Nioh, I didn’t get into that one.

Right on. I’ll see where I’m at after I finish Sekiro. I’m excited to get back into it.

Sekiro is an awesome game once it clicks and you find your groove.

I liked Nioh more than Sekiro. It’s OK if you haven’t played many Souls titles, Nioh feels more like an action game than an ARPG *imo and it rewards people who have played action games before(DMC, Ninja Gaiden, etc.)

Nioh’s combat is more fun than Sekiro’s imo and you have more options to how you approach/deal with situations. Sekiro basically forces you to “learn matchups” and what I mean by that is you need to learn when to parry and to constantly keep your enemies posture up(guard break mechanic basically.) You HAVE to play the game a specific way or you will get waxed in Sekiro against most encounters in the game whereas in Nioh you have more options to how you approach a situation.

Nioh 2 is one of my most hyped titles of the year.

I’m interested in nioh, almost bought it on sale a couple of times. What deterred me was a user rescue that said there are constant weapon/armor drops like diablo or borderlands- I can’t stand that, I spend way too much time comparing stats constantly in those games.

Oh yea there are tons and tons of gear drops in Nioh. The RPG element is felt most in the gear system imo…

Sick. I’m gonna pick it up when I’m done with Sekiro. Can probably find it pretty cheap by then maybe.

Edit: Just checked and I already have in my library from when it was PS+ title! I just have to download it.

Diablo style games combined with loot out the azz is one of my favorite genres, haha.

I know you like action games and because of that I’d still recommend Nioh. You never have to “grind” for good items/gear, the game is more skill-based but having better items do help. You’ll never clear a level and then go back there to grind loot because you never have to if that’s a plus. You won’t want to until near the end of the game anyway, since item drops are based on things like monster level, so the higher level a monster is the higher item level the item will be, which means better stats.

I think Nioh has ilvl based items anyway ALA Diablo/PoE/Grim Dawn etc. I only ever “grinded” once and it was in an end-game area where monsters dropped a ton of high ilvl loot and I didn’t even have to, I went back there after I cleared the game just because.

IMO, Nioh is quite heavy with loot stuffs, but it kinda pales in comparison to the amount of re-rolling one will likely have to do in order to make quality gear, especially if you like to min/max attributes and skills, and have OCD, lol. Higher-level areas and difficulty levels will have an impact on loot drops, but ultimately, you are gonna make your own stuff, using whatever else loot as resources for refinement, and provided you have unlocked whatever you want to make.

The “grind” for loot is real…
After completing a level, you’ll likely spend some time sorting out your acquired loot to see what you’ll keep, disassemble for resources/parts, what to sell, etc.

i never get nioh because once i found out you cant parry onis, i lost interest. you should be able to parry any enemy including bosses.
especially when there is a cool camera switch when you parry successfully. hopefully nioh 2 corrects this.

Hmm, I’ll probably pick it up next time it’s cheap and see for myself how bothersome I find that element. I still have a backlog of other long games I picked up on sale, including Dark Souls 2.
