WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PC PARTS ARE STARTING TO COME IN BOIZ
HYPE ISRAEL
Shoutouts to Hawkingbird, Darc, and PresidentCamacho. Really made me 2nd guess the parts I was going to buy, followed by doing my own research. I’d usually go mid-range on all my previous builds, but this one is my most expensive one yet where I’ve gone for mostly higher-end stuff.
Hopefully everything else will get here next week sometime, followed by me playing Tekken 7 on full blast settings @ 1080p(and when I upgrade my GPU to a 5700 or 5700XT, imma downsample that bitch from 4k or 8k pretty free.)
What do you mean? If you’re changing the “manufacturer” and are going from Intel to AMD or vice-versa, you’d need an entirely new motherboard since they’re made for completely different sockets/motherboards.
If you’re upgrading your CPU to one in the same “family” for example a Sandy Bridge CPU to another Sandy Bridge CPU you’re golden, since they fit in the same socket. You can plop it in and you’re good, worst case scenario you need a BIOS update to the motherboard, no need for a fresh OS install.
This is what I meant. I suppose the current OS installation won’t recognize there’s a new motherboard inside, right? Never switched a CPU/considered AMD stuff before so I have no idea how the software handles such a drastic change
Hmm. I think if you uninstall the Intel drivers first, then swap out your processor+MOBO while keeping everything else the same you’d be fine.
Thing is your new processor might not even be compatible with older RAM. If you get one of these new Ryzen processors they only support the newer DDR4 RAM types.
I was in a similar situation when I rekt my CPU socket on my old PC. I was thinking about just getting a new motherboard that worked with my older processor, but the thing is that new MOBO didn’t support the older DDR3 RAM I had, so I would have needed new RAM on top of a new MOBO(new as in a DDR3 type that was compatible.)
The best route imo is to just save up a bit and put together an entire new PC. If you’re happy with your current case you can re-use it as well as your GPU and hard drives.
I thought my current Power Supply would be fine with my new build, and while it has enough power, it doesn’t have enough of the right pins that this new PSU and MOBO needed. I was thinking about cheaping out and getting a peripheral to solve my problem but talking to a friend convinced me that just getting a new PSU is the way to go.
Sometimes upgrading a part in a PC isn’t so simple. This time though, I made sure to futureproof myself because I literally don’t want to change a single thing in this new PC for the entire PS5 generation and then some outside of maybe a new graphics card at most.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Intel changes sockets constantly, so you’re limited on how you can upgrade your CPU, whereas AMD gives you a bit more leeway. These newer AM4 mobos support 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen Ryzen CPU’s and they will have one more line of new CPU’s before they change the socket.
hell yeah… funny; I just happened to start playing Bayonetta again on a new profile… just got past that first quick-time, which I still think is some unforgiving bullshit (when Fortitudo blasts a large chunk of building at you)… one of the only points of annoyance in the whole game, imo… you have way less than 1 second to respond or it’s instant failure.
first tech bought— the “Afterburner Kick”, of course…never leave home without it.
