Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

i didnt have a problem with it at all in the same way i didnt have a problem with Total Recall.
because regardless. i was entertained.

while that is probably the most positive and mature way to look at it man i just can’t. but i suppose that’s what makes it super memorable so in that sense i guess i was entertained.

Fuck that noise.

Well, as I expected… it’s a very slow drip-feed of character content in Gears 5. ā€œOperation 2ā€ details were released recently, and the 2 new characters are Baird and Lizzie Carmine…yep, just 2 characters.

It’s such an odd approach to go that damn slow, when you consider how much content is going on in other games at the moment… it’s pretty obvious they took some slight influence from Overwatch…now they also went at an annoyingly slow pace imo and only released 1 character at a time… but if I recall, each character in that game had several ā€œskinsā€ to unlock and choose from right away…

Horde mode in particular—I doubt any of the fans have ever wanted it to make sense in terms of the storyline… so why not at least include the several alternate versions like ā€œClassicā€ Baird, or ā€œDB Industries Bairdā€ where he has the labcoat, or those old ā€œzombieā€ skins for everyone, the weird color variants, etc.? Sheeeitttt, I’d go even further out in left field with robotic versions like ā€œCybernetic Bairdā€ or ā€œCyborg Variant Marcusā€, ā€œRobot Domā€, etc., or ā€œLambent/Infected JDā€, ā€œLambent/Infected Kaitā€ā€¦ ā€œSwarm Mutant Hybrid Domā€ etc. etc. etc.

There’s sooo many obvious ways to improve this game, imo… but the sad thing is that I realize they won’t happen.

I liked GoW1 a lot and thought CoO was good, but GoW2 had too much of that ā€œopen a door on the other side of the room and try to get to it in timeā€ bullshit. I bought the game new and traded it back in before I even finished it.

Got a general question for you guys here, and this isn’t a gotcha or anything, I’m just curious as to the responses.

If there was something like a Spotify for games that had libraries of a lot of old school (PS2 and older let’s say, but also NES, SNES, DOS, MSX, etc) games that are generally out of print/hard to come by/expensive, and you could download the games via a steam type client to your PC/console/smartphone/whatever, would you pay something like $10/month for that? Why or why not?

Again, not try to gotcha people, I’m just legit curious what people think.

I wouldn’t because I buy those games anyway.

I probably still own all that crap so nah lol.

You’re a collector though, yeah? Do you replay a lot of the games you buy or not so much?

Well I don’t like to use the term collector because a collection insinuates it’s something to be looked at but not touched. I prefer to call it my Library. Libraries are meant to be used.

And yes I’ve replayed everything I’ve bought at some point or another.

Yes I would. PC is my primary gaming platform so I don’t mind game clients at all.

I do too actually but there’s quite a bit I found out about and wanted to play but didn’t really want to buy outright so I went to rom sites. Me personally I’d prefer an option that involved some of these companies getting a bit of money for their older games as I feel like maybe if a company like Konami had revenue coming in from old ass games on the regular maybe it would make them feel less inclined to make pachinko shit, but maybe that’s my naivety talking.

Fair enough, I’m kind of the same way actually except I don’t have my older consoles hooked up for the most part.

Same usually. Although there’s a lot of games I bought over the years that I don’t really care if I own them or not. Bloodborne, Dracula X Chronicles? I absolutely want to own them. But there’s other stuff the i bought, played, liked, but will probably never play again. Games are kjnd of like books for me, most of them ill probably never play again after my one time thru them.

@TheDoctaMario

This isn’t even everything either. So yea I just don’t have much use for a service like that, personally speaking.
