Yes. First Departure is the first of seven star oceans.
First Departure: Originally on Super Famicom as simply Star Ocean. It was never released outside of Japan until it was remastered for PSP adding First Departure to its name. It’s getting complete remake for PS4/Switch on 12/5/19 as Star Ocean - First Departure R
Second Story: PSOne and later remastered for PSP where it was renamed Second Evolution. Second Evolution was ported to PS4 in Japan last year. There have been rumblings that it will be released outside of Japan in 2020 on PS4/Switch.
Blue Sphere: Second Story spin-off for GBC that was not released outside of Japan. Was later ported to mobile. Again as a Japan exclusive release.
Til the End of Time: PS2 and later remastered for PS4
Last Hope: Originally a 360 exclusive it Was later ported to PS3 as an “International” edition. Then a 4K HD remastered was made for PS4/Steam

I’ve actually met Matthew Inman several times. He lives right outside Seattle and always had a booth at the local comic conventions. Super fucking funny dude and extremely chill. My sister has a bunch of posters signed by him too.
I actually had a Bearodactyl themed birthday party one year.

Star ocean hit that 3rd game and it was downward spiral after that. 4 has a good battle system at least but everything else is horrible especially that meme worthy voice acting. 5 has that witch with her ass out. that’s the only positive in that one.

That Witch with her ass out is what convinced me to pass on the game. I can’t be spending 80+ estimated hours staring at a 14 year old naked ass.
