Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

It’s not really an escort mission in any sense of the word. I’d say those aspects are almost 100% tied to the narrative and don’t even show themselves in the gameplay whatsoever.

You can actually play this game pretty fast. There was a guy who showes up in my feed awhile back who opened my eyes to how the game could be played a higher skill. Lemme see if I can find him.

Pretty sure it was this guy

Edit: he has tips and tricks on the stuff he does on his channel and watching him fight a valkyrie is crazy

sheeeeitttttt, I didn’t expect the black Friday sale to already be in effect; on Live there’s the “Capcom Black Friday Sale” I just noticed… RE2 is 19.80! :open_mouth: DMC V is also 19.80; I already have it though. For those who somehow still don’t have it after all these years— DMC4 Special Edition is 75% off, and it’s already a cheap price normally if I recall…ah yep—sale price is just 8.99!

Good thing I waited around on Monster Hunter World: Iceborne… Iceborne itself is now 29.99… not quite as good as the other sales here but that’s still a percentage off…

oh there’s only about 9 hours left…

Every single threadripper review I’ve read has made that clear. TR is for production workloads, and is a poor choice for a gaming build. Benchmarks show this over and over as well. If your’re using your PC for heavily threaded production workloads and you also want to do some gaming on it, that’s fine, but you’re otherwise better off with a Zen 5, 7, or 9. And the 3900x/3950x beat the 1920x even in those production loads.

the combat is more akin to dark souls in this 2018 version.
you’ll notice it when you see that the button layout is the same as dark souls.
that said, you have almost all of your old moves from previous games.
the camera isnt an issue, any attack coming behind you, the boy gives you a head’s up by yellin at you that its coming. sorta like the voices in your head did in hellblade senua’s sacrifice that came out a year before GOW 2018.
also.
you have an axe that comes back to you like thor’s hammer. enuff said.

that brat, as you call him, does the illest shit you’ve ever seen.
he will intertwine his attacks into your kratos combos, in the sickest fashion, and its poetry in motion. his attacks, are better and more helpful than you think they are.
edit:
i would highly recommend you level up the boy before kratos. his ability to stun enemies will be more beneficial to you than leveled up kratos. the boy’s stun abilities will save you often.

Yeah, Atreus is no detriment to the gameplay at all. Combat wise, he’s basically an extra weapon. Not someone you have to escort.

Ah, yes. How silly of me. Thanks.

But on another topic: is that new Star Wars game good even if you don’t care about Star Wars on a base level? It’s EA, but it’s got my interest. Not enough that I have to have it now though (I’m waiting to see what fuckery they’re going to pull, and I’m buying it used).

Atreus can’t even die IIRC, so its not like the game is an escort mission. And once u level him up, he’s extra useful in combat, essential even. He’s really does add alot to the game

Takes more then putting attacks on the shoulder buttons to be Souls.

It’s being getting rave reviews across the board.

I own the game but have yet to play it so I can’t really give my opinion on the game itself. However, Ive only heard two real complaints: dips in frame rate when transitioning to certain areas and long loading times. But they’ve been releasing patches to address those issues.

Yeah the loading times are horrid right now. Not enough to get me to stop playing the game, but it’s rough.

But whether it’s worth it if you’re not into Star Wars…hard to say really. It’s a mix of Metroidvania and Souls games, but really nowhere near as deep as either when it comes to exploration and customization. I think what helps it is that the combat is more engaging because it’s not tied to a Stamina Bar. You have a Block Meter and a Force Meter that caps you from going too buckwild with your fancier stuff, but otherwise you’re a lot more free when it comes to attacking and evading. If you were looking for a less punishing Souls type game then this would be the one.

Gow3 was great. And yeah, Kratos doomed the world in it. But if you read the old mythology stories about Ares/Mars/Aries and the many gods of war, that’s what they represent, rage, impulsiveness AND shortsightedness.

Team Ninja you cowards…give me a new Ninja Gaiden.

Putting in a Ninja Gaiden character in DOA for the 15th anniversary of the series is fucked up.

Oh well…at least they acknowledged the series. I hear Nintendo did fuck all for Donkey Kongs anniversary, which is funny and sad at the same time.

didnt even realized its a new char. they all look the same to me…generic body, different hair, done.

Rachel is a little random…like she’s hardly relevant or anything. Feel like Momiji would have made more sense. Meh whatever. She looks kinda fun.

After how shitty Ninja Gaiden 3 was I don’t trust them to make a new good entry again without Itagaki in charge. Sure, it’d be cool to see a Ninja Gaiden 4 but…I just don’t think they can develop a title as good as Black or 2

@Sonicabid has always gone to beat for Razor’s Edge. It’s a shame that it stayed on the Wii U.

Razor’s Edge is available on 360 and PS3 as well
dunno about PC
