Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

I think Ultra let’s you do that but it’s kinda wonky and I remember not being completely accurate. It’s still also just every version jammed under one roof instead of each version. Like how the Alpha Collection has an all under one roof mode but also keeps each version seperated.

That was back at launch tho I dunno what’s changed.

Edit: I also don’t like relying on companies for this kind of legacy support. Companies are awful at preserving their libraries propery, it’s why you end up with guys like M2 and BluePoint who specialize in preserving software because the parent companies are garbage at it. It’s not even just a games problem, have fun finding an unedited version of the Star Wars OT on commercial Blu Ray.

Yea no thanks.

How are we paying for more when the V Trigger 2 update was free if you already owned SFV?

Buying SFIV versions alone was 130$. Blazblue revisions weren’t cheap either.

What math is being done here?

yea but im assuming what radiant would want is something like characters that didn’t exist in that version being blacked out and you can only use the characters as they were in that specific version.

I’m still mad that my man Dee Jay in IV never got buffs yet pros were saying he was good since he was introduced.

I was going off Sonicabids math. Maybe we pay the same. If so that’s awesome. I would prefer that.

The dream situation would be both options being offered.

If we are talking a collection situation I would like it to be like the Alpha collection. An all in 1 Hyper/Ultra mode but also each game separated and on their own.

maybe? when you want all the content of sfv you have to pay a shit load more money then you could ever spend in sf4 and its iterations+costumes for less content!

how do you think they manage to give people “free updates”? it works the same way as with f2p games…

i guess now that you bring it up iv’e never thought much about the preservation aspects of fighting games even tho we just had a conversation about which real bout game to play in this thread not too long ago. for better or worse we wont be having those kinds of conversations in the future because of how things are going.

Yea, we wont. There will only be one version. Better hope it’s Real Bout Special.

so tl;dr Radiant wants FG developers to start doing standalone releases of definitive patch versions of the games, i.e. let’s say Namco does Season 4 for tekken - if that is the last season with no balance patches or DLC planned after that - he wants Namco to release Season 4 on disc.

IMO that’s pretty reasonable, I don’t like how so many games do additional disc releases but then there are sttill patches afterwards (e.g. Rev2 had a couple of updates to it). It’s bad for preservation because it means in 10-20 years from now when there are no more servers to get patches or DLC from - many games will essentially only be available in their non final incomplete iterations

Think what that means for balance alone, let alone us possibly not being able to play certain characters period

If you bought everything in SFIV day one you’d spend almost 300$. Bundle packs lowered that to about 200$.

SFV: AE Edition gives all the season 1/2 characters with battle outfits for 40$ and Season pass 3 is 30$.

Now I don’t exactly feel like adding up all the other stage and costume bundles but you need to account for the fact that you can easily use fight money to unlock Stages or characters. You also don’t have to pay for another version.

Where is the less content?

Is fight money easy to get now? Can you get it offline? I don’t play online. If I can’t get fight money offline then it’s nonexistent to me. Do you get decent pay outs now? When I was playing back in the day the fight money pay was awful compared to the cost of content in the store and again you couldn’t earn any of it offline.

You get fight money for arcade/story, tutorial/challenge mode, survival and the weekly or monthly quests.

I legit bought all the stages with fight money.

And even if you didn’t buy SF: AE edition season 1 was 10$ and S2 is 20$.

But not Vs mode…the mode I use the most…right. least there are other options now.

Anyway just googled it and without passes all of Vs content is around 330 dollars or so it seems.

Basically not anymore, Capcom has completely nerfed FM gains from single player content with Arcade Edition

i actually think it’s the in-between shit that would get lost. somebody somewhere is going to have the starting and ending product available in the internet age but that random patch where a certain character was good for 6 months before getting nerfed that’s the shit thats going to be hard to find.

I thought they only nerfed those weekly/monthly quests?

You still get hella payouts for doing the survival modes.

See this is the other, i will admit personal, issue. I don’t use those modes. I use Vs mode and Training. That’s it. Don’t want to grind out boring ass survival mode and trails and shit, but then that’s the same as me hating unlocking characters to so whatever.

I’m pretty sure when AE went live it also brought nerfs to fight money system, so you can only really earn it from character level ups now

Ahh well. Atleast FM from level ups isn’t terrible if you got all the characters lol.

so you compare now day one costs vs year 3 purchase cost? usf4 can be bought for 10 bucks or less these days. when you compare products you start with both on day1…here a little snippet to help you out on one side and its not even all. bunch of stuff is missing. feel free to fill that list up and compare it then again with what you had to pay for sf4 during its lifetime.
