Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

for something like that, I might be able to handle some moon runes.

LOL that is such a copout by Kojima. The gold ole “you just don’t get it” argument.

So glad I had no desire to get that wacky looking game.

Oh, and I don’t like shooters either. I haven’t played a shooter since COD:MW, the original one. So no, it’s not just about liking shooters Kojima.

I like Kojima but thats bullshit, America liking shooter titles aint got shit to do with the criticism DS gets. Ive yet to actually play it but Im almost 99% sure that aint the reason

I mean hes not wrong we over whelmingly love shooters. Everyone in the thread has been complaining that it just looks like you walk everywhere and don’t get to deal in much combat, now it’s bullshit when he points out we love games with tons of combat? Not bullshit at all. I doubt he’s 100% correct but he’s also not way off the mark either.

Good ole Kojima with the option select. :joy:

He’s 100% off. Throwing a bunch of guns into the equation wouldn’t magically fix the issues being brought up. The complaints were the game is boring and the actual combat that is there is too easy.

Pretty garbage to act like DS not being insert shooter is why Americans are giving him shit.

Good thing he didnt say that then I guess.

Yea because we overwhelmingly love combat in our videogames. We enjoy lots of violence in our videogames and DS lacks a focus on that its not the point of the game and people are complaining about it, including yourself.

He didn’t say that either. He didn’t say it wasnt “insert shooter” he said it was being reviewed hard for a lack of what Americans like in their games, combat, and the combat we primarily prefer is shooting people which are all things DS lacks and is getting criticized for.

Combat doesn’t have to be shooter focused. DS has its own combat and boss fights. But it’s not very well fleshed out and painfully easy. He could have said they don’t like it cause combat isn’t the focus. He’d still be mostly wrong as that isn’t the only complaint, but he’d be less wrong than the silly ass statement about shooters.

Hell I don’t even like shooters like that. When someone says combat in videogames my first thought is not FPS.

The fact you have to constantly mash triggers to maintain balance is a huge turn off.

The seemingly non-sensical story for the sake of it being “deep” or “emotional” is a huge turn off.

The fact it’s fetch quest the game is a turn off.

The fact it seems to use a lot of the BS Breath of the Wild did to feign “immersion” is a huge turn off.

The lack of combat isn’t.

American reviewers aren’t the only one criticizing it either. The “you just don’t get it” excuse is such a copout reply that has no substance

I could maybe see a point if Death Stranding was an X1 exclusive. But it’s a PS4 exclusive.

PS4 doesn’t rely on shooters like X1 does. Not at all.

You got The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and a bunch of other non-shooters that are fantastic games on the console.

He’s just being a whiny bitch.

I know. He didn’t say it had to be either.

Yea and it’s the part of a game Americans tend to love the most so for it to not be the focus is clearly an issue over here. [quote=“Eskills, post:2473, topic:588909”]
He could have said they don’t like it cause combat isn’t the focus

You"d still whine so why he should bother sugar coating his words is beyond me.

He isn’t mostly wrong now. You have to square away how COD outsells almost everything every year even tho it’s the same game every year, while a game that doesn’t focus on combat gets criticised for it. Guns or not his comment is accurate and you are working over time to trey and make it not the case.

Yea like I said saying it differently would be poibtless for him you would still complain.

Cool, you and I are not representative of the majority of American video game players. That you and I don’t play many fps games is 100% irrelevant to what the market data very clearly shows. This is completely irrelevant.

ohhh hell yeah Carrion is finally on its way… I’ve been waiting on that since the first announcement and footage, which seemed like quite a long time ago. Of course, I’d definitely be more interested in a Switch version…but that’s with just about anything these days.

Horizon Zero Dawns combat revolves around shooting shit, what the fuck? PS4 Has TONS of shooters on it. Last of Us has shooting to, as well as braining people to death with rocks. That games hella violent.

Are you trying to say that by “shooter” he is not referring to FPS? Because that is what I understood him as meaning.

I’m pretty sure he means shooting shit, not strictly fps. He’s never made an fps before but his military shooting/sneaking games all did very well in America. Yea the main goal was to sneak but you didn’t have to if you didn’t want to, and that became more and more so with each sequel. By MGSV you could run into a combo and Rambo the whole fucking thing with little effort.

I dunno, when someone says “i like shooters” i don’t think they like GTA, TLOU, or RDR2. I think BF and COD and Halo.

That’s pretty narrow minded imo as there are assloads of 3rd person shooters. I primarily prefer them myself.

Well I guess I would put some TPS in there like Gears of War.

“Shooters” I think of as games where the focus is shooting and there is multiplayer that revolves around death matches. Games where the online is why people actually buy the game.

Games like RDR2 and TLOU, people buy them for story mode and single player. Sure you have guns, but the focus isn’t about that.

Uncharted is not a “shooter” IMO due to what I’m talking about above.
