So…Gears of War, Uncharted, GunGrave series, Max Payne series, RDR series, like so many 3rd person shooters on the market.
Uncharted 2, 3 and 4 have online Death Match.

I’m working overtime? You’re fucking reaching just like he is. CoD sales have nothing to do with Death Stranding being a boring walking simulator with garbage combat.
Again since I actually got to play my brother’s copy the game does have its own combat. It doesn’t work well within itself and it’s overall garbage.
His statement is wack just like this game.
Holy shit mate. That comment is about the American market habits, not Death Stranding combat. Massive Whoosh on your part.
CAN WE ALL BECOME FRIENDS AGAIN SO WE CAN LAUGH AT THE DUMPSTER FIRE THAT IS GOOGLE STADIA?!
Pure trash. Like why pay a sub fee if you have to pay for games as well? The hell kind of system is this? Makes no sense.
Amazing how American market don’t seem to effect other games that don’t focus heavily on combat. Just the wack product put out by Kojima.
0 offense intended but you’d have to be next level retarded to believe this.
There are plenty of games with non combat focus that get released and do well. How many come out and say it didn’t do well or harsh reviews cause America prefers shooters?
How many of them do as well as the leading shooters? How many games with little focus on combat sell close to COD numbers? What walking sim sells RDR2 numbers? Or GOW numbers? Or Gears and Uncharted numbers?
Edit: Look I don’t agree with him 100% or anything. I’m just saying he’s not really wrong for pointing out a very observable fact. We love shooting shit in our games and our games that focus on those tend to out perform and out review everything else. We’ve known this for many years now and is why shooting games overwhelm the other genres and is probably having an impact on his games reception. I doubt it’s the primary reason but to ignore it as a reason is pretty silly. Even MGSV with the dog shit story and tons of walking around still reviewed really well because of its focus on violent forms of problem solving.
Yeah I don’t consider RDR a “shooter” just because it has shooting mechanics in it.
Not at all.
Then what is RDR? What other ways can I solve the majority of problems besides shooting it in the face?
You might just be being Chad, but I’m gonna ask anyway lol.
This is like saying insert game is being harshly reviewed in Europe cause they prefer FIFA and the game didn’t have enough soccer. Sales of other games or a specific regions preferences don’t have shit to do with the issues in Death Stranding.
…most sports games sell worse then FIFA in Europe. I’d bet money it has to do with Madden having a distinct lack of Soccar in it.
Are they reviewing Madden and saying it’s bad cause it’s not FIFA? Is someone saying 2K isn’t receiving the reception it deserves cause Lionel Messi isn’t in it? All this reaching cause he can’t accept the criticism the game is getting.
What makes you think he isn’t accepting it? Speculating on a reason doesn’t mean he’s refusing to accept it.
And I don’t know dude, I live in America, i dont read reviews for European games. I don’t know anything about their gaming press or buying habits. That’s why I am commenting on American habits. Those I get and understand and can talk with confidence about. Americans love shooting shit and our games that focus on it sell and review better then basically anything else. This isn’t even debatable.
Have you played SoR2 on Mania? Shit gets nuts.
No, I’m being serious. I don’t consider games like RDR and HZD shooters just because they have shooting elements involved. And I think that’s good thing. Those games transcend shooters.
To me a "shooter"is your run of the mill COD type game where the primary focus of the game is improving your shooting mechanics.
A game like Destiny is a shooter at it’s core, but it is also a looter, with an RPG element (now more than ever with the Armor 2.0 system), and a weird MMO hybrid.
RDR’s shooting mechanics are borderline garbage. But that’s OK because just shooting bad guys (or good guys) isn’t the entire focus of the game. You have crafting, leveling up your camp, train heists, bank robberies, hunting, getting drunk, fishing, stealing coaches, being an asshole, not being an asshole, and an amazing narrative to follow with really fucking awesome side quests. It’s not a shooter. At least I don’t consider it one.
I had a feeling that Kojima’s statement was gonna rub people wrong. I get what he’s trying to say…but his argument feels flawed.
How is this not the primary focus of RDR and Horizon. Horizon is all about buying and crafting better weapons and ammo so you can more easily hunt bigger shit. The majority of the gameloop revolves around feeding and improving the combat…where you shoot shit. RDR is about getting money to buy better guns and ammo and gear so you can survive longer more drawn out and dangerous gun fights. The only way to solve problems in either of these games is to shoot or punch the problem…these are basically shooter rpgs where you can do other stuff but the primary gameplay loop is shooting shit. Even the narrative of RDR is about shooting people. Lots of people.
I dunno. I get what you mean but you kinda just described a sub genre of shooter if you ask me.
Less flawed, more badly worded. Important to note this is a quote from a Japanese man in an Italian interview being translated into English. So Japanese to Italian to English. Article now even says something about amending the “fly over” part of the comment.
You don’t have to primary focus on shooting in Horizon if that’s not your playstyle. There’s a melee focus and can lay all sorts of traps if you don’t want to shoot shit. I often found using traps to be more effective than the shooting.
