Video Game General 6.5: Now with more surprise mechanics

They have actually shown that it’s mostly just traversal focused and not focused on combat. I don’t even get how people were confused about it, it’s like they didn’t even pay attention to the trailers at all

Not that you needed an excuse for it, but if you had to come up with one…

after watching the launch trailer i agree and it’s pretty much explanatory don’t know why people keep bitching about it somehow I think the hate for Kojima comes from his fans. I follow him on twitter and he is very “hisptery” i kind of feel I have whole disconnection with the people that follow him on his twitter account and his YouTube videos i find their comments annoying and ignorant. I doubt they were there when metal gear solid hit the Playstation back in 1998 that’s probably the source where hates originates

sheeeeitttt, I keep watching the D4 trailer over and over…also watching other people’s reactions to it on youtube… funny how some keep thinking the black dude is Tyrael for some reason…just because he’s the 1 black guy? c’mon now… there’s a few reasons why that’s a silly assumption; the guy is a tiny, frail little chump (these people should check D3 again; Tyrael is huge)… and he’s constantly terrified like he could shit himself at any minute (until he mentally just gives up at the end, accepting his fate)…and the characters don’t even look the same anyway…and Tyrael’s voice was completely different and always sounds imposing.

Anyway, they knocked it out of the park as usual on that trailer. Blizzard games consistently have some of the greatest trailers and cinematics I’ve ever seen in this industry.

One of my favorite ominous moments of the whole thing was when that scared black guy keeps praying “eternal light protects me, eternal light protects me” over and over, and this servant of Lilith calmly just says “…THERE IS NO LIGHT HERE. You came to the darkness…for knowledge.”

The sad thing though; they put all this effort into such a brilliant trailer, and such great lore… and as usual it WILL go unappreciated later. Fans of this type of game will boil it down to a numbers game as usual, where the only discussion that ever exists will be which thing is “best in slot”, which is the most efficient build, DPS, “tanky” builds, what stats take priority in a build, etc. It’s a damn shame, imo…and kinda depressing/lonely when you’re apparently the only one that gives a damn about lore, characters, atmosphere and the “world” of a game. I’d absolutely understand if developers of this type of game eventually threw their hands up like “y’know what…why the fuck do we even bother with storyboards for this shit? None of these muthafuckas actually CARE about it. Why are we even writing dialogue for this?”

Diablo IV looks…weird? Like they’re going into the right direction with the visuals yet strangely it makes the game look very bleak. I guess we’ll have to see what other zones are like, since they mentioned dark and gothic looking hell

OverWatch 2 is basically a 60$ expansion, not quite sure why it needs a separate release when it could’ve been just a massive DLC for OW1, especially since Kaplan said OW1 and OW2 players will be able to play with each other

HearthStone is adding a LOT of dragons, which is fucking awesome. Battlegrounds mode, however, is a very shitty clone of AutoChess and I think the novelty will wear off very quickly. Also reminder this is very likely to be Blizzard’s attempt to attract notable players and community members that left HS for other games, and they scrapped a built-in Tournament mode earlier this year. Wack.

World of WarCraft…boy oh fucking boy, people are REALLY not happy with how much of a prominent role Sylvanas has had in the last few expansions. Burned the World Tree, killed Saurfang, became the leader of Horde, and now she defeated the Lich King and broke his helm to open up a gateway to another dimension. And this, mind you, is all in addition to her previous accomplishments over the course of WarCraft’s lore such as being born into the family of top tier Elven rangers, becoming a general for both Night Elves and Arthas’ armies. Somebody in the WoW team really likes this character too much

You got taste cancer.
And you got no idea what a hack is.

“Quin69” has D4 gameplay footage as well

Battle for Azeroth’s story killed off any remaining interest in Blizzard’s MMOs for me, and yeah; they def use Sylvanas way too much for my liking. Also, they made it painfully obvious for the better part of a couple of expansions leading up to BFA that Jaina was batshit crazy.

Him being a hack has nothing to do with taste.

oh what a twist

You keep using that word, I dont think you know what it means

He doesn’t necessarily make good games. Hack is an apt description.

It’s unfortunate that Kojima expresses himself through gaming. Movies, Tv series or books would be infinitely better medium for him.

Reviews for DS are hilarious though. Even the ones that rate it highly say the actual gameplay is bad. Then gold like these pop up. :joy:

"Hideo Kojima once made a famous analogy to steak. He said the Playstation 3 was like a steak you can have at a fancy restaurant, the Xbox 360 was like a steak you can eat at a friend’s house and the Nintendo Wii was like a steak you make yourself at home.

With Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima has finally made a game that is like eating 60 pounds of vegetables. At gunpoint. Does a silky slab of meat and triumphant pile of potatoes await afterward? I won’t say."

This is old. Was posted and last updated nesr the beginning of Oct. Blizzard issued ‘please don’t stop buying our games’ apology at blizzcon.

also…an interview

…with Lilith staring into your very soul in the thumbnail.

Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 are a ways out…Blizzard says they don’t know when they will be released.

So these games will def be cross gen.

Kojima explains why he wants to make something that is not easy to digest

Ahh gotcha.

I like how Lilith was just a copy paste of another boss and now she comes into the story looking crazy as fuck.

All the DS reviews make sense to me. Though I don’t know why some still give it such a high score.

MGS4 was my first Kojima game that I bought and finished. If it wasn’t for the MGS gameplay, I would’ve hated the game because the cutscenes were like an hour each. I imagine DS is the same, but instead of MGS gameplay, it’s just walking.

Like wtf… so many reviews say “It’s not a fun game… but it’s important blah blah blah.”

Just make a netflix series.

Haha man the environments look insane. It’s like DOOM 2016 levels of detail. It makes PoE, Grim Dawn and D3 look like PS2 games in comparison.

Again, I don’t know how this is going to be a current-gen game. I could see it being cross-gen with them dropping support for the PS4/Xbone versions pretty quickly, just like they did with the PS3/360 ports of D3. They released the expack but it never got any of the extra content after that IIRC.

-Runewords and runes are back
-PvP(thank god, Grim Dawn/PoE/D3 all have non-existent to garbage PvP)
-SKILL TREES

I care man. Others do too, or else they wouldn’t have complained about things like Azmodan “calling” you in D3 every 2 minutes in Act III to talk the cheesiest shit.

D3 dropped the ball on story of the game big time, but I think they know this. Did you ever watch the Diablo 2 “movie” I linked a few months back? It’s the same quality as the D4 cinematic trailer, but like ~30ish minutes of it:

I put this story right up there with the best of the best in video games. :star_struck:

The game should be bleak. The atmosphere should be oppressive as hell. Have the entire game make you feel like you’re in the Tower of Latria from Demon’s Souls. :star_struck:
