Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

I donā€™t need to deep dive into why melee players donā€™t play anything besides melee when it can be boiled down to simply ā€œThey donā€™t want toā€.

I can throw around insults and memes and shit all day but thats grown tiresome.

Melee is still played at a competitive level almost 20 years later for a reason. Itā€™s a good game. Itā€™s just the player base isnā€™t the best. Attitude wise.

This is an interesting topic. The video goes into how much Chinese censorship is effecting games.

ah, I see that someone else out there asked the question I was thinking ofā€¦ yes, Warhammer Chaosbane will indeed be playable offline, unlike that other one that was released more recently.

Crackdown 3 is on sale for 30 bucks now ā€”from what Iā€™ve seen of this game that should just be the normal price, reallyā€¦the game looks like they couldā€™ve just called it ā€œCrackdown HD Remakeā€ā€¦but actuallyā€”in the user reviews I was checking just now----they actually downgraded it from 4-player co-op to just 2?! I donā€™t recall if the first one had 4 players but I remember for sure that part 2 had thatā€¦thatā€™s sad when a new game in a series actually goes backwards in some way.

*Dead Cellsā€”yeah, so I finally dropped back down to just ā€œHardā€ difficulty so I could actually have fun and actually make progress in my runs now. On Very Hard 2-boss cell difficulty I was consistently barely able to even reach the first damn boss, manā€¦and to think this is apparently ā€œeasierā€ than before the patch?! The game is borderline impossible on that setting. (and oddly enough; still itā€™s usually ā€œfairā€. Very few games in history have achieved this balance of high difficulty without feeling like itā€™s cheap bullshit 99% of the time.)

MvC2 is a good game and you dont see unwashed degenerates claiming for a bygone era that will never return. Melee is trash and it way over stayed its welcome

One of these reasons is because they were invited to Evo some odd years ago. People kept coming, as did more sponsors. So it stayed. It just got to the point, like the generation before (ST, 3S, MvC2) that lugging around old systems and CRTā€™s just werenā€™t worth it anymore so evo wiped their hands of it.

Also most the FGC is money and sponsor oriented now. Marvel 2 was dwindling and on its last legs until it was finally replaced by 3. No one is going to sponsor you for playing an almost 20 year game if thereā€™s no money to be made in it.

Thereā€™s still money to be made in Melee. Sponsors and huge turn outs to any major that hosts it prove that.

The player base is still huge and the skill ceiling for Melee is very high which is why so many people still play it. Even with the tops being pretty much cemented their order always changes because people are still discovering new shit.

Yeah a lot of the community may suck for the most part but the game is good. Not intentionally, most fighting games arenā€™t. It just ended up that way.

I donā€™t play melee because itā€™s just not my bag. But I donā€™t think itā€™s a bad game by any means.

Yeah, China and media going to it or helped produced by it can be problematic.

I donā€™t think it is thought police bad but it isnā€™t a long walk from where they are now. And frankly there is no way to stop it given the country is a powerhouse economically and if their companies want to pay developers to make games a certain way you canā€™t stop them short of becoming just like the Chinese government. Weird place to be unless you are a company like Google or Facebook who are powerful enough to be able to turn down China money (but will still take it or try because investor greed is Neverending), you could be costing yourself valuable income to keep the doors open in the name of ethics or politics.

The issue I have with all the anti-China propaganda going on in gaming right now is people seem to forget that American has the same type of influence on foreign markets. Itā€™s a bit hypocritical to get triggered by companies pandering to China but think itā€™s a-okay when the campanies pander to the US market. Companies go where the money is.

Are there any cool games for PlayStation that are like an evolution of old-school Gauntlet, but where you can build a character and level up and collect loot, and explore dungeons and shit with multiplayer co-op, killing the fuck out of all the fuckers with, like, isometric camera perspective?

Up until the isometric perspective part that fits Dragonā€™s Crown. More of a side scrolling beatemup but still.

Just watched a video. That game looks fun!

sheeeeeit, Dragonā€™s Crown is legendary. I recently charged up my Vita again just to play that and Soul Sacrifice Delta again.

Vampyr - so awesome, returning to this oneā€¦ I checked up on a person I turned earlier to see how this one is adjusting to life as a ā€œnewbornā€ vamp. Thereā€™s another character towards the end of the game you can turn out of spite tooā€¦itā€™s quite satisfying. There is another ā€œprogenyā€ out there too, though unfortunately I donā€™t think I can check up on himā€¦that one was at the behest of the Ascalon Club (kind of a fraternal order/clique of elite vampires).

One thing I wouldā€™ve liked a bit more is if you had the freedom to just turn anyone, or at least most people you meetā€¦eventually becoming the ā€œsireā€ of a whole legion of new vampiresā€¦a clan. In a sequel, Iā€™d definitely write in all these newborns to show up with Jonathan again as alliesā€¦just off the top of my head Iā€™d do the different timeline thing for sureā€”say weā€™re now following the adventures of Jonathan in 1940s or 1950s America, and of course Jonathan and his progeny naturally still look the same as they did back in 1918 from part 1ā€¦but now theyā€™d function as much more experienced, more powerful vamps.

I barely started Dragonā€™s Crown on PS3 and then the PS4 version was announced. I should get that one.

Ok, so after looking around a bit, I decided to download Path of Exile. Apparently itā€™s pretty complicated, though, as far as character builds. Iā€™d like to start out with a Ranger, but Iā€™m not sure how beginner friendly that class is.

Any tips?

@Sonicabid

Hiding from Rhyno in Spiderman PS4 was terrifyingā€¦sheesh

Try Torchlight 2.

Dragonā€™s Crown is dope. It also has cross-play so I was able to play it with folk on PS3.

Path of Exile is complicated and optimized like shit. But, it can be fun.

@Million-X I just started playing Soul Sacrifice Delta. Cool game so far.

Nine Parchments, Wizard of Legend and while technical in some aspects, Diablo 3.

Been meaning to get back into Dragon Crown myself. Its fun to play on your own but you can clearly feel how empty it is without a squad of peeps to crawl thru the dungeons.

So I wonder if the leak about the PS5 price is intentional.
Sony before allowed leaks to bait Microsoft into doing stupid stuff with the Xbox.
