JRPGs did not do well before FFVII. It was the first big JRPG hit. After FFVII, publishers started localizing JRPGs
Word. As someone who loved JRPGs for SNES and earlier, I never really paid attention to the commercial success of my favorite games. I do remember the massive hype surrounding FFVII, though, mostly due to 3D polygons and cinematic cut scenes.
Ironically, I never completed FFVII because I kept losing interest and thought it looked terrible compared to sprite-based RPGs on the 16 bit systems. It kinda turned me away from JRPGs.
You wonât get a disagreement with me on the quality of FFVII. I consider it the most overrated game of all time. However, I did notice how JRPGs sold back then. I kept noticing all these cool JRPGs that never got localized. Final Fantasy V, Tales of Phantasia, and Terranigma immediately come to mind.

Some one reanimated/remastered Monty Oumâs Haloid and did a REALLY good job
It did.
It was.
Final Fantasy VII was Beyond the Beyond levels of bad, but for infinitely many more reasons than that simple sad sack of sprites had to its name.
If Square Enix ever remastered any of their classic 16bit games again, I would hope they take the Octopath Traveler route given their attempts on mobile and the 3D attempt with the Secret of Mana all underwhelmed.
I pretty much concur, and said as much in my posts.
I want better sprites, though.
So Janina Javankar may have just accidentally confirmed that Horizon 2 is in the works (not that this is any surprise).
True Octopath went too retro as most IMO when it comes to sprites and how limited they were. But I also chalk it up to the project being on a limited budget compared to a FF or other major IP Square Enix could do just like the previously mentioned bad mobile/PC ports.
Finished mega man x command mission last night. It was a decent first attempt at an turn based rpg with some twists and laughable voice acting.I wish the game had done better as the x series is perfect for side stories in a post sigma world.
All their 16 and 8 bit games aged really well compared to their PS1 offerings, especially FF7.
I donât think FF4, FF5, FF6, or Chronotrigger needs Remakes at all.
Chronotrigger can gain the Animated Cut scenes from the PS1 version and it would not hurt a thing.
And I donât mind the rest of the Square and Enix library getting that treatment, but donât fuck with the graphics.
Like I really am not impressed with their graphical overhaul of Secret of Mana.
What I really want is Square to finally release an English language version of
Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2 in the west. Donât try to improve the graphics or change up anything. Leave it as is but in English. Hell hire the fan translators of the rom, as they did a descent job
huh, Frostpunk getting released on PS4 ⌠If you guys havenât played it, youâre doing yourselves a disservice. Support 11-bit Studios and buy this plz.
They turned kitana in to an absolute babe.
Where dem tittays at though?
Right. Outside of Jade and Cetrion all the women have A cups. Whatâs up with that?
Gotta make sure to not offend the women who donât have em ya know?
Cassie looks like Alexa Bliss. Wtf.
Kitana just hopskipped over Jade in the Damn She FINE!!! category.
