Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

PlayStation classics are going for as low as $30 on eBay.

Still not worth it, imo.

I mean, the anime does it just fine lol.

Yeah but this is live action.

Youā€™re literally catching demons in control of the elements and forcing them to do your bidding.

Kinda goes with the territory.

Pokemon Company been pulling it off just fine across multiple mediums for close to 30 years.

Uncanny Valley all up in that ish. I think they look fine, but I know why theyā€™re unsettling to some people.

PokĆ©mon is a lot more than just battling. Itā€™s more about that worlds society coexisting with creatures they know some about or next to little about.

Some choose to use them for domestic reasons.
Some use them for medical reasons.
Some choose to use them for labor reasons.
Some choose them just for companionship
Some use them for various competitions like battling, breeding contests or battling.
All of which theyā€™ve added into the games in some regard.

A lot of the manga arcs and the Black/White series of games specifically touch upon all these aspects too. The main ā€œvillainā€ of the Black and White series, N actually tries to stop the world from using PokĆ©mon like weapons. The anime touches on all these things too. Ashā€™s goal is to become the best PokĆ©mon trainer this is true but he tries to accomplish this by more than just battling but by building bonds and friendship with his PokĆ©mon. Like the Charizard arc in the anime is awesome because it shows how much trainers and PokĆ©mon reply on each other and how deep their relationships go.

Also, Most of his companions throughout the arcs and most people he meets outside of gym leaders, team rocket and that arcs rival have very little to do with the battling aspect of the PokƩmon world.

Like theyā€™ve made it a much broader world than just battling. I mean Rhyme City (the city Detective Pikachu is based on) is a celebration of PokĆ©mon and Humans living amongst each other

thatā€™s fine, but its still a cartoon about glorified dog fighting.

Yeah but even with live action they didnā€™t have to do it that way, it was just their aesthetic choice to make it how it is.

But at the end of the day Pokemon is pretty much this

Just swap out knife wielding moneys for as Pertho put it, Deamons with control of the very Elements.

Made all Weeaboo and cute so they can sell it to children. Add a lot of fluff and charm so parents donā€™t catch on right away.

Satoshi Tajiri straight up based the collecting and fighting of Pokemon from real life Beetle Fights
Which is a serious thing in Japan apparently

The problem is that a lot of these animals are furry but you donā€™t understand them as such necessarily. They donā€™t really do a lot of high detailed fur. So sure, Pikachu has fur but itā€™s easy to forget its basically a maniacal rat that shoots lightning.

People took a dump on the Christopher Robin movie, but Pooh bear and the cast looked amazing in motion. Theyā€™re all supposed to be stuffed animals and they looked like it.

Still a cartoon about dog fighting though. :man_shrugging:

Sure, so they didnā€™t have to go for a ā€œrealisticā€ look. Thereā€™s not really any reason they canā€™t go for a more cartoon-y look except that they just donā€™t want to, which is their choice of course.

That doesnā€™t matter to my point, because the anime did a more cartoon-y look just fine. Itā€™s still an artistic decision. Itā€™s not impossible to mix live action with a cartoon-y style, it was just a choice they made.

Problem is that once you go to a live action movie, your brain is going to start looking at all the interactions differently. Shit man, they were snuffing cartoons in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and that was cold AF.

Go back to the scene where he dips the tiny cartoon in the fluid. They call it MUUUUUUUUUUUUURDEEEEEEEEER.

Hard to say on the styles of the models used. Could be that more cartoony ones looked too out of place so they had to change them and add a bit of realism to the pokemon. Hard to accept, but we may be looking at the best versions now with all their creepy glory and dog fighting fiction.

Iā€™m not going to lie, all I care about is making my minions fight for my amusement. I donā€™t care about the inter-species breeding or whatever. Just the fighting.

Vampyr sold 1 million (I wonder how long did that take thoughā€¦? The game was released June of last year.)

Iā€™m hoping a sequel becomes a reality some day in the near futureā€¦I am not sure which I would preferā€”continuing the adventures of Dr. Reid or have him be a side character with a newer vamp being the starā€¦

in terms of the business aspect of it all, it would probably be smarter to continue a series with 1 main character(s) though. Usually that helps with establishing a certain brandā€¦yeah, Iā€™d continue with Dr. Reid perhaps in another time period. Despite a few nitpicks, overall I think they nailed it and created the vampire game Iā€™ve always dreamed of playing, ever since I was a kid watching things like The Lost Boys and Fright Night over and over.

That is hillarious. I am still more interested in the Sonic film than the Pokemon one.

ā€¦ok Iā€™ll bite. Why?

For anyone whoā€™s played Spider-Man PS4,

Iā€™m having trouble catching Shocker . This is my first encounter with him(He bursts out of a green building).
Iā€™m web swinging and using r2 to run up certain building but is there an attack Iā€™m supposed to do or a certain move to trigger an cutscene?

Thanks.

Best part is that itā€™s going to get more exposure once itā€™s release on Switch later this year (which youā€™ve already said youā€™re going to double dip on)

I have no interest in the game. Vampires just arenā€™t my thing. That said, I love your passion for it and Iā€™m happy itā€™s doing well. Hope the momentum keeps going and they do get a sequel. :crossed_fingers:

heh, sheeeeit as crazy as it soundsā€¦ Iā€™m most likely triple-dipping on that shit, man. Whenever I get PS4 (Iā€™ve procrastinated on that forever) I intend to get it there too. This game has also inspired me a bit with various ideas for whenever I finally stop being lazy and get crazkinā€™ on creating my own game (yep, a supernatural/monsters kind of deal that will involve vamps, werewolves, witches/warlocks, wraiths, doppelgangers, etc.)

ā€œNex Machinaā€ is another one I need to get on ps4 once I have the systemā€¦ I got it on pc but it barely runs worth a damn on my laptop.
