Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

Yeah. Try something even remotely like this at evo and you’ll be disqualified. Remember what happened with Captain Zach and whoever he was facing (the name escapes me) during Sm4sh finals? They were threatened with forfeit of their match due to stalling. It was grand finals.

This would just make the game look extremely boring, make the players and community look bad and over all shitty to the eyes of casuals or anyone even remotely interested.

Here’s your problem.

There’s just no way anyone can claim that is their favorite match ever, unless it’s in a troll job way, which is also acceptable.

Just not possible.

I can’t fucking wait to play with all the new characters but Darli Dagger is that bitch.

This is an insanely stupid counter point. It’s just the most recent example and is relatable to that video. If anyone even remotely tries that shit at evo in any game they should be booed off the stage and threatened to have their match forfeited if they don’t actually play the game.

Evo is the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. Do you really want a game series you love to be represented that way? Fucking please.

sheeeeit, with all this time off…it’s surprising I haven’t really played much… I got out Quantum Break and some others I haven’t finished…heh, I forgot that I uninstalled that, actually…because it took up a ridiculous amount of space on the hdd… but yeah I’m on to play that next. I remember the little bit I played of it at the time being fun and it was an interesting concept with the time-travel shenanigans…sheeeeit, after that I may put Arkham Knight back on too… I also never finished that.

The Anthem Report– I was already laughing to myself thinking —heh, they’re going to update the store again this morning…BET ya it will be emotes again. They actually put 2 armor packs up though!!! :open_mouth: I couldn’t believe it but there it was…so happy my assumption was wrong this time…and at least 1 of them looked good enough; I had 140k+ coin so I finally had something to spend on and got it; the new Ranger… the helmet and arms look nice so I mainly got the pack for those pieces.

Do the right thing Marvelous and Nintendo. Release this shit in the west. It’s not fair if Europe gets it but we don’t.

The point is that Smash players are quick to boo and ask to ban anything that doesn’t make their game fit into their ideal vision of Smash.

In any case, that match up is an outlier, just Enza being able to one touch Mina, or any other percieved “jank” is an outlier.

A lot of the point is more about how SamSho isn’t as tech heavy as modern fighters and how it allows for the kind of old school defensive style that modern games discourage. This is a game for the real turtles, like old school Justin, or the Eddie Lee (aka the King of Lame, according to Justin, which says a lot), or old school Ricki. This is a game for the Sirlins who’re happy to sit outside poke range and just keep using that one normal (speaking of which, that’s one match up where one character can’t really do anything, anything Chun does gets stuffed by Rose’s wall of low strongs in A2).

It’s a style a lot of us older player miss. Yet at the same time it’s not the only style, but it’s still one of the stronger ones.

Can’t you just import the Euro version?

I just finished the Messenger:

  1. Gameplay/execution wise was a solid platformer with a good balance of secrets, upgrades and new mechanics.
  2. IMO my biggest gripe of the game is the dialogue, it was bad because every single NPC acted as if they were Deadpool, and I think that’s unfortunate because the game had an interesting story plot twist. They just way too hard to be funny which made the humor seem like a slew of bad dad jokes.

YYYYEEEEESSSS

amazing news.

Bullshit. Purposely sandbagging and stalling would be booed in any game. Which is what that video is doing that you’re trying to rationalize.

I’m well aware of defensive gameplay and that certain games are based around defensive game play. But you trying to rationalize samurai shodown as being “down-back the game” and that it needs to be played as such. Crowds, people watching on stream and potential players aren’t going to be interested in that, the majority of them anyways.

Promoting and encouraging Niche gameplay in an even nicheier title is just asking your game to fail. Because to a lot of people it’s just going to come ass stalling.

I just finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider yesterday.
Main campaign took 14 hrs approx.

Pros:

Great environmental graphics and design of the areas

Fun puzzles and platforming sections

The flashback level was a nice change of pace.

Final boss battle

Cons

IMO, The amount of combat relative to platforming/explorations is probably the least compared to TR 2013 and Rise of TR. Id say this has 70 % exploration/jumping and 30 % action.
TR 2013 - 70 action/30 exploration
Rise of TR - almost 50/50

The controls are slightly worse compared to previous games. Changing between the different types of arrows used to be just pressing up IIRC and now its different.

The flashlight is automatically turned on by the game, but sometimes it is off when you really need it and on when you don’t

Compared to the previous ones, your carrying capacity is MUCH less esp for herbs and stuff.

There are sections in the game where you lose all your weapons and are forced to just do stealth kills for long stretches. Whats even funnier is that you are against military/mercenaries with big guns yet you cant use them even after defeating them.
I dont mind some stealth but its funny that there are 3 slots for firearms and you dont use them for long stretches of the game

–The melee combat through all three games is laughable. Most weapons are good for distance but in some times when they get close, you just have the ungainly axe swing that takes a long time to recover/

Most of the supporting characters are not memorable. I played TR 2013 then all 5 Uncharted games and then Rise and Shadow. Jonah is bland as fuck. Except for one Native american character, it’s the same with your other allies. Even the main villain has a big revelation about your past and it just falls flat. The second in command of the villains is built up to be a big threat/asshole in mid point and yet you dont EVEN fight him. Lame.

There are many options for skill tree leveling up but its funny bc so many are combat based and you barely do combat. You could just play through using only a few skill point upgrades.

I stll liked the game, but I didnt feel the same excitement. I really liked the previous two TR reboot games. I have never played the original 90’s-2000 games so I cant compare.
I think they should wait a bit and retool their ideas before doing another game

Overall: 7.5/10

But in the FGC (not in Smash), we wouldn’t have really discouraged it anyway. You think Justin, or FChamp, or ChrisG give a fuck when people get mad at them playing defensively.

I never said it was “down-back the game”. All I said was that classic turtling, a style you don’t really see anymore in this time of set-play and 50-50s, is very viable in the game.

And even then there’s still that kind of stuff in the game - to a point.

At the same time, it’s this line of thinking - of making a game hype to watch via offensive, reset heavy, play that doesn’t really have much neutral - that got us SF5.

Besides, getting people to actually buy and play the game is more important than stream views. Heck, the game’s more fundamentally focused style has already gotten a lot of people, including a lot of casual fighting game players, interested in picking it up.

Picking it up and actually learning it are two different things. Tons of people “play” smash, a lot of people “play” Mortal Kombat. A lot of people “play” street fighter. A lot of people “play” fortnite or call of duty or overwatch. Very few actually learn it.

If the learning curvature of a game is down-back and random pokes, a lot of people aren’t going to want to play it. Cause that shit is boring. Can it be tense? Sure. Under the right circumstances. Those aren’t going to be met every single time in SamSho though.

I hope the game does well. I hope any fighting game does welll because it’s such a niche market. But like…how the game is perceived is a huge part of why people pick games up.

Tell that to FGC Twitter where everyone is looking forward to it.

@Laban actually mentioned something interesting about this. Part of the interest is because a lot of players see it as the closest thing to the kind of game they want Street Fighter to be. Basically, it’s the closest we have to the “idealized SF game design of strong ground game based around whiff punish and anti-air”.

Turtling implies some sort of an offense on the part of the other player.

Two players downbacking for 50 seconds isn’t playing a fighting game.

It is synchronized snoring.

I just preordered. Their shipping costs suck. I paid almost $7 and they didn’t even tell me the shipping speed.

Oh well. I’d rather pay almost $50 for a physical copy than $40 for a digital.

Edit: fucking xseed. They don’t even send you confirmation emails about your order. I have a separate folder in my email to keep track of all my preorders I make so I know roughly if not exactly when that money will be taken out of my account. Them not sending one is already making me uneasy.

The new FGC is hype for anything for a lukewarm minute.
