Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

Thus the quotations.

How many switch games are there that isn’t playable in portable mode?

That is nasty. Who the hell would buy that?

P.S. Nintendo Lite half hour battery boost is hilarious as a selling point. Considering the downgrades it would probably be better to buy a Nintendo Switch bundle during Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales and get all of the removed features.

The additional battery life is likely from a die shrink. The Tegra X1 in the Switch is 20nm, Nvidia’s other GPUs have been at 12nm for some time now. A 12nm X1 would be less power hungry and cheaper since they’d be able to get more chips from each wafer.

The GameSpot article about Lite mentioned a “more efficient processor”

As an addendum to my previous post, if they just did a die shrink to 12nm, they could do a Switch Pro and Switch Lite on the same chipset. The Lite could be passively cooled. The Pro could be actively cooled like the current Switch but clocked significantly higher and maintain the current battery life.

The Lite should be compatible with any games that aren’t VR. They said in the video any games that require you to play with motion will just require syncing Joy Cons.

They went the 2DS route instead of the New 3DS route.

The “Switch Pro” is still going to happen. It just won’t be anytime soon. Probably within the next two years. They want to give the standard and lite versions room to breath. Especially the lite model. There’s a lot of potential system sellers coming out for switch within the next 9 months or so. It would be bad for them to try to push another version of their hardware this soon.

sheeeiiittt, I’m most likely getting it at some point, as my newer “backup” Switch.

Good riddance to the rumble feature, btw… I haven’t cared about that shit in any system/controller since the first Playstation (only the first Metal Gear Solid had interesting use of it, imo)… I always end up turning that feature off if possible.

The only gripe so far I have is the screen being slightly smaller…though it has to be that way of course since they made this system body smaller…and a really minor complaint is the array of colors— only 3 at the start? What happened to the days when Nintendo would have a dozen colors and designs for everything? It’s especially odd they don’t have a red one, considering that’s like the main color that comes to mind for the mascot character Mario. I’d go for a dark blue, black or white one.

That statement is vague, as it does not say how it’s more efficient. It’s as Darc_Requium said, smaller die size meaning it uses less electricity to do the same job.

I’ve been looking at info all morning and afternoon long about compatibility with the Switch Lite. The price is very good at $200, and you can pair Joycons or a Pro Controller to work with the few games that won’t work by default on the system in handheld mode. There’s also a MicroSD storage slot on deck as well, with probably the same capacity restrictions as the main SKU (512gb to 1TB Max). Where this works for me presently is when the missus has taken over the TV for the evening to watch Hulu/Netflix and is winding down for bed. Our main TV has all three HDMI spots taken by my 4K consoles and her PC. I am gonna remain cautiously optimistic that Nintendo will do some sort of price cut on the main Switch SKU for the holidays this year however.

This is but one of many options I am pursuing for the holidays this year.

Well they also supposed to release a “Pro” version as well.

but the Pro model isn’t coming this year apparently. They gotta let the main SKU and the Lite SKU cook.

The Lite version might be the perfect, practice machine for fighting games at tournaments since it has a proper d-pad. Now if only it got more decent ports aside from MK11 (and hopefully, SamSho).

Yeah, if the Lite is launching in November, a Pro version (as per the WSJ article from about a month ago) definitely won’t come until late 2020 at the earliest. But then they might face tough competition as everybody will be riding the PS5 and Xbox Two hype wave

Also it’s weird that the Lite reveal literally came out of nowhere precisely a month after E3 2019, you’d think they would dedicate time to such an important announcement, especially at an event where one of their major competitors was completely absent from the showfloor

the Pokemon model is launching in November. The remainder will be available 20th September.

Lite launches 9/20. Sword Shield Edition launches 11/8.

Tried looking at the source to confirm what gx is saying but can’t find it and now I gotta go back to work.
