It matters because it stops any decent discussions from happening, and when the same topic is repeated over and over you’ve heard all of the opinions of the subject from the same posters already a 100x.

Edit: perhaps we should try and lay down what exactly a good ost even is for a game. Just having catchy tunes I can hum really isn’t where my standards lay. Its only a fraction of what I think makes a good sound track. Like I think the first 4 RE games have fantastic sound tracks. I never fucking hum them tho.
Even within my list of games that have good music last gen…they’re still mostly forgettable or meh tracks.
Castlevania PoR and Smash would be the only ones with a majority of good music.

Skyrim has a couple tracks…tooth and claw.

I’m playing Bloodstained, and I’m hoping that adds to this list.
Well, that’s basically my original point. If you can’t remember it, then it’s not good. Even if it matches the mood, or game perfectly. It may add to that playthrough but didn’t do anything else. I play WRPG’s that’s basically what all that music is.
I believe that gives us an understanding of where I come from.
Also…good GAME music will be good without the context of playing the game. Sounds like your RE4 tracks, would need the game. If you get what I’m saying.

Yea see that’s where we are hella disagreeing. A games music being good only with the game is actually an example of AMAZING musical work. The whole point of the track is to compliment the game, not your commute to work.
You’re not interested in game music and how it’s good for the game. You’re just interested in if it’s an ear worm or not. That’s super shallow and discounting the hard work that went into making that shit fit and compliment the experience of playing the game. If the tune works with just anything all the time it’s generally, not always, but generally a very boring basic and predictable tune. That’s why it fits with everything. Its homogenous.
