Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

Picture perfect representation.

You bought so you’re part of it. But to Sakurai it very much is that Smash is a game about experience more than anything else. Think he wanted the game to be one where you got to have fun unlocking new toys as you played regularly. You don’t have to do the crazy modes from Melee, just play regularly and then more of the character select screen opens up as you do so.

I’m not defending it, just saying that it feels like its what he was aiming at.

I didn’t like doing it neither. I did it twice over since I had to unlock the characters on my nephew’s profile. I only play it when he comes over.

It’s deffinitly what he was aiming for he just way over did it. Only 8 people initially killed the party. Its just too much.

The other issue is that so far the multiplayer the only fun part so you either deal with the slow unlocks that come with multi, or spend hours playing not fun modes to unlock shit for the fun mode. And that’s the real issue. Unlocking characters is annoying but I get it. The problem is that unlocking then isn’t fun. The modes that arent just multiplayer Smash are not fun. So you spend a bunch of time doing shit that’s fun to get the shit you want for the mode that is fun.

Melee singlet player content was fun. It was simple, and short, and to the point and it was a fun little way to experience the game in other ways. Ultimates other nodes aren’t fun and it’s Adventure mode is anti fun. Its a decent idea to give the player strange match ups with unique rules but most of the time the rules don’t seem to matter much, and the matches up so far have been super fucking lame. 3 King Decade’s spamming down smashes is fun, creative, clever or any positive words I could thibk of. Its just lazy and boring and feels like it was done in 5 minutes to try and fill out this board game they created so you have 70+ dumb shits to fight.

It’s not a game mode, it’s just filler to take up your time and feel like you are doing something. Feels like a mode for people with no friends lol.

Edit: Oh and worst of all you have to beat the fighter to unlock them so if you lose for some reason you have to hope they randomly come up again. They don’t just unlock.

The only bright side of backing is that I got a copy of the 8bit game they released for free to backers, which was hilariously better than mm9.

Legit forgot this was a thing that was announced

ha, sheeeeeittttt,

it’s kind of a sad state of affairs to me that the unlocks in Smash are a rarity these days. Most games don’t have shit to unlock anymore, and I hate that…it’s because gaming companies have realized—“hey why have this thing in there as an ‘unlock’ if we can just SELL it later as DLC?!” so they go that route…that is what happened to cool unlockable shit. In most games now, you beat the game or hit all kinds of milestones and great accomplishments…for nothing. Because the things that would’ve been rewards for certain milestones back in the day are now sold to ya later as “extra” content.

…but yeah I enjoyed unlocking that giant roster. It would’ve sapped some of the fun out of it to me if all of them were immediately playable. I was one of those sick bastards that enjoyed unlocking all the characters in MvC2 back then too

Grinding for unlocking content is only bad if you’re not having fun. Smash has this issue but it’s a matter of what you find fun

brofist I unlocked everything for MvC2 on DC. Good times.

I thought I would’ve unlocked every stage in SFV since I’m not paying for them, but nope…don’t play it consistently, and I like the game.

I remember MVC2 in my local arcade back in the day. We all worked really hard to unlock characters lol. Good times.

I personally don’t mind having to unlock stuff like fighters, stages, or costumes so long as the grind is appropriate. If it’s clear that a dev would rather you buy the unlocks instead of getting it for free then the path to the unlocks aren’t going to be anywhere near enjoyable. If Sakurai did did the grind like SFV did for unlocks then I’d have given up on it. But the game was set up that you were unlocking a character roughly every 8-10 minutes which I can easily deal with. Playing that game non stop for a and you can potentially get everyone unlocked. God forbid if I ever have to unlock the characters in Melee ever again.

You can actually run it back with them. In one of the game modes it lets you challenge the people you’ve lost to.

Don’t own it so I can’t give you directions to it.

You can challenge the characters that beat you in challengers approach. You’ll find it in the game’s & more menu.

Short, cute nonsense Driven Metroid style game. Not bad for the price if you are a fan of the Metroid style platformer and silly sci fi stories. Also pets, a love of pets also helps the enjoyment of the game but it isn’t required.

They don’t even have to go that far. Capcom is only a train ride away in Osaka, and they have their shit together for MonHun.

Right on man. Good chance I’ll scoop it up. Been hearing good things.

Don’t know for certain about the console versions, but the PC Castlevania and contra collections got the Japanese version patches. I believe the controls can be remapped now as well.
