Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

I have a PS4, Switch and gaming PC. The PC is my primary gaming platform of the three. I like the customization and performance I get from PC compared to consoles. I would get the majority of my games on it. My PS4 is for exclusives, fighting games and games that have trash PC ports. I have a Switch for any game I would be interested to play on the go. It’s usually my go to machine for indie games.

Wait? Basing my judgement of the yet release TEOU2 on how the first game is?

Sounds reasonable to me.

I console game exclusively…I haven’t pc gamed in quite some time. I don’t really have a ‘focus’ per say as any console I’m playing on pertains to releases and what’s out. I take my Switch just abou everywhere with me so I’m generally consistently playing it there are going to be periods that I’m more focused on my PS4, when DMC4, KH3, and MK11 were released I was heavily focused on those games more than anything. If it’s a game that I think I would rather prefer on the go and the performance isn’t horrible then there’s a high chance I might buy it for Switch instead. That’s kind of my issue with Bloodstained at the moment. I can deal with 30fps and the ability to take it with me but I’m on the fence of sacrificing the 60fps.

Then there things genres that I’ll more than likely play on certain platforms than others. Most of my fighting games are on PS4 since my stick is on that. Indies and smaller digital games I’m more likely to buy on Switch. Really a case by case basis on this.

My personal problem is there’s so many games I want to play and try out and I don’t have the time to do that which is even more painful since I’ll play just about anything cept for sports titles (unless its arcade sports).

Re Juggling Multiple Consoles: I don’t PC game. I’ve never liked the idea of it. Most “Pc exclusives” don’t really interest me either. I have steam but I only have like…12 games maybe? Most of them I never even played. Just felt like the thing to do at the time. The most PC gaming I’ve ever done is I played MapleStory online when it was still in beta for about 6 months. Only played cause my friends begged me to. I played Ragnarok Online for about a year because my friend ran one of the biggest fan servers for the game. I said no initially but I found the game genuinely fun. Though that could of been cause he gave me admin tools to fuck with people. And I played WoW collectively for about 2 months and absolutely hated it.

When it comes to consoles though I buy is almost always based on the content they provide. It’s why I only bought Nintendo and Sony this time around. M$ provided next to nothing that was worth the at the time $400 investment. They have Backwards Compatibility now but that isn’t worth $250-400 price range to me. I’d rather just pay $60-$80 for a 360 and play them that way.

Last gen though I bought a 360 first. A lot of reasons when into that. Mainly at the time the 360 ports of multi-plat games were superior. Their XBLA catalog was also leaps and bounds better than PSN due to their contract with SNK, Behemoth Games and several other up and coming studios. Cost also played a huge factor. I didn’t buy one until they fixed the RRoD issues though.

Then all the sudden Sony decided to wake the fuck up and produce amazing exclusive after amazing exclusive and they patched their once inferior ports. Also the slim model coming out along with the significant price drop that came with it was a huge selling point. Once I got my PS3 outside of a few titles I liked to play my 360 just collected dust. I pretty much only played my PS3 until I finally bought myself a Wii a few months later. Had wanted one since it’s launch just never had the money for various reasons. But when I did finally buy one the Wii and PS3 were my main gaming consoles.

I also look for potential in the console. Which is why I bought Wii U and Switch at launch date. I thought the potential for the Wii U was huge. And while it did give us some great titles, genre defining games and modern day classics. It fell short in almost every regard.

With the Switch though? This is probably one of my favorite system purchases since the PS2. As soon as they announced it and gave us a brief glimpse of what they were doing I was like “fuck. Nintendo is about the change the game again”

From Wii U gems getting the second chance and exposure they deserved to all the original content they’ve created. It’s been a great system and we’re only 2 1/2 years into its life cycle. I’ve bought more games on the Switch in 2 1/2 years than I have PS4 games in the 6 years it’s been out. I’m including digital in that was well.

Rocket League.

I have PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and Switch.

It’s pretty obvious when games will be better on Switch and on the go, and things I can play while traveling in an airplane. Things that are quick to pick up and play. Dead Cells is a perfect example of a game that is best on Switch. Their indie library is also great and there are a lot of sales. I have quite a few $5-$15 games on Switch that are a few hours long, and recently I’ve really enjoyed those types of games.

Most games that are performant games and are on both X1 and PS4 I will get on X1 because I like the controller better on X1 and the performance between X1X and PS4 Pro is pretty negligible.

Exclusives are pretty obvious.

Recently I’ve really only been playing PSVR and Switch though, for like the past 1.5 to 2 years, with the exception of God of War on PS4 last year and Resident Evil 2 remake on Xbox One.

Apparently Ubisoft is making their own version of Rocket League called Roller Champions. It’s supposed to play very similar but it’s roller derby themed. If the rumors and various leaks are true it’s going to be announced at E3.

Might end up being a great alternative once RL goes to Epic exclusively?

If they can get the physics right, yeah. But I’m pretty hardcore about my RL.

RL going to Epic is a death sentence

:woman_shrugging:t3: Company wanted money. Epic provided said money. Be mad at them not Epic.

Also.

What about Rocket League? It looks fun. I’ve thought about buying it…just never did cause of playing something else or something else that was higher on the list to play.

Mad? Why would I be mad.
They are not getting my money anyways.
Unless someone gives me a free key for steam, GOG or PSN, I do not want Rocket League

Not necessarily. I do have mixed feelings about it, but apparently the same game developers will still be involved. And there is no plan (yet) of it leaving Steam. Numbers show the vast majority of players are in PS4 right now anyway. My hope is that with more financial backing, they’ll be able to add more content- game modes (volleyball??), arenas, etc.

It’s only the single greatest game ever made this generation! Well, it’s my favorite. Besides Mario.

But seriously, it’s fun as hell!

From what I read when Epic bought Psyonix is that even though it will be an EGS exclusive part of the deal was still letting them release updates/patches/dlc for all the platforms it’s currently on. Similar to how Minecraft is still getting updates and content on rival platforms despite being owned by M$. It will be pulled from those existing eShops though.

I could be wrong? That’s what I remember reading though.

I can care less if devs getting a fair share of their games if at all. Get your store front together, get rid of the ad ware and maybe, maybe if I get a good mood about it, even then that is a big IF.

The Last of Us was a terrific let down. I hadnt been so hype for a game in years. Game was boring as shit. Took me over a year to finish that shit. I had to force myself to play it.

I dont really see the big deal with Rocket League moving over to Epic and being exclusive. Anyone that wanted the game already has it on Steam. Fuckin’ game is a few years old aint it?

Some of you are insane. TLOU was incredible. It started out slow but picks up after like 2-3 hours.

The level design was weak and the mechanics were not polished enough to do anything without it being bothersome. Going between plot points was a chore.

Most of all, I enjoyed the ending to The Last of Us. Any plot that ends with you questioning the moral integrity of the protagonist or siding with him is always the mark of a brilliant storytelling.
