KH2 was the apex of ARPG combat to me, I havent gotten that same feeling from 3 or most other ARPG, although im sure there are some others I forgot
Iāll give you Bravely series, Dragon Quest (See: My favorite JRPG series) and Octopath. What little of the personas and SMTās I played I did not like at all. Never played a Trials game though. They didnāt look interesting me. Havenāt played the Atelier game either. Too many out there and not knowing where to start mainly.
yea i always wondered why no other arpg felt that good to play. id have no problems with ff7 remake if it played like kh2 with final fantasy character but i know its just going to play like a slightly less clunky ff 15.
I prefer action rpg every time, but turn based is fine to, I really like Atlus RPGs for example.
Souls games are action rpgs by the way, jus sayin.
Thatās why some of the most popular recent JRPGs have been turned based, right? Persona, Bravely Default, and Octopath Traveler. Iām not seeing KH3 being celebrated.
i could see not liking smt press turn and persona combat can be mindless outside of optional boss fights. personally my favorite turn based systems are all dead the grandia and shadow hearts series i guess suikodenās prob dead too. i would have also liked an evolution of legend of dragon maybe something like choosing combo routes although that might just be legend of legaia.
You can start with any Atelier game. The series doesnāt have an over arcing plot of any kind and even the games that are connected doesnāt expect you to play a previous game to know whatās going on. Itās a series thatās hugely character driven.
That FF7 remake looks so good. And I finished FF7 like two or three times!
Kingdom hearts 3 is one shit arpg compared to the mountains of trash turn based that drop.
Persona was good, but I happily argue combat wasnāt itās high point. Bravely default was just a broken pile of shit. SMT arenāt what they used to be and the ateiler series is garbage too.
All the good turn based series are pretty much dead.
Same. Iāve enjoyed the Souls series more than any turn-based RPG, and Iāve played and finished a shitload over the years, especially during the āgolden ageā SNES/PS1/PS2 era.
Iāve also enjoyed Diablo II* and Path of Exile more than any turn-based game Iāve played as well.
I feel like I played a demo of that Blood game like 20 years ago.
FFVII looks good, but I still donātā care. I wonder if theyāll leave in Cloud cross dressing and him beating the hell out of Aerith. With todayās culture I can already see the outrage.
You think that was the only one? FF15 was a streaming pile in how it handled itās action.
Last turn based RPG i played was Persona 5. It was perfect. But with the way my work schedule is, itll probably be my last turn based RPG, atleast for awhile
Them shits too long. Took me bout 2 years to beat that particular one
This ended up being a highlight for me. I love breaking JRPGās lol. Thatās the one thing I still enjoy about 7 is how ham you can go with the materia system. Same with the junction system in 8.
i just wanna point out if shadow hearts had survived the ps2 jrpg wars it would be at least a persona tier franchise now. I also wonder why no one straight up stole grandiaās battle system its so good.
Just donāt do grandia Xtreme where it was that weird roulette wheel. Grandia 2 was perfect.
Blood? If you like FPS games even just a little bit, you will love this game. Arguably the best Build engine game which is saying a lot considering the other games that run on it are Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and the still in development Ion Maiden.
Funnily enough I was messing around with BloodGDX(fan made port) a few days ago before this release. 11/10 game. āThey donāt make 'em like this anymore.ā
I like turn-based RPGs as much as action RPGs as long as they do not waste your time with too many fetch quests, there is a sense of progression, and there is some turn stealing or battles require contact to start. I make some exceptions for a great presentation and narrative too as is the case with Final Fantasy VI.
