Just picked up Psychonauts, Last Guardian, Bioshock Collection and Star Ocean 4 for under $35 thanks to golden week and the villains takeover sale on PSN.
They have the Witcher complete edition for under $15 iirc so I might pick that up as well. Though I’ve never had an even faint interest in the game I keep hearing its good.
I kinda picked up Bioshock Collection to give it another chance. I remember the first one being gifted to me when I pretty much only played JRPG’s, platformers and fighters. So a FPS game was disgusting to me. I remember trying it though and immediately hating it.
But I keep reading how great the world building and progression is in that game and while I still don’t like FPS games that much, if the gameplay is stellar (Borderlands) or if the story is good or at least entertaining (Doom, for example) than I can easily look past that “fault” in the game.
Basically, you want to eventually get yourself a Maliwan Hellfire SMG. Combined with this build, whenever she pops out and shoots (and kills), people just die from all sorts of fire damage over time.
This isn’t actually at the current max level, so there’s space to put more points into Assassin.
Also, I’ve read that Double Anarchy builds have eclipsed this now, but I haven’t played this game seriously in forever.
Some of the best real time JRPG battle mechanics of all-time, wrapped up in a coat of ugly, nonsensical cut scenes, fifty birrion fetch quests, a catgirl…
…and Lymle.
That battle engine, 'doe.
It is so good I cannot decide whether it almost balances out all of the pure, unmitigated awful (except for Lymle… nothing could ever make that anything but undiluted Sith in a decanter of cyanide), or if its being so good just makes me hate the game even more for what it might have been.
It’s one big huge massive open world where you ride around on a horse going from town to town looking for Witcher work while following the trail of your adoptive daughter around the world. At one point you replace the horse with a boat but otherwise it’s a horse.
You kill monsters for money and exp to buy gear and level up skill and magic trees. There’s an in depth crafting system requiring you find blue prints around the world.
I remember you not liking BOTW very much and Witcher is that but…way more.
But yeah, Battle engine is dope. Second Story barely squeaks by it, imo.
Sounds like something I would have been super into like 5-10 years ago. All that now just sounds like chores I don’t want to do. I knew it was semi-open worldish, I just didn’t realize the gravity of it.
Speaking of open worlds. I finally got to start out with Red Dead Redemption 2 (because my brother finally finished the game and lent me his copy). Is it just me, or does everything here feel like its more tedious than in other games? Like, it keeps having me press multiple button combinations just to talk to people.
The Cuphead Report—
Well, I never expected to get this far in the game, actually… I’m at King Dice’s game now…but this may be the end point for me because this shit is quite ridiculous. There’s a line of bosses to fight before you even fight him. Fortunately most of the mini-bosses are easy though…the big issue would be making it to Dice with all your HP. I think the only possible way is to get behind whichever hand is dealing the cards, because the hitbox on the damn pink cards seems “questionable” to me…like it’s straight bullshit, actually. You have to make it there with at least 2 HP because it seems like you are just about guaranteed to be hit at least once. Another bullshit thing about this fight (thought it goes with the theme of the character, I guess) is that it involves some luck if you try to guess which hand is going to come down to throw out cards. If you wait until the arm starts moving it is already too late to dash over there and you WILL be hit.
hmm… I didn’t know there was a physical cart version of Wild Guns Reloaded…sheeeeeit I may be on the lookout for that then. Another reason to go with physical on Switch is to save as much space as you can, and for much easier conversion when/if you ever buy a new Switch in the future. (*I trust that a lot more than the idea of “redownloading” stuff, especially in terms of Nintendo systems…if it works fine, but nothing beats the old tried and true old-era method of simply plugging the same old game into your new system, and JUST LIKE THAT the shit is on there.)
RDR2 is a technical achievement, but it’s a goddamn chore to play. IMO, it’s immersion is to it’s detriment. Too much micromanaging and overtly long animations for the most simplest shit, and the shooting mechanics are ass. I loved Red Dead 1, so I was hugely disappointed that I couldn’t enjoy the sequel.
FFXII Zodiac Age dropped on the Switch last night and I had totally forgotten. Has anyone played it on the PS4? I’ve heard the job system is good, but is it good as in “robust and interesting” or good as is"exploitable and broken" like FFT?
Either way, I’m picking it up. FFXII is my favorite final fantasy game.
I played the Zodiac PS2 version and the best features are more unique weapon effects, magic that targets more enemies, a more structured level up system, and fast forward button. Controlling summons is neat, but does not change the game too much. There are some odd changes such as making certain dungeons have more floors. You can still cheese bosses with quickening chains if you choose to.
That one was only released in Japan, right? A fast forward button should be standard in every JPRG in my opinion. Even if you have an amazing environment and atmosphere in a game, I’m ready to sprint through any area i’ve already seen 100 times in 60+ hours of play.
