Dug out my copy of PS All Stars before they axe the online servers tomorrow. Thankfully the online pass doesn’t have a fucking expiry date like some other codes I’ve dealt with in the past.
I knocked out all of the online trophies in no time. One took a bit of luck though, you need to not die in a match+win the match which I literally lucked out on getting in a 2v2 match. In a game where supers can fill the entire screen while killing you in 1-hit this was brutal. I’d go for the online trophies in the Vita version but I got that copy in a bundle and ofc there’s no online pass. I have all of the trophies in the Resistance game on the Vita but again, no online pass so I’m shit out of luck there unless I buy the game again digitally/buy the online but…no thanks.
This game should have been more like PowerStone. There’s a level where you literally keep ascending while fighting and it reminded of that one level in PowerStone 2 I think it was where you do the same thing. You’re fighting the environment AND your opponents.
A lot of the levels are pretty awesome too. There’s a PaRappa stage and 1/2 way through the match a giant mech from Killzone 3 shows up while the menu theme from Killzone 2 starts playing instead of the PaRappa music. It was pretty awesome. There’s a lot of love put into this game with a lot of care shown to the source material of all of the respective characters involved. They fucked it up by making it more like Smash instead of PowerStone though. The characters actually feel like characters from their games too, I was whooping ass with Heihachi.
They’re axing the servers for Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and Modnation Racers is already dead. I miss Killzone 2’s multiplayer. It was of the best from last-gen and it sucks the multiplayer trophies were so damn buggy. I tried to go for some of the last online trophies I needed in that game but the bugs made it nigh impossible so I didn’t bother in the end, but goddamn did I have fun playing that game again.
They have the most up to date info and discussion and even get news before news sites due insiders and people in the industry. Why wouldn’t someone into this hobby go there?
This question has never been answered when it gets brought up, and it was brought up on my last account a couple times as well before the last site redesign.
The gaming side has the aforementioned info that’s hard to get anywhere else though. The only thing really annoying is the posts insisting that everything has single player in it, but you can just scroll past that.
Gamasutra and reddit are the only other places to go when things are slow here, for discussion. Can’t hate when the other can be ignored and scrolled past.
I agree with some games. They cried when Black Ops 4 didn’t have a single player mode. Anyone who plays CoD ain’t playing it for the campaign. That shit won’t be missed.
I thought that was like a major selling point for CoD4.
But I cede my dislike for the real world shooting genre puts deliberate blinders on me, regarding that scene.
(Borderlands is my JAM, though. Loot is my crack. FPS shooty-looty? Hellz yeahs.)
I play fighting games for the VS, obviously, but I consider a solid to robust SP mode to be an absolute necessity - an actual arcade mode, with endings, at the barest minimum.
Shit like SC5 and SF5 discredit feces for their O.P. toxicity towards the wants of the player-base.
But hey, fuck us - what do we know?
Eventually enough money shall be lost that they’ll have to respect us, or go the way of the Dodo.
It’s still fun to read about SFV being supported over there when the first couple years people there were convinced it wasn’t going to make it to season 2 let alone it’s current state. Injustice being hel up as the best fighting game is still laughable.
It was dumb and cheap of Capcom to not include an Arcade mode in SFV, though. Just for the sake of it being in every release ever.
I didn’t play the single player in the first CoD:MW but did for the second one. It was cool, but I didn’t think that was the reason people bought them in the first place.
I don’t touch the single player campaigns of the majority of shooters I play. Halo is one of the few expections but mainly because it had co-op. I didn’t care to follow the plot.
I only buy CoD games a year or two after release for like 5-10 bucks to play the cheesy campaigns. I don’t always get through them though because the gunplay always feel the same to me across every single title so I just end up moving on to something else most of the time.
Multiplayer in CoD games are terrible imo because you can tap L1 to SNAP TO YOUR NEAREST TARGET ON SCREEN and the crosshair will stay there until they’re dead. I’ve talked about this before but there’s literally zero skill involved and then you factor in stuff like radars and it removes a lot of things that make a great online FPS game (relying on sounds and reactions.)
You’re also always boned if someone gets the jump on you unless they’re retarded. I prefer games like Quake/UT/MOHAA/Return to Castle Wolf/ games with higher health pools where even if someone gets the jump on you, if you have the reactions you can possibly make a come back. Edit: Killzone 2 was like this unless you got popped point blank with a shotgun/melee attack and the Resistance series was like this as well.
