Video Game General 6.3: Sekiro has so many damn chickens man. Chickens Everywhere!

Talking about SOTN? It’s probably Konami just being Konami. They don’t want to pay the original VA’s so they opted for the newer VA’s since I imagine they want less money.

It’s Silent Hill HD all over again.

Yea, except i don’t think it ruins SOTN. Those tracks should be there, but the new VA was good (which i understand is part of the problem lol) and didnt bother me when I played it on PSP, so I’ll be fine here. I have like 3 versions of the PS1 SOTN to play anyway. Those tracks should be there for completions sake as it’s a collection. It’s unfortunate they aren’t there.

I’m honestly interested in the collection for Rondo more then SOTN.

Apparently the new collection is using the PS4’s PSP emulator which seems to be the main reason this collection isn’t coming to other platforms.

They’re literally just re-selling the PSP release without the Rondo remake. In fact, if you own a PSP/Vita the Dracula X Chronicles is more bang for your buck since you get the Rondo remake as well. It goes on sale for > 5 dollars pretty often and with Halloween around the corner I bet it’ll be discounted heavily for under a fiver.

I dislike the new voice actors(I personally think they sound like shit compared to the originals.) I won’t be getting this release until it costs a peanut and bean during some sale in the future. If you’ve never played the original, play the PS1 Classic elease of SOTN if you can. You’re missing out on a lot of the charm with the new port and its dogshit VA’s. Silent Hill HD all over again.

I am gonna repurchase a PS3, just to have a good copy to play.

Fuck.

Come to think of it, my digital-only games were some of the best parts of my PS3 collection.

Fuck no backward compatibility.

That shit is why Steam OUGHT TO win.

Just unlocked parry and the sidestep cancel in Yakuza: Kiwami 2. Sidestep cancel is awesome, it allows you to cancel your strings into a sidestep --> attack. I abused the hell out of this in older games like Yakuza 3 where doing a string --> sidestep cancel --> string would literally break the AI of your opponents. They’d either keep blocking or they’d get hit at some point. The parry is awesome too, if you land it you get a free combo afterwards. Fun times. There was a sidestory where a guy was going around pretending to the main character which put a smile on my face the entire time. That’s one thing about this series - it often puts a smile on my face either through the story/character interactions or from the ridiculous moves you can pull off in combat.

-I hit all my goals in Path of Exile. This is allowing me to dip into my backlog a bit/Fighting EX Layer since my character is pretty damn amazing right now and I have no goals to go for other than hitting 99(100 is the cap but leveling from 99 to 100 is brutal.) I also have upgrades to my “standard” character which is fantastic and it was part of the goals I wanted to hit.

-I platinum’d Dark Souls: Remastered on PS4 a while back. I did it in 33 hours which was pretty goddamn quick imo, it took me over a 100 hours back on the PS3. I’m surprised at how much I remembered about the game, which allowed me to Plat it as quick as I did. I only played the Artorias DLC a little bit on PC(the shit port even with the fixes made me stop playing it) so that was basically a new experience for me. The Artorias fight was awesome as well. I’d have been able to shave off a few hours of the 33 Plat if I didn’t spend a like an hour or two lopping off the tail of the dragon in the DLC. You don’t need any of the DLC weapons for the “all weapons” trophy, so yeah.

-Platinum’d Fighting EX Layer a while back as well. It’s actually really easy for a fighting game. There were no ridiculous grinds or doing 550 hit combos with every character to unlock them all thankfully. V. Rosso is awesome but his neutral is terrible, Allen is also awesome but he has no anti-air normals and his SRK is pretty damn shit. I’ve been messing around with D. Dark more(he might be top tier next to Shirase) and Kairi. I like Allen more than Kairi, but Kairi actually has anti air normals, a divekick that stuffs AA normals and a Tatsu that can crossup for a free juggle combo. Kairi just has more options in general.

I like Skullomania a lot too, but that’s mainly because of how much of a dirty bastard he is in this game. He’s one of the few characters that can stuff crossups with his DP as well, other characters have to burn meter to do this and a lot of the cast don’t have any real options against a cross-up outside of dashing under the jump which is hard to do unless you know it’s coming.

TLDR: GAMING

You got rid of your PS3? Terrible. I still like the PS3’s library over any current-gen consoles library by far, but that’s mostly due to all the action games, arcade racers, and the GOAT Souls game Demon’s Souls. This entire generation might end before we see a new Ninja Gaiden or even a new GTA game(which is crazy, I can’t believe people are still playing and spending money on GTAV. I was pretty content after my first playthrough.)

So, I’m 3/4 of the way through Mega Man 11 (just finished the 8 bosses). Thoughts so far:

-The game is fun. Tougher than I expected on normal, but without feeling like a slog. Stages are longer than usual without it hurting them.

-Double gear system is fun, useful, and optional. The speed gear is way more useful unless you’re using boss weapons.

-Having rush coil and rush jet on their own buttons is great. It was always annoying to have to pause or cycle to them. Much more seamless use now.

-Being able to use the right stick to switch weapons is also a big improvement over cycling with shoulder buttons (which you can still do).

-The art style is ok. MM himself is ugly in a bland kind of way.

-The voices are shitty in a preschool children’s cartoon kind way. Not as rancid as MM8’s by any stretch. The story is embarrassing as mainline MM games (post 2) tend to be. The voices make it harder to ignore.

-The music is a letdown. Again, not bad, just a big disappointment from a series with that musical legacy. There are so many people they could have hired to write better music.

-The weapons are good. Not MM9 good, but better than most MM weapons. The DG boosts are a big deal with them. I’m sure I’ll get a lot more use out of them in future playthroughs.

It seems that the goal here was to make a MM game older games would be mostly satisfied with while adding things that might get kids’ attention. It sounds like the easiest mode would be a good choice to introduce your kids/nephews/nieces to MM games- my own prior efforts (with older MM and X games) resulted in my oldest nephew (now 11) quickly losing interest due to the difficulty. I’ll buy this for him and see if I can pass an old favorite of mine on.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAY QUATRO!

Abused the trade-in deals at EBgames. I bought two PS4 games for 20 bucks and traded them towards Megaman. I got around 63 bucks in trade credit(goddamn!) and on top of getting Megaman for basically nothing, I had around 13 bucks left over that I put towards FOTNS. I traded in another two games towards FOTNS and combined with the left over credit I ended up paying a total of like 33 bucks when I factor in the cost of the games I traded in for FOTNS instead of the whopping 79.99+tax new games cost here in Canada EH. Huge, huge savings. :ok_hand:

I got all of the PSP games+Double Dragon for 5 bucks a pop. Rodea I think was originally a Wii game and I’ve heard good things. The price seemed really good too.

The Vita box is just that - a box. I have three Vita’s but I was never able to get a box for one since I bought them all used and I was a really late adopter of the handheld. Shoutouts to my nephew for the donation. :+1:

Anyone with a PSVR needs to do theirself a favor and get Astro Bot. This game is awesome. I just did the beach level and damn it gave me the same kind of vibe the first time I went underwater in Mario 64. It’s really cool.

Microsoft announces global game streaming service to be in beta next year

Streaming is the new ‘Next Big Things’ now that companies are cooling off on VR suddenly taking over plus it kills resales by making everything essentially a rental.

While I do hope MS and the Xbox brand do better next gen, I hope against the market trends that streaming efforts fail.

I will be surprised if we see a traditional console from Microsoft next gen. This gen they’ve basically turned the X1 into a PC that hooks up to your TV. Now with them adding native kb/m support, it all about sums it up. This news about a streaming service would make me think yet again they are going to be out of the console business if they continue that route, since you won’t need a powerful console to play it most likely.

I hope all of this streaming shit fails hard as I personally won’t be partaking in any of it. The latency alone simply makes it unplayable to me for anything serious unless it’s going to be games like Candy Crush that are time wasters for minutes at a time.

Also Guacamelee 2 is coming to Switch in Dec

There seems to be a bunch of previes on fallout 76 that went up

Extra interesting stuff

Gamexplain has a series called under the super scope where they look back on game design for certain games and its pretty solid

Also Mark Brown has something similar and his stuff is great as well

Streaming is shit.

Games as a service is shit.

Anything and everything that removes ownership from the consumer is shit.

It is transference of ownership, with the consumer becoming the thing that is owned.

Renting never owning is indentured servitude is slavery writ small.

And it is shit.

No property, no rights.

Fuck.That.Shit.

I think them and Sony will have two SKUs next-generation with one being traditional and the other strictly streaming. I’ll even go so far as to say the stream box will be priced higher to make it seem more high tech to the casual consumer.

@Purbeast. I wanna try Astrobot. Been hearing good things about it. Game wise I have too much on my plate but I’m eyeing the PSVR. Astrobot, Doom and REZ are the games I want to play on it the most.

I’m still waiting for a fucking left handed patch for Doom VFR. I still have it sealed from like 8 months ago. A quick google search turns up nothing so I am assuming they just completely abandoned it.

No surprise, DOOM VFR was a cash grab.

We do not seem to matter.

Except to Gearbox, ironically enough.

At least THIS gen.

With their rerelease of the Borderlands Collection.

But oh - being able to couch-play BL2 with “Jump” finally allowed us to be mapped to a sane button for Southpaws (re: a shoulder button).

It is a freaking revelation.
