Of the games I listed, Distance in paricular caught my eye because I never heard of it before and it looks GDLK, it almost tempts me to break my rule of not buying early access games…almost. This game looks insane holy shit at that art and that obstacle filled game play, you can get sawed in half and keep racing? you can fly? you can do skateboard tricks? You can find short cuts and multiple paths? I rarely play racers, but this fucking sold me. @RockBogart think this might be the new Blur.
I played Distance at some small indie event. It’s actually a really cool idea since the main mode is a single player campaign/story mode that’s more about progressing than racing.
It still needs something to be a really compelling game because it doesn’t really have a particularly high skill ceiling. You eventually learn how to sort of do tricks and it does have a track creator but I never really liked those. I mean sure you may find some great tracks, but what if you don’t? I mean, like I don’t even like relying on community to produce your content in the first place. It’s one thing if that’s the entire premise of the game, like in Little Big Planet, but it’s another when the meat of the game is a story mode.
I definitely want a robust single player, but the online multiplayer is probably where ill be spending most of my time on the sense of speed and the art really sold me. Racing games are usually monotonous and repetitive in the boring way to me so to see a racer that actually makes me want to buy it I need it to have a good sense of speed the Wipeout games probably do the best job of that, and have something going on besides just out racing the opponent, the hot wheels meets Tron theme has potential I hope the early access feedback helps make it enough to stand on tis own offline.
Actually I feel like games like F-Zero and high speed class Wipeout feel way faster.
What I think Distance does REALLY well is provide a really immersive experience. The music and art in combination with the driving gameplay make it really easy to get absorbed into it. If you’ve played Zone mode on Wipeout, it’s like that just without the constant speed up
Here’s the thing, not buying Konami games actually proves their whole point of “we can’t make money of the traditional video games market”. And their games not selling well will probably just hasten their exit from the market.
Nah, that’s not their point, their point is there’s better money in other industries, and they are right. To make games, you have to actually want to make the games. SOME games do make the big bucks, but not many of them and you can’t really guarantee what will get super big unless it’s a sequel or something with a widely known name behind it like Destiny.
Games have the highest potential to make money, but not unless you basically get lucky. I’m sure Activision didn’t know that COD:MW was going to be so much more successful than any of their previous COD games. Same with GTA3. I mean, they may have thought they were on to something and expected it to do well, but I highly doubt anyone was dead sure that GTA would be one of the best selling series of all time.
I think that’s going to happen regardless, given their recent actions. MGS5 seems to be, for all intents and purposes, their last console game. I was shocked when I learned they had a new Suikoden in the works and they scrapped it.
I think all we have to look forward to now are mobile games. Their best people are gone or on their way out. I’m betting Kojima will go independent.
I don’t even understand what’s fully going on, but it looks like you grab chunks of the level and use them as projectiles. I assume matches will be over quickly.
Yes, because everyone should buy shit games(and Metal Gear) in the hope that they may one day get an actually good Castlevania or Contra again.
That’s the same line of thinking that leads to shit like idiots buying DmC or Lords of Shit Shadow to “support the franchise”, when all that does is tell the suits, "We want more of THIS slop, and not the good shit you used to make."
Fuck Konami.
They can make all the pachinko games and all the hooker love hotels they want… Until I see a real fucking Castlevania and Contra again, they can eat all the dicks on Earth.
