Video Game General 3.0 - You know what should come back? Pre-rendered backgrounds!

Path of Exile’s expansion is now live. I am so fucking hype, FUCK.

Everyone who’s a fan of isometric action RPG’s needs to play this game. @Million !

I must be the only one who is not the least bit hype about MGS5 launch nor the least bit sad about Kojima Productions dissolving. I played MGS 1-4 and Portable Ops (ugh PSP controls), loved them all especially 4, but I totally forgot most of the story especially since each entry tries to patch up the plot of the previous one and then weave in and out of each other thematically being at times needlessly complex and a little bloated despite having enjoyed the ride, so I won’t play 5 until I beat all the others again and get the story and hype fresh in my mind, I guess it’s a bit of gamer OCD. As for KojiPro disbanding I don’t understand why people are upset, sure the downside is it’s not likely KojiPro will ever get the financial backing that Konami gave them, but one of 3 things will definitely happen: They’ll get absorbed by another big developer/publisher (Sony maybe?) who will treat them the way Konami should have in the first place, they’ll self publish, or they’ll go to kickstarter either way any of those 3 options will afford them all the creative freedom they obviously didn’t get at Konami to do whatever they want.

I don’t know what they’ll make after MGS5, but I’m sure it’ll be a lot less constrained by focus group testing, marketability, and profit driven executives than their previous work and that can only be a good thing for them and the fans.

I had an N64, and I never got around to really playing an MGS game. I had no idea what was going on in the not-a-demo of the upcoming game. It seemed pretty cool, though.

Series definitely needs a rereremaster. Po and I would scoop up the first pre-orders.

Look at this guy. Reminds me of jurigamerguy or whatever. You see, this is why I ‘bro game’ anymore, and barely fuck with the FGC type of shit. Why in the fuck is it that you dudes cant be fucking regular?

You can get MGS2/3/Portable Ops remastered already:

Games are 1080p/60 FPS, not really much else you can do. It’s available on Xbox too.

^ You can get this which comes with a code to download MGS1 off of PSN, MGS2 HD, MGS3 HD, Peace Walker and MGS4. If you’re an MGS fan like me, you probably only need the HD collection since you own the others already, making this “legacy collection” not really worth it. If you’ve never played the games before, The Legacy Collection is amazing value for the cost.

Getting through Super Metroid slowly but surely…it’s fun in short bursts, but if I play it for an hour or more it gets boring quickly.

Got the wave beam and the charge beam now though.

What… ARE YOU?

I spend DAYS playing the fuck outta that game, and replaying it, exploring every nook and cranny…

I don’t get you kids…

Nah I feel him. My first time through a Metroid game tends to be in spurts because if it’s a well made Metroid game, you’re gonna get stuck for a decent amount of time at least once an hour, and that shit gets boring.

It’s once you know what to do and where to go and are tearin ass all over Zebes that I can sit down and just play for hours.

Devil’s Third confirmed not being published by NoA, dif dev that supposedly we are familiar with is doing it

No, that’s not it. Getting stuck and working to figure out how to…well, not be stuck, is part of the fun. And it’s those moments that I can keep playing for an extended period, and it’s what kept me going at first as I was figuring out how the game worked.

It’s just that now, there’s no challenge. I just mow through everything without any effort, and that gets dull after a while. The bosses have been nothing but a joke. Fighting enemies just becomes a nuisance rather than part of the fun, 'cause all you do is point and shoot at them until they’re dead. Maybe dodge a shot here or there. Fusion had a better balance of challenge, remaining fun and interesting without getting to the point of frustration, even if there isn’t much combat variety in what you’re able to do.

Exploring’s okay, but the environments are kinda bland and uninteresting. Combined with the fact that secrets are too easy to locate, even without the X-ray Scope…it gets tedious more than anything.

So yeah. Fun in short bursts, but gets dull if I go longer than that.

I bet devils third is gonna be awful

…do you bet your av?

OK, LW… that I will give you. Super Metroid’s regular enemies are kind of weaksauce until you get to Lower Norfair.

That’s a legit complaint.

Fuck that kiddie shit I’ll put money on it

What kind of idiot would relate long combos in a SF game to MKX? One that just started playing fighters this year?

Hell, who the hell would say SFV has long combos? Unless a V-Trigger activation happens combos are fucking short.

None of you have played SFV

Well the anime’s been out a while.

I give MK a pass on redesigning since the beginning as well aside from their characters having the same base normals and the ninja clone thing up until MK:DA. But they’ve never been as cautious with changing their characters up as SF… at least aesthetically and conceptually. Shoot, (MKX spoilers ahead) even Liu Kang went from being a monk who doesn’t kill, to a monk/defender of Earthrealm who kills drops arcades on motherfuckers, to getting killed and coming back as a zombie (not sure if he ever became human again through the Armageddon storyline). Then in the reboot he gets killed again and eventually ends up being the new king of the damn underworld (and probably the next big bad). There are several examples that can be broken down this way but Liu Kang’s a pretty quick one to point out.

SF dropped the ball where SNK and MK didn’t by dropping way too many of their iconic characters when they released New Generation instead of keeping them alongside the new characters they wanted to introduce. Since it wasn’t received as well due to unfamiliarity, I think that set them back a bit on taking risks with what they do with their iconic character designs in the main SF series. They went for a sure thing in the SF4 series and now I think they’re ready to do it the right way with SF5.

Granted it’s been years since I played either game but Metroid Fusion is better than Super Metroid:

-Far superior enemy and boss design
-A lot more combat oriented and overall more difficult
-SA-X fucking terrifying even when it doesn’t see you, freezing it and running for your life gives me Nemesis vibes
-Love the sci fi/horror atmosphere, while Super Metroid definitely has a creepy look and feel, Fusion feels more ominous and intense
-I like the concept of the x-parasite and seeing how it affects the other enemies has that “oh no you don’t! I’m goign to kill you before you get to that other enemy!” feel
-Little bits of plot are the perfect amount to leave me curious about what is going on, but never enough to be intrusive or take away from the game play

Overal Fusion is the better game IMO, the only thing Super does better is having an open world that makes back tracking fun, I definitely prefer that freedom to get lost than the mission based structure which is the main difference between the two, but even so Fusion is definitely my preference.

Hopefully Ghost Song outshines them both! It’s possible.
