Fighting game characters tell more of a story through their idle animations than most of these “story-driven” games tell in an hour’s worth of cutscenes.
the problem is that something will definitively be lost. You think everyone on his team will follow him? i’m sure more than one will take this opportunity to do something else.
This is the end of an era and I can’t help but feel a little sad about it. I still remember one of the main reasons I wanted to get a ps1 was to play MGS, MGS was the game that kept me going with this hobby in a time when I was having doubts thinking I was probably already to old to play video games.
till to this day I sometimes daydream what could it be if the “old” snk was still in business. Every time I ask myself that question I say I’m sure they will be putting out the best fighting games right nowno doubt. They still in business but one thing is for certain they’re not half as good as they used to be.
The combos in SFV involved a lot more juggles then previous entries. You also underestimate the stupidity of some casual players. I was playing 3s at a video store with one of the employees and a random customer asked if we were playing mortal kombat.
Probably, but not those juggles aren’t the same as MK’s. They’re what is expected out of a SF game. MK doesn’t have air resets, so every hit continues the juggle. Only certain moves in SF have juggle properties, and those are usually special moves. Only in SFxT did most normals have juggle properties, and that was because of the Tekken influence. It’s really easy to see the difference between the way combos work in the two games.
Someone like that isn’t the type of person I’d even include in this discussion, as they’re clearly ignorant to fighting games and probably video games in general. Most, if not all, gamers know what MK is and looks like.
So…you don’t care about story…but you care about the character…which is a part of the story…
You make even less sense than I do. If you really cared about just the gameplay, you’d play a game with the gameplay you liked. If it’s the game you’ve always wanted in everything but name, wouldn’t you still play it?
If there was a new game in the same vein as Klonoa, I’d play it, even if Klonoa wasn’t the star. If there was a new game in the same vein as the Legend of Zelda, I’d play it, even if Link wasn’t the star.
(Which reminds me, I still want to check out 3D Dot Game Heroes if I can find it.)
Super Metroid is all about the exploration more than anything I think that’s the main purpose of the game they really want you feel alone in this world the peaceful scenery, the creepy music complement this. I don’t think it will have the same effect if enemies were constantly hitting you ala megaman although it gets more difficult at the later half of the game as you reaching the climax getting closer to mother brain.
Another random question, which Po reminded me of. Previously I asked about your top 5 favorite video games of all time. What are your top 5 favorite video game characters of all time?
