Fez is shit Zoo. No enemies, no consequences for dying, the only challenge the game provides are platform puzzles around the game’s main gimmick which ain’t difficult to figure. It doesn’t do anything impressive with it’s world flipping concept. Not like other games that used it like Paper Mario, the original Tomba and Zelda: A Link between Worlds.
The game’s quality wasn’t the point; it was about how several well-known indie games use pixel art and how that’s lead people to equate indie games with pixel art. I mean, he could have used Super Meat boy, VVVVVV, Cave Story, or something else in its place and his point would remain the same.

But I’d be happy to respond anyways as Hawkingbird’s post is a prime example of what’s embarrasing about many gamers they let their preconceived notions of what a game should be color their opinion completely and criticize games for not being what they want them to be instead of judging them on their own merit it’s like ordering buffalo wings at a restaraunt and then saying it’s terrible because it tastes nothing like a cheeseburger. That’s why I respect TotalBiscuit’s game reviews more than anyone else because even when he reviews a game he doesn’t like he spends time elaborating about what the game is conceptually and tries to think about who that particular game is made for and envisions if that audience would like it or not. Foe example he doesn’t like difficult platformers, but when reviewing Electronic Super Joy he was able to see it was well designed enough to be appealing to those who like difficult platformers.

Now as for your second complaint about the game that is a perfectly logical and understandable opinion because you’re enaging what the game is trying to accomplish and saying in your opinion it fails at it’s intended goal as a puzzler. I’m curious what is your completion % in Fez? I ask because if you did beat it or at got past the beginning few levels you’d see it’s puzzles and the way it uses the 2D to 3D mechanic is infinitely more varied, complex and nuanced than Tomba or A Link Between Worlds (full disclosure I haven’t played ALBW so I could be wrong maybe it has super complex high level puzzles that are way more advanced than any other LoZ, but I’ve watched a lot of footage of it and haven’t seen any puzzle anywhere near as complex as most of Fez’s). That being said maybe you don’t find complexity and depth impressive, but I do especially in the genre of puzzlers, Fez forces you to think in a very unique way and that’s not even considering the code language you can decipher which is insane. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you only played Fez for a little bit and made up your mind about it completely that coupled with it not being the type of game you prefer with consequences and enemies didn’t make it any easier to look at why others might enjoy that type of game. I hope you don’t take this post as my attempt to convince you to like Fez because it isn’t, just letting you know that just because you do or do not like something it doesn’t mean your opinion is anymore valid than anyone else’s, that and there is a difference between an opinion and a fact lol =P.
I wouldn’t buy Fez because I dont want to give Phil Fish any support whatsoever.

Not really. You have to wait till a hack for your firmware drops, then buy a game and do all this installing and shit. I’ve hacked mine twice but I always ended up updating it and losing the hack.

Of course. I just think Fish is a complete twat and can’t bring myself to give him money in any way. Generally dislike of a company isn’t focused on a single person but rather the business practices of the company. Fish went out of his way to be the most unlikable dipshit in gaming history.
I thought fez was cool. Mostly because of the engine that Fish stole from the dev that I don’t think was credited. But, meh, it is worth a play.
