Video Game General 2.0: Yo Dawg I Heard You Like Remasters And Ports

You’d be surprised how many people spend the majority of their time playing video games, but never seem to get any better at them.

People bitched just as much back then, too. I feel like the term ‘hardcore gamer’ just means ‘hardcore consumer’ and it’s just more about what games you own, rather than beaten.

Do you friends know about i-frames and jump cancel? I remember learning those and breezing through the game.

Yo guys. You know any other sites where you can find old games? I’m hunting down the .hack series I only own the 1st. I found 2&3 for like 20-30 each which was cool. But the cheapest i can find the last damn game is lke $130. I saw it for $80 on ebay and got hyped but then saw it was a bid so I was like fuuuuuuck

Craigslist, Amazon, Ebay or get lucky and find them at an independent game store.

You probably wont find them for cheap unless you get really really really lucky.

I ordered 2&3 off amazon. But it’s 4 that has that like $130 price tag. I may bite the bullet and pay after a while if i truly can’t find a lower price.

Like 10 or 11 years ago I looked up info on every single game for every single console I owned and wanted to own at some point and for each console made a list of every game I wanted to play. Those lists took me almost like a week to make and probably had well over 1000 games maybe double or triple that lol. I actually got through a good number of them on several consoles, but then real life took over and I didn’t have time to complete that goal and I think I lost those lists maybe I still have them somewhere lol.

I remember a lot lf those games especially from the PS2/GC/XBOX era had what is now considered “modern handholding”, but the difference was after that intro tutorial level of handholding those games threw you to the fucking deep end and said “swim bitch” rather than continue to hold my hand as last and current gen games do.

As someone who grew up with mastering some of the toughest games around and continues to feed my masochistic love of them I also appreciate games that are easy to understand and play after a long day at work sometimes I want a cinematic experience to enjoy and “hold my hand” and not always stress myself out and concentrate super hard on every single game I play.

I’ve owned Awepsmenauts since July 2013 and have almost 900 hours since then because despite how complex and skill intensive it is, it’s still a relatively easy game to just pick up and play.

Dark Souls 1&2 both do this already, Dark Souls 1 has The Way of White which gives you access to healing spells, and makes it easier to connect with other people for co-op, and Dark Souls 2 has The Way of Blue which makes it easier to connect with people for co-op and automatically summons people to your game if you have been invaded.

Donna Burke takes back her claim that Kojima was fired

I posted it in the horror games thread, but it’s unique enough to warrant a post here too don’t worry I won’t spam gifs even if there were any lol. A Japanese indie horror game called Back In 1995 using PS1/N64 graphics:

It’s not much, but I’m really liking this screen shot has a sci fi RE1 look and I want to know wtf is that robot thing outside?

…why?

Sure you can say it’s ugly and I know most gamers myself included think most PS1/N64 games are ugly as shit, but I like the look of this game and it’s about damn time the early 3D/low poly era got some love rather than everyone just sticking to 8/16 bits. As developer tools for this era become more widely available I want to see what indie developers can do with this style since they’ve given us countless GDLK games that are as good if not better than what we got in the 8/16 bit days.

At glance it doesn’t look like the typical horror genre game these days that have crisp realistic-looking graphics and lack originality. Of course there are also other non-typical horror games that probably suck ass.

…why not?

I’m losing it haha

Games looked like that back then because of limitations. I don’t see why that “style” needs to be “shown love.” The 8/16 bit stuff I can understand, because that actually became a style and can be very visually appealing, but not this PS1 graphics stuff. This hipster shit, man… To each his own, I guess, but I really don’t see the point.

People into stuff I dont like. Must be hipster shit!!!

You know that’s not what I’m saying…

Who actually likes PS1 graphics anyway? What’s there to like about it?

Yeah I mean, if you want your graphics to look like that era and you do it well, cool I guess. I WOULD say however that if they do some dumb shit like copying the texture flickering that the PS1 had, then yeah, they’re just being nostalgic for it’s own sake instead of for the sake of style/design. Unless they do some Axiom Verge trickery with it I guess

PhantomAngel has obviously never seen or played Silent Hill on PS1, among other games.

This cover art is interesting.
