Honestly it’d be pretty easy. If you consider that the game could be framed by Nick telling the WEA the story of his ancestors, he can easily throw in a statement in the localization where he says one of his ancestors made the move over to the US after the events of the game.
Yeah I’m like halfway through Trials and Tribulations. Up until now, and all of the last game, I thought it was all based in Japan, but was just translated to English.
Soon as I found out it is Canonically in America in the translated version I was like “The fuck? We dont have spirit channeling dojo’s and bitches walking around in kimonos. Also our justice system doesnt even work like this in court lol”
Just think of it as an alternate-universe America and it’ll make more sense.
Or just simply don’t worry about it and be happy that the whole locale switch was handled a LOT better than in Trauma Center.

It wouldnt matter if these games make some of the cleanest action this side of Platinum, people would never respect the games over this shit.
