I liked one a lot too. Dawn of Dreams is the only one I don’t think much of, and even then, it’s not a bad game. Just really average in a series of overall great games.
In terms of story: 1 > 2 > 3 > Dog shit > Dawn of Dreams.
Terms of characters: 1 = 2 > 3 >>>> Dawn of Dreams.
Terms of Gameplay: 2 > 3 > 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dawn of Dreams.
In terms of Story I just prefer the 1st over 2 and 3. It was pretty great.
Characters I think 1 and 2 had a better cast than 3 even though 3’s cast was still really good.
Gameplay: Warlord was a great start, 2 expanded on it greatly with a mechanic that makes replay-ability endless, 3 changed it up greatly pretty much forcing you to relearn everything, and DoD just made it all shit.
I popped both Dark Souls 1 and Demon’s back into my PS3 last night for a bit after getting the Plat for DS2, and it’s crazy how much faster the earlier games are. Not only do you attack faster & roll faster(as well as run faster in Demon’s) the enemies are WAY faster too. The enemies are arguably the scariest and the most of a threat in Demon’s.
Demon’s overall had the best enemy interaction as well as the best boss designs and fights. DS1 was great too in this regard. in DS2 I fought 99% of enemies as well as bosses the same way and I was able to get up to New Game++ and Plat the game. In Demon’s, you had to learn enemy fights a lot more to comfortably defeat them. In Dark Souls 2, you can implement the same strategy throughout 99% of the game and the only actually scary enemies are red phantoms/ones that can’t have their poise broken(or it’s very difficult to break it.)
Still a great game, but they went backwards in a lot of ways. I don’t know how you build a new game engine for “better performance and graphics, 30 FPS capped on consoles” and then put out a game that performs AND looks worse than both of its prequels as well as having way longer load times.
Recurring theme in all three games for me: Get utterly destroyed in the first couple levels until I learn the mechanics, then I come back with a vengeance and 100% the games.
Evolve isn’t either…Evolve and CoD may have some exclusive content for the Xbone but the games themselves aren’t exclusive. Ass Creed is usually more in bed with Sony than Microsoft so that game is the most out of place of them all. I feel like this isn’t the first time Microsoft has done something like this…major deja vu.
Like the addition of Jean Reno made the mediocre Onimusha series so much better.
Onimusha is just Resident Evil 4 with Samurai and the God of War spheres system.
Don’t forget that less-than-awesome sword controller
Jean Reno was awesome. You just weren’t ready for the Capcom Hollywood production values of the intricate father-and-son relationship between Jean Reno and his son Henry. He time traveled and fought demons for that kid.
onimusha was ok after I forced myself to get into it
2001 had so many better games out
Pokémon crystal
Oracle of seasons/ages
Megaman 64
Paper Mario
Max Payne
Halo
Serious Sam
