Video Game Confessions

i posted here, and got dick all. Didnt get any replies at DL. I am having trouble even with small stuff:
how to properly deal with the fact characters can double jump
how to properly pick a main character
how important are BnB’s compared to general strategies and setups (due to the characters being so massively different from each other, unlike SF)
how to not get knocked down and promptly ass fucked by an opponent

I am just feeling terrible cuz I wanted this game for awhile, finally bought it, and it’s sat on a pile with Tekken 6 and Red Dead Redemption all summer long. Just finding it hard to get into this game, cuz I can’t even learn a character due to getting annihilated by AI and people I play online :frowning:

Have never beat Spider-Man & Venom - Maximum Carnage on the genesis. I bought the game in 1995 and still can’t beat it to this day.

I have a habit of playing an rpg until aound the middle or 3rd quarter, getting into something else for a while, coming back and then giving up since I have no freaking clue what I’ve just done or what I’m supposed to be doing next and don’t feel like running around triggering random encounters trying to find that one freaking npc that will let me carry on with the game.

Yeah, you just kinda slapped the hell out of the judge a lot, with a lot of backstepping to avoid his retaliatory hits (which he didn’t need to charge). It didn’t help that his second form was even stronger.

-Picking a main character has to be one of the most annoying things to tell someone how to do. You know yourself a lot better than we do. There’s various factors in that. Take me for instance. I like well rounded characters with reliable AA options who are rushdown based characters. Coming from GG(Sol/Order-Sol) I picked up Ragna. The traits that you like you have to find. Do some challenge mode and watch some vids. Visit the character boards they have a detailed breakdown of each character.
-How not to get knocked down comes from experience. Since(I’m assuming) you don’t know what every character can do, so you aren’t prepared for it. The only way to fix that is to fight people. Take control over your opponent and learning how to defend vs their capabilities. Of course you have to learn how to apply Instant Blocking and Barrier Guard(comes with experience as well).
-How to deal with characters who can double jump… Isn’t that everyone but Tager? You’re going to have to go beyond simply double jump. Are you not used to playing FGs in which people can double jump? You can’t do HJC combos? Double jump combos? What?
-BNBs are damn important is what I can say. These aren’t simple combos like crForward>Hadouken. I play Ragna and I hate ending combos with his DP in Berial Edge combos because my opponent techs too early whereas I prefer Hell’s Fang or OTG grab or Gauntlet Hades as enders for better positioning on my end.

Hmmm… Let’s see…
-I’ve never played any COD/Halo/Zelda/Metroid games. EVER.
-I think Ibuki is boring and it grinds my gears when someone picks her just because she’s a ninja(Samurai were always superior)
-Bowsers little flying contraption in the last level of Super Mario World scares me.
-I LOOOOOOVE UMK3 and MKTrilogy
-I feel very uneasy when I let little children use my handheld systems.
-I hate FPS games. I suck at them and I despise how popular they are and how most folks won’t give other genres a chance.
-I’ve never touched or used Xbox/Xbox360 console ever. (Playstation man)
-Anything horror = NO. :frowning:
-Super Turbo is the best SF game ever IMO. Even though I can’t get past the CPU on the easiest setting.
-I despise anyone who picks Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, I hate him! Amy Rose FTW!
-Heavy Rain made me cry.
-I’ve had a “miracle” copy of MvC2 on the PS2, bought it when i was 10 in 2003 brand new. didn’t know what i was doing but it was alot of fun! later on that year gave it to my cousin. 5 years later when i got into fighting games I find it behind the drivers side seat in my dad’s Acura really scratched up and I decide to test if it still worked and it did work. FLAWLESSLY!!! kept playing it nonstop 'til summer '09. Then i gave it to my friend since i got MvC2 on PS3.
-I have a hate for the volcanic rim stage in SFIV, and all the buttmunchers who pick that stage manually.
-I despise the black color for Ken, Guile, Ryu and Adon in SFIV, they look atrocious!!!(people don’t like colors nowadays it seems.)
-It irks me that consoles don’t come in other colors besides Black or White. Gamers LOOOOVE COLORS TOO YA KNOW!!
-Forward MK (Flower Kick?)with Sakura + PAUSE= FAP,FAP,FAP.
-I enjoyed the NFL Street Series!! ALOT! ESPECIALLY 2.
-The little tune in Donkey Kong Country when you lose and says GAME OVER scares me.
-I overthink things in games like God of War, and end up figuring out days later that the objective or stair or entrance was right there in front of my face.
-Easy mode is always my first playthrough.
-R.Mika is the hottest SF girl EVER!

I enjoy MvC2, but I have the most fun with a Guile/Guile/Guile team.

-It still hurts my soul to see a “should be godlike” character like Mewtwo or Thanos end up being mediocre or just straight up terrible in a game compared to other, “lesser” characters.

-I used Tager to beat Score Attack in Blaz Blue…of course I have absolutely no shame on that issue though. Score Attack in BB is the most outrageously difficult mode I’ve ever seen in a fighting game. I’m still surprised that some folks were allegedly able to do it without Tager or Jin. Even considering how Tager dominates most cpu-controlled characters despite the ridiculous difficulty setting in there…you still have to hope you can make it past v13 (little Miss “I can make 1000 magic swords appear from everywhere at anytime!”) which is still a huge potential problem for Tager.

-I can’t beat or even play any modern JRPG, which is weird since some of my favorite games in the past were JRPGs.
-I have finished MGS4 well over 10 times, and have seen every inch the game has to offer, aside from a few titles.
-I still think Vagrant Story is the best RPG I have played.
-I only played the Deus Ex games this year, and I already think the original is better than most other games this current gen, sequel too.
-I hate everything Nintendo makes. They have not been any good since SNES.
-I enjoyed Chrono Cross a LOT more than Chrono Trigger.

I still await news of a Shadowrun 2 :frowning:

Chrono Cross is the worst sequel in gaming history. Storyline was stolen from a text adventure, sooooo many useless characters, they pretty much eliminate the cool multiple endings (and ability to end the game at almost any point or time), and I literally beat the entire game without even using or seeing ONE dual/tri tech. I still await a TRUE sequel to Chrono Trigger

Remember, this is a non-judging place. Just a place to get out all those hidden video game secret feelings and truths we have…

Reads above statement

Uhhh… yeah… Chrono Trigger is arguably the best RPG ever made… Period… Chrono Cross is a solid B game… Soviet and I agree pretty much agree on nothing on this earth but we agree that CT>CC and we need a true sequel…

Ct>cc

And I find CT to be completely over-rated and not much better than any other JRPG that was released around that time, be it FF or a DQ or Lufia, whatever. To each his own, but I still haven’t heard of someone make a convincing case as to why CT is so good. I don’t see it.

Green 360 with Eternal Sonata “Polksa” faceplate FTW

Reaons why CT is arguably the best RPG of all time (Not necessarily in order)

First game to do multiple endings well
Great character development for everyone
You fight everything from robots to dinosaurs and it makes sense the entire time
Its Yasunori Mitsuda’s best score EVER
You can make the game as easy or as hard to complete as you want. (Yeah, you go try to beat Lavos when you first get to the end of time and see how that goes for ya!)
First game to do New Game + and it did THAT right
It has one of the best written scripts ever, and its localization doesn’t butcher it
The whole concept of Lavos is awesome. Giant space traveling parasite that feeds on entire planets after settling on said planet for millions of years? Yeah… that’s pretty awesome.
Tons of fun and challenging boss battles.
The game did combination attacks well (and there were TONS of them)

Part of what makes CT so great is it did so many things FIRST and it still did them better than most anything that came after. It redefined what a JRPG could be, and in many ways it changed the way we look at gaming convention.

its the most “western”.

-I have yet to finish Chrono Trigger. I’ve gotten further on the DS remake than I ever have when I’ve emu’d it (never had a SNES, gaming in South Africa in those days was the exclusive domain of the uber-rich); but I got cockblocked on some boss and I haven’t touched it in months.
-On that note, I haven’t finished about 70% of the games I own.
-I call myself a Tales fan, but haven’t ever played one through to the end.
-I refuse to play FPS on console, unless its TimeSplitters; but I don’t have the money or care to keep my PC up to date. I’m far from a PC gaming elitist, I prefer consoles, but trying to aim without a mouse makes me want to throw things at other things.
-I never trade my games in, “in case I want to play them again later.” I rarely want to play them again later.

man, i trade in almost every game I own. I have to be able to play a game for YEARS in order to not trade it in. Halo 3, and SFIV, are the only games I have owned for 360 more than 1 year

Eww how have you kept Halo 3 for that long? Only ones that should be in discussion is 1 and 2. Don’t get me started on ODST and Wars. Reach looks aight (if they keep Team SWAT like how it is in the beta. DMR is pretty beastly
