Vewlix 'Slim' worklog (plus some other bits ...)

Why do you guys with skill always post your worklogs and make me jealous? :crybaby:

It’s supposed to make you inspired, not jealous!

When you get round to doin the control panel do let me know. If you after Vewlix it’d be really rather easy for me to alter my files and merge two TE fighting stick panels and for you to make that panel really stand out.

Thanks doomy, that sounds great! I’m planning to start within the next week or so once the main section is complete. I need to think about ordering my acrylic and buttons/joysick soon.

Well if you give me a width and depth of the kind of size you are after I can certainly knock something up. Then distance you want between stcks and ZAP, done.

More progress today on the speaker cut-outs and the speaker frame. The frame has nice bevelled edges to give it a better look but you can’t really see them on the pics. I neet to adjust the corners slightly for a better finish.

Everything looks better in real life than in the pictures but nevermind…

Here’s the reason why I decided to use vinyl for the front and why I’ll be using it for the main sections of the control panel. Provided that the surface is flat, free of dirt and stretched to fit, a great finish can be obtained. Apologies for the size of one of the pictures but it needs to show the detail.

looks real cool so far…

what kind of panel are you gonna put on it?

It’s going to be a Vewlix style CP with all the angles acrylic etc which will be interchangeable with a Vewlix PC one!

cant wait to see it man…

good job

Great job so far ericleroi! I really look forward to see more:D!

I’ve had to disassemble everything to cut the sides and then glue and screw it all back together (with the exception of the sides to the base as I will be painting this a different colour). For all those with a foot fetish, I’ve incuded a picture especially for you (only have 3 in place at the moment due to screwing one up on a piece of scrap).

The rear of the sides and the top piece are also bevelled slightly to finish it off better.

I’ll be starting on the control panel soon

nice work man, this thread is getting bookmarked!

How many hours have you spent on your projectt so far m8? I have always wanted my own arcade cabinet, and with yours+ some of the other cabinet builders out there great work, I might start my own project in the future.

Looking good! It looks really low though, maybe just my eyes

I reckon it’s taken about 7 days so far at around 7 hours of actuallly doing stuff per day. I’ve spent a good part of 12 months thinking about putting something togeher and also to save up for the monitor and various bits and pieces. I would think that it will take me another 4 weekends to complete including spraying, soldering etc. Quite a lot of work but something I really enjoy doing.

btw how are you going to paint it?

I’m really feeling this, I’m checking everyday until it’s complete!

wow, I want one!

Hi doomy, it’s your eyes! I’ve used the original plans of the cab to get an idea of some of the measurements. The height to the top of the CP will be about 71 cms which is the exact height of the Vewlix.
