Vewlix 'Slim' worklog (plus some other bits ...)

Thanks for the heads-up on the resale option! I’m thinking about the back of the cab atm as well but I can’t wait to get this operational so it will have to put on hold for now. Still trying to figure out whether to put the sub in there as well.

Managed to get my main PC working temporarily so have been able to complete the artwork. Here’s the CP layout I’ve come up with:

EDIT: just noticed there are only 2 gray lines on the bottom - fixed now.

that layout looks so good. i cannot wait until you finish this!

oh woah. i just realized your side panels arent the same shape as donavon myers. with the legts being chopped off and basically put put onto the base? why did you elect to do that?

Can we see a pic of your workshop where all this was made?

I wanted to put proper legs on the cabinet like the real Vewlix. If you have a look at the black and white version, it’s pretty accurate. The ones on Donovan’s I’m assuming are more for aesthetic purposes. With the real legs, I now have levelling feet which make the whole construction really stable.

TBH I’m really embarassed about the state of my garage at present! Once I’ve cleaned up te mess in there I’ll post some pics. Basically it has a work bench and a Trend router table. The only other power tools I’ve used are the jigsaw and the drill.

Having a really painful time with my PC at the moment. I fitted my new PSU and the XP installation stated te my machine’s hardware had changed and I would need to re-activate. Then my internet connectivity packed in so I’m in the middle of reinstalling my OS. There’s still a problem with the connectivity as my download speed is rubbish and I’m trying to get the latest drivrers for my graphics card. I’m writing this in a resolution of 800x600.

Figured out what the problem was with my internet connection. I’m using one of those adapters that works over the mains. It doesn’t like being attached to the same powerstrip which is running my PC which now has a more powerful PSU. If I connect it to a different socket (which is across the room) it’s fine. I guess I need to get a longer network cable. Oh well, you live and learn!

  • I’m not much of a carpenter or handy person. What kind of feet would you use? Table?

The legs are 30mmx40mm wood strip(same width as the MDF sides i.e. 12mm +18mm) which have adjustable feet screwed into them:

The wood strip is glued and screwed onto the bottom of the cabinet.

I’ve sent my artwork off to be printed so should be able to finish the CP when it comes back. I’ve included some test prints for the side art which I may laminate or have stickers made:

This looks really good, I can’t wait to see the final product.

I’ve wanted to build an arcade cabinet myself for a couple of years, this thread and the project plans thread have inspired me to do something about it, now it’s just a matter of money. Being a student doesn’t pay much

Thanks Kaos. I noticed that you’re from Manchester. That’s where I come from originally and went to University as a student … great times.

I’ve received the artwork but am not completely happy with the print. I thought it was going to be glossy but it’s not. Nevermind, here’s the marquee which I have fitted for now:

I’m happy with the artwork though.

I’ll get on with the CP next.

Here’s the CP. I still have some finishing off and cleaning up to do…

that’s a very pretty tape dispenser

seriously though - this cabinet is looking wicked sic. i love the construction and especially the cp. maybe it’s the simplicity of the cp that has me drop-jawd over it.

keep up the good work!.

Looking Fantastic man…

Thanks! I like simple too.

Thank you again!

Here are some pics of the CP in the min unit. A couple of the buttons are slightly off so I will adjust these.

I need to get the moveslist inlay sorted next.

Great that your nearly done, now you can start making mine!!

man I wish I had the money to build one of these. so awesome.

That control panel looks amazing - great layout and nice colour scheme.

Just one question though, the blacks on the printed cpanel don’t seem to be as dark as the black you have paint on the cab, is this by design or just a trick of the camera?

Pete

Edit: just read your recent posts again and see that you’re not happy with the prints.

lol. I’m going to take a break for a while after this and may even play a few games of SFIV

Thank you!

A couple more pics showing the thing almost complete.
