Vewlix 'Slim' worklog (plus some other bits ...)

wow, that looks really good! i am planning on making something similar in the future. the control panel is detachable correct? just curious but how are you supporting and connecting the control panel to the base?

So damn sexy. I am in complete awe with what you have been able to accomplish in the last few weeks.

Thank you!

That is correct, it is bolted on. I’ve bolted the unit on as I somehow feel it will be more secure that way. I was careful to include 2 bolts on the left and right sides to stop it from flexing. The sides also add extra strength as will the supports in the middle once glued in place. The bolts also allow the whole panel to be removed easily.

It looks fantastic. Good job!

Wow, I wish I had the wood working skills to make something like this.

This is such a nice build, words escape me.

Fucking hell… Wow…

WOW!!!

I’m soooo jealous that I can’t do something like this…

Got the saw, got the router (no table though), got the jigsaw, got 90% of the tools to be able to do this project, but I don’t have the most important part… skills!

I’d be fine on the electronics side of things… but the wood work part… it’ll be an epic failure!

mate this is absofrickin awesome!!

The Greatest Carpenter since Jesus Christ. Good job.

This passed completely under my radar. Stunning work, man, I’m in awe.

<drool> Can’t wait to see it with some controls, the screen and the game system

you only put the vinyl on the control panel and the framing boards above and below the tv rite? none on the base or any other parts?

looks good man…keeps getting better and better. are you going to put some glass or plastic on top of the moves list on the CP?

Very nice job.

Holy cow! It is amazing what a few weeks can produce! A-M-A-zing. You are a straight pimp.

Thanks everyone for your comments it’s really appreciated. I will be posting some plans and a ā€˜how to’ soon should anyone want to build one.

That’s correct about the vinyl. The base is black paint with matt (comes out a nice even satin) water based polyurethane. The top was coated in enamel and wet sanded down.

Edit: I’m going to put some white LEDs under the opal acrylic and still have to cut some metal pieces to hold it in place.

oh woah. i just realized you are from england. no wonder you get that vinyl so easy.

what is wet sanding?

cant wait for u to put the blue prints up.

Wet sanding is basically using specially formulated sand paper (I used automotive stuff) that allows you to wet the paper before sanding. It’s messy but much easier to get a good finish.

Real Hottie you have there!!!

Give us more pictures please!

If only you could copy and paste things in real life. I wish I had a replicator.

Easily one of the coolest projects I have seen in a long time. I’m with Rigo, keep the pic coming
