Cool! Although I would like to have the room for a full size, a 24" is big enough really. Iāll also be able to use it for the PC which is a bonus and doubles the payback on the effort spent making it.
Have fun with the construction!
Thanks! After cutting the centre section, I stood it on its side and drew round it to get te shape. I made sure I left a couple on mm to give me some flexibility in the future (thicker vinyl for example). It came out as well as I could have hoped for really.
Edit: the vinyl has settled/smoothed slightly this morning and it looks great so I wonāt be replacing it at this point.
I really like the art that Danmartigan used:
If anyone already has this, Iād love a copy so save me from doing it from scratch.
The dimension are in line with the base of the cabinet. Basically the base is 59cm wide, 1 cm wider than the monitor (58cm). The middle section is 1/2 cm wider than the base (59.5 cm). The sides are each 3cm wide as they are constructed from 12mm and 18mm MDF gluedand screwed together. The toralpanel wiidth is 65.5 cm. I added the 1/2 cm so I wouldnāt have any issues with the slightly over cut sides not lining up with the sides of the base unit.
The main bottom piece of the panel (18mm MDF), before I used the chamfer bit, is 39 cm x 59.5cm. It does have an additional bevelled piece of wood at the back which is 1cm thick.
It could be constructed in a simpler way but I wanted to have replaceable control sections and easy access to the internals so I went for a lid.
Ok, so I 've been working frantically to get a better finish on the main white section. I stripped back the poyurethane, sanded, applied some enamel, waited a few days and started on the wetsanding. It has come out looking like plastic and the finish is very smooth. Iām gald I took the time to do this as Iām much happier with it now. The low-grade photo doesnāt really do it any favours. Just have a tiny patch to repair where I oversanded slightly. Sorry about the large pics.
Looking great this has been a enjoyable thread to follow so far and im itching to see the finished product.
That looks like a variation of the full panel Vewlix template for Arthongās plexis thatās been going around the TE template thread.
Thanks! I know some of the āprogressā seems to go over old ground at times but I hope itāll be useful for someone making one themselves.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you ā¦!!
Iād found a few Vewlix templates but nothing which would easily allow me to create the artwork I need. This is a great starting point for me!
Whilst Iām waiting for the enamel on the CP sides to dry and thanks to d3v, Iāve been able to start on the artwork in Photoshop. This, or something very similar, will end up as the marquee:
I experimented with adding āslimā after the Vewlix logo but didnāt like the results.
yeah that black version of the viewlix would be just perfect for the whole projectā¦
thanks for the dimensions too, since i dont have the space to house a whole cab i just might make a 2 player panelā¦
take some HQ photos once you finish it
How are you planning to add the Vewlix logo to the Marquee? I plan on using the one on Donovan Myerās website and taking it to a print shop for an acrylic or vinyl sticker.
Vewlix Marquee Zip Files
Perhaps āSLIMā in a very wide-but-short font, underneath the logo?
That CP is looking incredible man. I will be building mine but iāll be using two Tekken 5 sticks as my CP. I want to be able to take my stick(s) to a friends house if needed. I am thinking of making the standard looking viewlix āshelfā for the sticks to sit on, but maybe having my T5 sticks sit kind of recessed into the shelf so it looks more authentic. Seeing yours makes me want to scrap the T5 idea and just make a two player Stick I can bring with me⦠Decisions Decisionsā¦
As iāve said before, Looking great!
please add the 4th punch button for aesthetic reasons.
Iāll try and get hold of a decent camera to take some pics.
At the moment, Iām just going to go for a print on photopaper and attach it to some thin board behind the acrylic. Iām checking out printers today.
Thanks for the idea! I wish i could find something that works to personalise it but everything Iāve tried doesnāt look right. Iām still going on this one.
Go on, build one!
Flexibility to use it for other things is definitely a good idea.
Still undecided about this one. I can always build another panel later as I have 2 pieces of acrylic cut and ready!
Trimmed the acrylic for the marquee. Iām glad I allowed a lot of āgiveā in the design as my curves arenāt great but the fit is good. It will look perfect from the front so thatās what matters.

If only you werenāt done with the painting, Iād have recomemdned that you go for black/blue Vewlix L colours, based on how sexy that black Vewlix template looks.
where did you buy your fablon?
Make a 2 player, detachable CP from the T5 sticks that you can carry around with you. That shitād look awesome when you bring it to a local tourney.
I have to say I do like the blue as well.
Thatās it!
Starting to look like a complete machine now:
