Earlier yesterday some 4chan users sent mass emails, faxes, prank calls and other things to some Australian government sites. Some of the sites were down or sluggish only for about an hour or so but still crazy what a bunch anonymous people can do. As sick as 4chan is on occasion I still believe it’s the physical embodiment of free speech and pro animosity on the internet.

the only person i know that regularly visited was fat. using the the law of induction, i shall conclude the next 4chan frequenter i meet will also be fat and therefore all 4chan’ers are fat. and since i hate fat people, on principle i thusly hate 4chan and its users.
seriously though, 4chan has already proven itself to be breeding ground for illegal activity and should be shut down.

Next time host it elsewhere and don’t hotlink if it’s not an IM or chat. Hotlinking straight from there is considered rude (and they disappear quickly… though fortunately your image is still around for now). Not to mention it’s blocked at the workplace/places with filters
And yes /m/ is good. Edit- I enjoy /sp/, /an/, and the occasional /jp/ myself. Haven’t been to the porn boards in a while… they’ve become the most bot-infested.

So is youtube. You don’t see people asking youtube to shut down. Illegal activity is not encouraged on 4chan and if it gets posted it gets deleted fairly quick. Just because something illegal CAN happen on the site doesn’t mean it should be shut down.
Hell highschools are a breeding ground for illegal activity (drugs, potential shootings, stabbings, fights etc) but you don’t go around shutting down highschools either.
It’s all fine and dandy when Scientologists and animal abusers are targeted, but what happens when the target is a dissenting opinion and not necessarily something objectively harmful?
It’s like Wikipedia. Can you sue Wikipedia for posting false info on you, or for refusing to take down your bio? I don’t think U.S. law allows for it.
I envision a scenario where I become a well-known screenwriter (here’s hoping) and, in an interview or lecture or something, I talk about the follies of anime storytelling and why it’s monstrously overrated, and I find my websites and emails attacked by a group of people who don’t like that I talked trash about what they like while hiding their attacks behind the “free speech” defense. Silly? Maybe. Paranoid? Definitely. Plausible? Probably.
