This thread needs a lot fewer character-loyalty inquisitions and more talk of potentially effective ways to stab people repeatedly while flipping and yodeling.
Me, I think Vega’s going to be good but not monstrous. He has long reach and decent damage, but his mixup seems limited compared to SF4 (unrewarding overhead/instant overhead, nerfed corpse hop and kara throw, walldive is still unsafe for neutral play), and his reversal options don’t look especially improved from SF4 (he does have access to alpha counter now, though, which is something, although it requires bar that could otherwise fuel his damage from EX Barcelona, etc.). He’ll be solid against characters that he can space out and counterpoke (or who have such piss-poor anti-air that they can’t handle his jump-ins), but he’ll struggle against characters that are actually equipped to get in and stay in on him (the better Tekken characters). The best solution to Vega still looks to me like RTSD. Knock him down, roll the dice, and be disrespectful. He has very little to scare you out of pressuring him at close range, and he will have to play fairly honestly to keep people away from him just like in SF4.
His main appeal to me in this game comes from his chain range and his safe-tag capacity. A good poke can turn into a launcher from a pretty decent range, potentially helping a teammate get in whose poking potential isn’t as good as Vega’s. EX RCF lasts a long time, is airtight (once it finally goes active, that is) and is presumably still neutral or very mildly negative on block, giving his partner a nice long time to finish his tag animation, protect Vega’s exit, and mount whatever pressure or mixup they can do while the EX RCF is being blocked. And of course on hit it leaves the opponent standing for a long time and has a very advantageous final hit, leaving plenty of time to recover from the tag, get a good ground series going, and conserve juggle states. He seems like a functional but not ideal combo ender as well; EX Barcelona is a given, but he also has new launch options from Scarlet Terror and df+HK to help build and conserve meter. His mixup can also gain a little bit of teeth from a long-lasting tag cancel with low, overhead, and instant overhead options (even if his low options appear to have the best options by far; it’s very difficult to conceive of getting anything but a guard break from instant overhead j. HP).
If anything, top-tier Vega would be a return to Vega’s natural state. There are way more instances of him being powerful and cheesy than there are of him being the relatively technical lower-mid character he was in SF4. But I seriously doubt he’ll make it that far up the SFxT pecking order without either a REALLY cheesy walldive vortex (see: ST Vega) or a custom combo mode (see: Alpha 3, CvS2). He’s solid, but lacks the OVERWHELMING gimmicks (constant momentum from stupid walldives, or ridiculous damage conversion from CCs) that have typically characterized top-tier Vega.
Vega makes all the Spanish bitches wet their panties…even some of the guys. o_O Of course they’d add him to SF x T -____-
JK I was honestly scared they wouldn’t add Vega because of his fighting style, which didn’t seem to sync with this game at first, but he’s in. Can’t wait.
I dont know why most people bitch if everyone plays Vega. You like him? good, play him. Even if they talk shit about you picking tops, if you win a tournament they have to deal with it.
Viscant said that Vega was pretty good in this game yesterday on Box. So I’m expecting a lot of people playing him, kinda sucky that most of those people never thought about touching him in SF4. It’s a pride thing.
I was watching the latest Cross Over, the one going over Gems. I’m thinking a good set for Vega would be a speed+meter to compliment his footsies and mobility. Then for myself I’ll probably put auto throw tech or block because I suck at defense.
yo OP, update the front page with some stuff will ya?
so what do we know about SFxT Vega so far?
-Karathrow does not work.
-c.MP~c.FP looks like it’ll be a great punisher/poke, however its apparently unsafe as fuck…
-c.MPxx ST c.MP xx ST works, no one tested if you do more AFAIK.
-CH is considerably faster but whiffs on crouchers now
-EX SHC no longer goes through fireballs, however it sends the opponent into a juggle state.
-EX FBA> izuna does pathetic damage due to scaling, the better option is to do EX FBA>slash as it sends the opponent into a juggle state, looks very timing/spacing dependent.
-EX Roll> c.MP~c.HP xx EX Roll loop works for as long as you have meter.
-HP Roll is jab punishable now.
-Slide is apparently much safer? dunno the details about this.
-apparently CH has infinite juggle potential, as long as you get them high enough and space/time it right you can do the same nonsense as King with his Knees.
-EX FBA>izuna doesnt work in the corner, either that or its hard to do.
-BHC knee follow up isnt v.2012 status, it drops a fair amount from I what i saw, especially in the corner.
I probably missed a point or two but that should be most of the main points. if anyone has any additons/corrections/etc feel free to share.
I have no idea how multiple hits work in this juggle system, especially not multi-hit launchers, but he only juggled with 4 moves after Scarlet Terror, he might be able to add a heavy or something before the super?
Vega was my favorite sf2 character, mained him from vanilla sf4 to 2012 edition. Almost decided not to use him in this game due to possible over saturation of the character, but I’ll probably have him and Steve Fox on my team. I better not catch any flack from the Vega community, just because I never post on this forum! That said, Clockwork’s Vega combo looked pretty dope.
screw that noise and your character loyalty. if someone chooses vega because he gets the job done thats fine. this shit isn’t about picking your personal avatar, it’s about picking the right tool for what your trying to accomplish, i.e. winning.
Finally someone at least attempted to flame me, I must admit I was getting a little concerned. TBH though that was a bit underwhelming…I expected much more name-calling and insults thrown at me (at least replace 'screw ’ with ‘fuck’), but that’ll have to do for now.
Rejoice band-wagoners, you now officially have a knight-in-shining-armor. Though take care to bathe if you all gather in one room; it’ll reek to high heaven of Yun’s genitalia if you don’t. Keep that armor and those training wheels shiny.
Honest question, do you feel you ‘like’ Vega more than someone who wants to play him because he’s ‘considered’ strong?
After you answer that, ask your self why it matters that someone wants to play a character because they are ‘considered’ strong?
Does it effect you in any way, no, then why bash people because of a feeling YOU have.
Last question, are you afraid of being ridiculed for playing a strong character?
My guess is yes and that is the only reason you are bashing people.
I could also chalk it up to the hipster syndrome, Vega wasn’t popular, now he’s getting love and that makes you angry because he used to be “underground”.
Aside from all of that,
Why isn’t anyone posting up cellphone videos and stuff yet?
Ok I heard Seth say that light attack can juggle only twice.
Some only say a minimum of 4
Light attacks allow 2
Medium attacks allow 2
Heavy attack allow 3
Specials attack allow 4
super and ex attacks allow infinite hits
Here is an example click on the spoiler to see the video #1. @ 15:24 after the bound( ground bounce) this is technically a juggle state. he gets four normals and 1 special. #2 @ 17:57 after the first flip kick he is considered in a juggle state. He connects 2 mediums and 4 specials(well three because his :hk: flip hits twice if you want it to)

lets do the count for vega.
After the flip kick he is in a juggle state
comic heel
ex flying bercolona attack??? lol sorry not a vega player( if the follow up doesn’t count as a separate attack the juggle count will be at 2. So yea he could of followed up with something else
slide is a lot better having an alpha counter helps a lot.
i’m gonna use vega in this game because hes good. all you sf4 vega players crying about bandwagoning needs to stfu. i used him in st, hdr and cvs2, you know, when hes actually good.
