There is a frame data thread here. Or download one of the free apps. One of those apps has incorrect data for specials moves, but the thread here is accurate.
I used to always start clawless too, but now I only do so for certain matchups where I absolutely need to mash on LK-c.LP-LP roll to get out of situations, like Laura and Rashid. But that MP slash is so goddamn good.
Just wanted to say, I grinded Vega’s optimum CC and counterhit combos for all of yesterday and today and holy fuck, the difference in my game has been nuts. No longer worried about trying to land HP - ASE xx CA and wasting so much damage potential. Setting up meaty counterhit HPs (claw and bare fist) or getting max damage CC punishes from blocking Chun’s EX SBK or a DP with 500+ stun means you win in like, 2 major guesses. Finally hit 5k LP thanks to you guys.
the lp and ex command throws have amazing range and almost make up for his kara throw that he had in SFIV. The only issue is Vega walks backwards so fast that sometimes you will be in range, then walk out of it while doing the input. You have to learn how to just frame the input. Vega’s command makes you switch sides with your opponent and of course, command throws are untechable. They all have a 6 frame startup too, so use it carefully.
Just go into training mode and experiment with that. St. hp claw off has the potential to lead to over 380 damage.
@kensanity check the tech boards, I listed tons of counterhit setups and potential frame traps. Theres tons of other info in there too.
@nappydude you can walk up grab, walk up command grab, cr.5hp clawless(nice frame trap beats 3 frame normals) but I think you’re at a distance so you might not get an easy combo. You are +2 so just check out the frame data and get creative.
@“Arlieth Tralare” What you mean 5k lp? You mean on a normal hit? Or a CC?
You have a huge window of time to line up your fingers for a perfect double tap on the cr. Mk after claw switch. Try it. You pretty much can’t miss the link if you do it correctly.
@“Time Mage” You were talking about cr.mp after SC right? Cause i’m pretty sure you can’t link cr.mk on a (claw)st.hp SC unless it was a counterhit. **edit nm I see you were talking about a counterhit.
Honestly, all these links are pretty easy. You just have to get a decent feel on when the buffer window opens up, and you don’t even need to double tap most of the time.
Oh, believe me, I’ve been playing SF for 20+ years now, but my execution has never been good. SFV makes things much easier, so I land that CH st.HPxxSC, cr.MK often… Just not as consistently as I’d like. Things like that and my old man reflexes (which I already had when I was 15, haha) hinder me quite a bit, but, eh, while I’ll never win a major, I compete and compensate with decent footsies and knowledge.
Edit: all the help is truly appreciated, and welcome, of course.
There are two instances where I fish for counterhit fairly consistently:
1: Winning an air-air battle
2: after LK Crimson Terror crossup/corpsehop
If I try to fish for it on their wakeup after a straight knockdown, it usually won’t work. A shimmy might help set it up but the range is going to be strict due to you having to be out of throw range and because characters have varying throw ranges.
How should I be looking for crush counters? Do I just throw out st.HK or claw on-f.HP at random trying to catch the opponent, or should I try trapping the opponent somehow?
