thats what i meant.
Should I try to plink c.lp c.lp c.lp c.lp c.mp? I’m trying to right now and it feels like it’s just complicating the links more than anything. This is literally some of the first linking I’ve ever tried to do in video games (unless you count some of Tekken 4’s just frame moves). If I wanted to plink it it would be c.lp~mp c.lp~mp c.lp~mp c.lp~mp c.mp~hp, right?
One great thing that there was (at least for the Tekken 4 just frames) was a recording of the move, with hands, and with a microphone by the controller. So that way you could hear the timing of the presses.
Vega’s Kara throw, I struggle with this like crazy. How do I go about doing it?
Get an arcade stick, that’s how you do it. XD
Press HK and LP+LK at almost the same time, but with the HK REALLY shortly before. I’m talking like, 1-3 frames into the HK, so it’s almost like pressing it at the same time.
You can’t plink cLP’s because cLP has the lowest priority as far as button-presses go. So when you go lp~mp, you’ll end up with an mp instead. You really just have to double-tap it. And personally, I like double-tapping better anyway, but that’s just my opinion.
Laxlight asked me the same question a few months ago.
That was basically our little discussion. Hope it helps. You also might wanna take a look at the . You will quickly see that it’s not the same game (it’s 3s), but the timing is identical.
Having the same button setup helps me understand that a lot more, Thanks Sasaki and to you too Raqui.
I always pick up my mask even if it costs me the match and even if I know it will cost me the match. There is nothing that upsets me (except for lag, and control malfunction) more than getting penalized for utilizing proper defense, such as BLOCKING and FOCUSING and TECHING especially considering how beyond garbage Vega’s defense options are in the first place, and when nobody else in the game gets penalized for it.
It also upsets me the fact that as I am losing I get a 25% health reduction to help the other player, for FREE when it happens to no one else! What if Sagat lost his eye patch and got 25% health off, if Ryu lost his bandana, El Fuerte losing his mask, and so on to include every character? Then MAYBE I could put up with this BS. But its funny how the lowest tier gets this penalty cause otherwise he would be too good? WTF capcom!
I feel just like Vega does when his mask falls off! I just go into a rage and pick it up while making a bunch of mistakes. Even if the opponent was going to die if I didn’t pick it up I will still rush to pick it up… sometimes. This is one of the major flaws in my game. Same thing applies to my claw. I can’t function without my equipment. I start the match with it on, it deserves to stay on.
A little exercise I like to do is go into training mode and try to close the entire stage’s distance with kara throws and start over when you miss one.
Oh, what’s double tapping? I’ve just been trying to learn when to press the buttons.
Anyone have any tips for footsies specifically for vega. i’ve read the Sonic hurricane articles but so far trying that stuff isnt workin out too well lol
What situation did it not work in? And what did you do in the first place? haha.
If you read the part about step kicks, then you can apply Vega’s dfHK to that move, which is actually something Makoto does REALLY well.
Vega’s cMK isn’t very fast, so you can’t use it in the way they explain with Ryu. You can use cMP with Vega instead, to punish whiffed normals like cMK though, which is something I do pretty easily.
So, for example, you’re playing footsie, and you dodge in and out of his cMK range (Vega’s fast walk speed ftw), he throws out a cMK to whiff, with Ryu, you would counter with cMK, and if you have meter, follow through with hadouken FADC cHPxxShoryu. That same situation with Vega, you would instead do cMP into… nothing, because you don’t have charge and opponent is too far for continued links. Something’s better than nothing.
ok i’ll use that for an example. So there’s this viper that pwns me every time. i try to walk in and out of his c.MK range and he’ll just sit there (1 outcome he did last night). So i try to bait out something with c.MK and i get nailed with TK got knocked down. got mixed up like cookie dough then hit into the corner and round over. i mean literally 1 mistake cost me full health bar (and i blocked a shitload). so i try again next match. this time i stay outta tk range and try to bait that. EX seismo into burn kick, i’m knocked down into corner and it’s game over already. he tells me i should be playing footsies with him because viper’s footsies suck… but that shit is risky as hell. i’ll record our next match and post it. maybe that’ll help find my flaws.
looks like you need more cr.lp, kara throw, and st.lk, those are great pokes fast and limk to good damage. just two cents though because it like
a) he is playing the reaction game
b) you are a bit predictable when going for a poke because you may be using it at the same distance all the time…
Your first mistake (and only mistake, probably) was using cMK to bait. Vega’s cMK and Ryu’s cMK are completely different. Plus cMK is the PUNISHABLE one, even as Ryu.
To bait, Ryu would use cLK, bait a cMK (or something else), and then punish THAT cMK that the opponent does.
So you want to bait with cLK and cLP.
Something Makoto does is, walk forward, walk backwards, and then dfHK to preemptive punish a sweep or forward if it comes out.
Note that not all characters footsie the same way.
Vega’s best footsie tools are cMP to punish whiffed normals, sHP as a far poke to punish slower stuff and to keep your opponent honest as a whole (not sMK because it extends your hitbox and you can get SWEEPED), and the dfHK to go over low normals and do the better damage that you can’t do with a cMK or cMP.
yeah so i finally decided to use this arcade stick i won at this local tourney, and well that shit is annoying me. When i try to do the special moves they don’t come out. sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. I did some testing and to do ST you have to hold down back, foward, then punch. Is this how you are supposed to do it? Is there another way, because on pad you can do it downback, foward+punch. and for combo’s when i try to do cr.lp - cr. mp xx lp.rcf, I get cr.lp - cr.mp xx mp.rcf. and im mashing the shit out of lp yet mp version comes out. WTH am i doing wrong.
@Pedoviejo- That happens to me all the time and it is very annoying.I believe its a mechanic that the game has in that if you input a motion practically at the same time but a little after the button you press, it will cancel into that move. For example if I press hard punch ONLY once and qcf like at the same time with Akuma it will do his hard punch AND a hadoken afterwards. With Vega its pretty annoying as sometimes I get mp SHC instead of my Exfba when I try to use it after a cr MP.
I’ve died so many times from that happening and I was always wondering what in the hell went wrong. Anyway Pendo, what stick is it? I’ve had some unfavorable things happen due to inferior parts in the past and I’d think it was me and my execution (sometimes it is) when it wasn’t.
marvel vs capcom 2 tourney edition arcade stick.
(fixed)
you’re dealing with negetive edge. that happens to me even on pad. you gotta slam that mp down and let go immidiately before you press up or it’ll register it as an imput even though you’re releasing the button. other than that… I’ma stick with pad.
WTF that shit is stupid. sigh. But i dont get that in HDR. Wierd. oh well got to get my ass handed to me a couple of times, before i get the hang of it. I should really stick to pad, but not everyone has a 360.
