Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I wasn t far, i was point blank and the move does not miss on balrog like it would on a shoto, it was done right after a jump in hard kick, and it is the knee that hit, then i ate the ultra before the tibia strike, when the move hits only once it goes straight to tibia strike and skip the knee strike.

i thought like you before and what you said that is the exact thing i would have answered to somone coming with this story yesterday, but this morning, i saw that and know i am not so sure about the combo system. maybee it only concerns a few moves including vega st.:hk:, maybee a 0 frame gap is enough to start an invincible move, maybee it is balrog ultra that has a glitch, i don’t know what is behind this event, but i can assure you the st.:hk: was done point blank…

Were you using anything to buffer the Ultra? If so you might have hit Rog with a counter hit that may have knocked him further back. Other than that, I don’t know. Chalk it up to bot shenanigans.

technically no i was charging just doing down back and not pressing anything else before doing the ultra. I tend to be inclined to this explanation of a bot glitch, or a millisecond glitch in the combo system, maybee both.

It is very unlikely i can ever reproduce the situation anyway, and probably not against a human,
I dont know that many balrog players stupid enough to waste there charge at this exact moment, they would either do it just before to try punish a missed link after the jump in or after to punish a risky follow-up after the full st.:hk: anymation,or better wait to option select juggle it after headbutt first…

maybee i could try with a srk instead. maybee i could send a mail to that guy making the front page TACVideos to see what he thinks about that.

I’m a fairly new Vega user. Just started taking the game seriously. Got in about 140 matches with about a 65 win %. Was wondering a few minor things, does Vega have any karas other than the HK? What use is his claw throw? Is it anything more than a taunt? And are there any projectiles that a EX flying claw does not go through?

What characters is Vega weak against? I use Vega everytime and will continue to do so but I’d be more passive against fighters he is weak against.

Thanks Vegas

Depends sometimes on your comfort of playing. Some people can find character such as Sagat difficult, I find him easy. Some people find Ken easy, I find him solid as hell.
From looking at what I’ve seen I can safely say your top 3 are:
Blanka
Balrog
Chun Li.

I figured Blanka, Chun Li and Balrog. Ken isn’t too tough, but then again maybe I haven’t played any tough ones yet though. Sagat also is not SO tough. Guile and Chun Li are my toughest foes. Any tips on what to do and what to avoid against them?

Rufus should be higher than Chun, imo.

I haven’t came across too many Rufus’ in my short stint as a Vega. I’m just trying to get down the basics. I’m more of a counter puncher, passive turtle technique type. That schema seems to fail me against Chun Li though.

Rufus can be a bitch just on pure fact of his damage and he can keep you VERY pressured.

Sounds like you should be playing Honda/Balrog instead of Vega, tbh. Turtling doesn’t work too well for a character with relatively limited defensive options.

“EX-Wall Dive off the wall doesn’t go through opponent anymore”

Can anyone please explain for me what exactly it means?? can someone show me how it’s possible now on SFIV and not on SSFIV

EX Sky high claw. It doesn’t go through on impact anymore.

Confirm vega ultra launch opponent in the air now

It’s really amazing.

:db::r::l::r: vega ultra 2 charge DB, F, B, F (KICK I THINK)

:crybaby:No more going through Hadokens with EX sky high claw?:crybaby:

I’m only turteling because my offensive game is pretty limited besides the basic combos with specials. I just really haven’t been able to chain up any good strikes and mix ups. Still trying to find a way to integrate his kara into my arsenal too. I don’t really like to turtle but i’m just taking it slow until I get better. Does anyone reccomend a certain style for Vega? And how do you gauge his defensive options?..sorry i’m a noob :bluu:

His defensive options blow. Basically, learn how to block, block crossups, and tech throws. Learn about option select (crouch) teching if you haven’t already. Learn good ways to avoid jump ins and pressure (air throw, neutral j rh, fadc). Vega’s backdash is awesome. DO NOT rely on his kkk or ppp backflips or use them as a crutch. As you fight better players your backflips are predictable and will lose you matches. Same goes for walldives, good players will punish you hard if you aren’t on point with your izuna drops.

In a way, you are doing yourself a favor by picking claw as your first character in SF4 because you won’t be spoiled by how easy other characters have it. You will have to learn proper defense and zoning, and think before attacking. I swear by maining Vega since SF4 came out, my understanding of the game and my defensive skill have improved greatly. Spacing and knowing your normals are key with Vega. You can’t mash things out and he has practically no reliable blocktrings for applying pressure. Jabs are 1 fr links so get used to people mashing out BS reversals. Understand the type of person you are playing and adapt accordingly.

You are right to incorporate his kara throw, it’s one of the best in the game and can seriously mess with people. As for a style, people play different ways and you need to adapt to that. Be careful of turtling because you don’t want to be caught in pressure face to face as Vega. Hit and run, dance around and use your range to your advantage, try to draw out mistakes and punish them. If you get someone in a corner, don’t run away. You can apply alot of pressure with pokes, airthrow, karathrow etc.

Just learn the basics and get comfortable with his pokes, Cosmic Heel, and his bnb combos and the rest will come with time and experience.

Yeah I noticed poking and knock downs cause alot of air throws. Especially in the corner. But the way you described it is basically what i’m trying to achieve. Alot of dancing and countering. Although I do tend to crutch on the ppp and kkk at times. I need to cut that out. Any good combos after his DF HK? Besides the vanilla slide >_<

Also, what is a psychic DP?
