Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Indeed.
Guys, I’m taking a little break from this game to play T6!!!

Noooo, not you!
Now all we have are a bunch of lazy bums (myself included). ;_;

Dont worry, we could do something as long as you and jozhear stay here…

btw, can somebody explain to me that “new trap” that you guys are talking about… the barcelona one?

Is it consistent? or is it just a “so-so gimmick, for the not so smart against vega” ?

I think they knock the opponent down, and then try for a meaty Izuna Drop? I don’t personally like it.

i’ll be here til i die
or i am so overwhelmingly injured that i can no longer play SF

The izuna drop trap is an death spiral that is nigh-impossible to escape without very precise backdash skill

Sagat can do nothing about constant izuna drops, it is your saving grace in this matchup in particular

explanations? or vids?

i saw this thread that talks about it… ill be there…

Pls do tell. This sounds like the old vega from cvs2, he had a similar trap.

I don’t see us having time to make a vid before Thursday
basically, you knock somebody down preferably close to a solid wall so you don’t get wall bugged. Has to be a hard knockdown too, sweep preferably… or an izuna drop. Then you do the wall jump so that as they recover, you are already maneuvering towards their head.

  • if they shoryu, you will go behind them and grab them
  • since they are waking up, they don’t have time to use a normal AA
  • since they are waking up, they can’t do a jump up or jump back air-to-air
  • if they mash ultra, you end up behind them for the punish
  • if they use EX shoryu, your throw whiffs but they have no opportunity to FADC and you punish the whiff with whatever you want
  • since it is ambiguous as hell and you cross them up like three times in a tenth of a second, if they try and dash… a) the dash doesn’t come out, b) they get a forward dash (throw lands), c) they get a back dash too early (throw lands), d) they get the back dash except it is nigh impossible to use your 8 frame invincibility to avoid the throw and you will frequently get thrown out of your back dash

I have some ideas about character specific ways to avoid the trap but I think at this point is is safe to assume not many people will know how to get out of this trap. Sagat especially has a tough time getting out of it because his huge height makes izuna easier to land and gives him less time to try and figure out his way out. Stuff like roundhouse tiger knee will get him out, but this is a timing issue on Vega’s part

Izuna drop is an incredibly sick move if you can land it all the time.

^ yo it doesn’t have to be hard knockdown. You can get an even smaller grab window going if you ST, they tech, and you’re already in the air coming down with your izuna. Obviously though you won’t really find much time for ST if you’re focusing on izuna, but that’s why I emphasize the importance of landing ST’s, because if you land ST’s, doors open that you let you land LOTS MORE SHIT. Basically you land an ST in one way, they tech their recovery and if you did your FBA as soon as you land from the ST, then the timing is really tight but you can grab someone literally the second they are ready to “get grabbed”.

Is this a recent development? Could we possibly see Vega rise in the tiers because of this? The Sagat matchup change?

Please tell me it works on ****** Blanka.

don’t think it works well on blanka or i haven’t been doing to properly hes got retarded hitboxes on everything, ive been stopped from doing it by ball, electricity(he can be grabbed out of this but its crazy hard), not sure but he might be able to coward or his stupid invincible back hop out

I don’t post often, but I’m in Japan right now and I use Vega.

I use Izuna a lot, just to see how different people react to it. The Izuna chains works very well against Sagat, and against players who don’t know how to play against Vega. I find it kind of gimmicky.

Against Ryu, I’ve played against people who can execute deep Shoryukens every time, to the point where I don’t find it safe. The fact that they wait until the last moment means that it doesn’t matter which side you land on. Of course, we have all grabbed Shoryuken’s before with Izuna, but that is because the opponent is mashing it out, and it comes out too early.

I don’t use Izuna against Zangief… You can poke him to death. Honestly. Fierce and roundhouse all day. Sweep lariat. Knock him down, and when he gets up, jump back fierce. ALL DAY. Izuna = Danger

**Blanka **pretty much destroys Vega’s Izuna every time. You have to play a different game against Blanka. Don’t forget you can punish his balls with ultra.

Also, many players here in Japan obviously Focus-dash my Izuna. I know it has been mentioned before, but it IS possible to Izuna an opponent who is focusing. The timing is just so strange and I have not learned it yet.

Thanks for all the advice in these forums guys - Keep Vega alive!

I don’t know if its the timing or the hit box. It seems like when ever they focus you have to land the Izuna far behind them, like your totally gonna whiff but somehow you don’t and the izuna comes out. It’s more like the cvs2 izuna drop where you have to be almost parallel to the opponent to land it.

Cammy, Gouken, Sagat, Abel, Gief and possibly more (but these are the ones i got actual real life competition level opponents that arent Ryu and Akuma) get completely raped by izuna traps.
Sagat + corner + izuna trap = GG

Hmm I’m guessing the hit box gets out of whack, but I honestly don’t know.

I’ll try your method later on this week.

And yeah, I agree. Sagat in the corner = game over Sagat!

I just want to get this down to a science. I don’t have the game to practice it on, but if someone does, please try over and over to Izuna your opponent who is Focusing, and figure out what is going on.

It depends on who your up against. Diff Focus’ have different animations. some stay put, some lean back, some go down. You have to adjust your timing and angle for each person. Until you figure it out I would try to go behind them more than in front to save yourself from getting crumple from the FA, at least you’ll make them work for that “free” damage.

THANKS…

I LOVE YOU! :lovin:
