Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

lol no way man.

I feel kinda dumb asking this, but i don’t remember if its been tried awhile ago or not. Cross up ex wall dives? Is it possible to cross someone up as you jump to the wall as they are getting up? Kind of like how blankas ball, sagats TK, and fireballs(at least i think i’ve been crossed up with them before) can?

I think I know what you are talking about. And I’ve tried it plenty of times with a 0% success rate…

I think that you can only use this on Sagat, or was that Bloody High Claw cross up? Hmm…

Yes
It works on Sagat, Rufus, Abel, and Balrog as far as I’ve tested
probably will work on Chun li, Cammy, and Zangief, probably a couple more characters.

The timing is very hard but it’s a devastating technique. What i do is land an izuna drop or a sweep, (if it’s an izuna drop I’ll use my sweep just to close the distance as they’re on the ground) then you use the EX wall dive as you think they are standing up. You’ll know when you cross them up as it looks like Vega is in their back.

I can vouch for this, I tested it using quickstand in training mode - and its’ quite devastating, I may make a video on it.

Cool, I guess I was trying on harder characters. Would be a pretty sick guaranteed win when you knock em down and their health is low. Or potentially 4 guaranteed ex Iz Drops in a row

I guess the best way to know if it worked would be to have the cpu block and watch what side it blocks on? Or just watch which way the body is facing when it pops up. Please someone get a vid up of it. I want to see the timing for when to execute it and if the distance matters.

I second this, and can we see a vid of the izuna trap?

But I’m guessing a cross-up ex-wall dive is only 1 hit instead of the normal 2 from the front? If so, is it worth it?

Edit: Oh, I guess if it’s just 1 hit and it’s enough to KO the opponent, of course. :stuck_out_tongue:

EX Barcelona, not Sky High claw

It picks them up as it normally would and you can combo into the grab as you normally would

O_O… evil… I never thought of that. Shall try it tonight when I get home! Haha. Thanks for correcting me.

Me and Rugalitarian were having Sagat vs Vega matches so we could record them and upload them for you guys. 14 matches later, this is our result.

[10:17] Gattsu456: WE’RE THE WORST

That crossup dive happened lots of times against Bison, Sagat and Zangief when I was defending with cr.mp EX Dive. It looks pretty strange and I don’t know how to pull it off consistently.

Maybe you can buffer a move in the game that, after a sweep or throw gets you that crossup barcelona every time.
E.g I knock the opponent down, do a cr.hp, then immediately do an ex-dive, and everytime I do it, it’s a crossup?
It’s situation dependent, isn’t it?

Good idea, I might give that a try later. I tried on sagat a few times and would clearly be touching his body on the wall dive, but it would make no actual contact. I can pause it and see that I am literally inside of him (no homo), and still nothing. Maybe I should practice with blanka until I figure out when you can actually hit them.

This is funny!! Appreciate the thought though. Maybe next time you both record at the same time. Then we get to learn what’s this whole izuna trap is all about.

P/S: Just quickly, any recommendation what USB adapter thingy to use for recording matches? Too lazy to figure out from the Tech thread (i’m guessing this info is there). <ok, me go run to the corner, hide with arms over head but claw sticking out>

Just to follow up:

Here is a quick Izuna Trap video I made. This is against Sagat in training mode, set to the hardest setting and action is set to “CPU”.

I find that after pushing off the wall, if I move away from my opponent slightly, then quickly come back towards him, it helps me to time the trap as well as line up for the grab. Another thing you will notice is that Sagat quickly changes the direction he is facing as I set the trap. Against a Bison player online, I had done two Izuna Drops in a row, on the third one he hit his Ultra out of desperation but it came out right as he was facing the wall so in effect it crossed him up. I was then able to calmly land behind him, charge my Ultra and hit it. Just some food for thought.

I still need to do more testing on this. A few nights ago, I did have a streak of 3 izuna drops on a Sagat, but I can’t really tell if I actually did the trap correctly? Or if I was just lucky. I did it in midscreen too.

Then I also tried it on a Ken, and this one was interesting. I dropped him twice, and the 2nd time, the dp flame came out but I still grabbed him. It was really quick but I definitely saw the flame.

Also, I know I certainly did not consciously try to cross the opponent up 3 times during the trap. I basically just did my best to execute the vanilla izuna drop, line up the shoulders etc.

So question. If we do the trap correctly, are we suppose to be able to see say Ken’s dp flame at all? Because from MidKnight_'s video, it sure seems like Sagat just couldn’t do anything and no animation came out at all, which was what it looked like to me on my match with Sagat also.

hey everyone, im back again, ive been around the local scene in chitown and ive grown so much as a player its not even funny. I picked up a ps3 and am looking for players who want to lab shit with vega in any of his matchups. my psn id is jarekov and i look forward to reconnecting with this awesome community.

Hey Vega players, I have a question.
Why do people use st.rh instead of st.mk from far away?
st.mk has more range than st.rh and they both due to same damage.
I’m assuming RH has more priority and works better against characters that abuse Super Armor, but I was just wondering what you guys thought

The more startup animation you see from a dp while dropping, the earlier he did it. This basically means that it’s very good if you see the dp come out, cause that’s a guaranteed drop most of the time. However, if you don’t see it it means he did it deep. If he does it too deep he should be able to hit you out of the Izuna.

Far st. is used when you predict an opponents jumpin. It’s good to throw it out once in a while, comes out fast, and your opponents jump will be denied by the strange hitbox.
You can basically use it as an AA before and after he jumps, that’s why it’s pretty solid.

Jarekov! My old friend… It’s nice to have you back again. Make sure to post some new matchup info you gathered in the new matchup discussion and look at some of the stuff we found and have done here!
